Maighstir is born from a collaboration between Kentucky Owl® Master Blender, John Rhea and Scotch Whisky Master Blender, Maureen Robinson. Maighstir (pronounced May-stir) is a traditional Gaelic word meaning "Master".

Kentucky Owl® Maighstir Edition has been awarded 96 points by Tasting Panel magazine.

50% ABV- 100 Proof
Nose - There is a sweet sense of small grains particularly the malted barley, with a hint of sweet caramel. The balance of the small grains (wheat and barley) with the hint of sweet caramel/vanilla, gives the immediate sensation and question in your mind; is this a great bourbon, or is this a great Scotch? Honestly, smelling it will make you feel like you are in a Scotch Whisky warehouse.
Palate - Initially there is sense of warm spicy sweetness from the rye that you might expect from a great bourbon, but then the combination and soft tones from the wheat and barley give a pleasant calming warmness to the tongue. As it melts in the mouth the essence of orange and grapefruit linger behind the soft velvety feel in the mouth.
Finish - In the throat, the soft caramel/vanilla reappears and trails away with a long soft pleasant finish.

Luca Paretti is produced at Serena Winery in the Treviso Province. Treviso is the cultural and wine capital of Italy’s prosecco region. Serena winery has been family run since its founding in 1881. The winery maintains Denominazione di Origine Controllata (DOC) standards. The Serena winemaker is Ermes Busetto who has over 30 years of winemaking experience.
Luca Paretti Brut appears soft yellow with lime green hues and fine bubbles that produce understated aromas of green apple and peach with floral notes. It has a soft, but fresh, acidity on the mouth and the hint of fruit is delightfully pleasurable for those who enjoy exotic fruit on the palate.

Edition No. 3 – Jordan Salcito
In this third edition, Sean revisited his wine roots with Jordan Salcito, our 2024 collaborator. Jordan is an internationally renowned sommelier with a storied career in the wine world and at leading restaurants including Restaurant Daniel, Eleven Madison Park, and Momofuku where her wine list was named the “Most Original Wine List in the World” by World of Fine Wine Magazine. In 2016, she founded Drink RAMONA, a family of award-winning Italian spritzes.

She bonded with Sean Josephs over their shared love of wine and backgrounds as sommeliers. Together, they blended this extraordinary Australian whisky from four distinct styles of Starward Australian Single Malt, which had been exclusively aged in red wine barrels, further bridging the worlds of wine and whiskey.
