Our family's business Cos Cob Liquor, LLC in the Cos Cob Commons shopping center will be closing its doors for the last time in December. We have owned Cos Cob Liquor for thirty-eight years. It has been a staple of the Cos Cob community since the store first opened at the end of Prohibition in 1933.

We will finally be retiring in a month's time due to our progressing age. For several years, we tried to sell our business with multiple buyers under contract but sadly we were unable to do so. It goes without saying that we would have much preferred for our extremely busy business to remain operational with a new owner and jobs for our employees but unfortunately that was not possible for our family.

We are thankful to our loyal and hard-working employees Mark, Mario and Diego who have worked with us for a combined total of over 40 years. Each will go on to have a successful career after Cos Cob Liquor's closing and we wish Mark, Mario and Diego well.

We, at Cos Cob Liquor, have thoroughly enjoyed serving our community for thirty-eight years and are saddened to announce we are closing. Our family is grateful for the continued patronage of our customers throughout the years. Every dollar each customer spent at our mom-and-pop business helped put a roof over our head, food on our table and assisted with the education of our children, Bree and George IV. The loyalty exhibited by our customers has been heart-warming, especially during some of our most difficult times. Many of our customers have become like family to us and we will miss interacting with them on a regular basis. Although our doors are closing, our gratitude is never-ending.

Asking for prayers tonight. Since July 3, we have been attempting to obtain the correct and appropriate documentation from UBP (Urstadt Biddle Properties located in Greenwich and listed on the New York Stock Exchange as UBA) for the current buyer of our family wine business. We have faced nothing but hurdles. This is not the first buyer of our business to have these problems. Biddle already has an interest in another tenant's liquor store in Fairfield Country. Please pray for us and UB Properties' employees that UB Properties will do the right thing. George wants to retire so that he can work full-time to obtain justice for his murdered son.

We are currently under contract to sell Cos Cob Liquors, LLC. Vithal Wine, LLC made up of Rohit "Rick" Modi, Jay Shah, Amish Shah and Mukesh "Mike" Shah contracted to purchase our business on June 28, 2019, applied for their liquor license and agreed to lease terms with our landlord UB Properties to take over our space here at Cos Cob Commons. The buyer is currently the owner of Greenwich Wine and Spirits and several A1 Cellars Wine & Spirits stores in Fairfield County.

We purchased Cos Cob Liquor in 1981 and are so grateful to our loyal customers that have stood the test of time with us for 38 years. Please join me in welcoming the members of the buyer Vithal Wine, LLC: Rohit "Rick" Modi, Jay Shah, Amish Shah and Mukesh "Mike" Shah.

George recently visited the Jack Daniel Distillery in Lynchburg, Tennessee where he toured the facility and had a tasting of five types of Jack Daniel's whiskey. He was very impressed with the distillery which still makes whiskey the way Jack Daniel did over 150 years ago. Our family's visit to Lynchburg included an amazing lunch at Jack Daniel's Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House restaurant, which uses Jack Daniel's whiskey in several of its lunch offerings.

What is the difference between moonshine and whiskey? (Hint: it involves aging.)

Why is Jack Daniel's whiskey "Tennessee" whiskey? (Hint: It is not because it is made in Tennessee!)
