Two amazing wines from Spain. Rippa Dorii "Los Curas" Verdejo and "Solomon" Tempranillo. Absolutely must have for your collection. Los Curas is a very old single vineyard planted to Verdejo which used to be owned by the Arch Priesthood of Medina. The soil is predominantly chalk, sand and smooth stones. The wine shows a distinctive acidity with hints of salinity as well. The mouth feel is big and rich and tends to linger. Aging is no problem for this white. Solomon vineyard is located within the Duero basin and is heavily influenced by the Riaza river which helps to mitigate the harsh winters and softens the short, yet hot and brutal summer heat. Deep purple in color, the wine is almost opaque in the glass. Blackberries and plums are the most prevalent fruit characters with a noticeable and gorgeous secondary profile of tobacco leaf and incense. I recommend starting with the Los Curas during sunset and finishing around the fire with the Solomon. Swing by and grab them before they are gone.
