A Dedicated Journey with Spinx

Greg Jones, Relief Manager, began his career at Spinx in 2013 as part of the Assistant General Manager (AGM) Training Program. His dedication and strong work ethic quickly propelled him into the General Manager (GM) role. His rapid promotion was a testament to his leadership, as he frequently stepped in to run stores when other GMs were on vacation or off duty when he was training as an AGM. After years of successfully managing stores, Greg transitioned into his current role as a Relief Manager.

Before joining Spinx, Greg had a tenure with Winn Dixie and then BI-LO until the company ceased operations. He chose to remain with Spinx because of its strong family-oriented culture. One moment that particularly stood out to him was when upper management attended his father’s funeral—a gesture that deeply resonated with him.

Greg has always admired Spinx’s leadership, especially founder Stewart Spinks and President and CEO Steve Spinks, whom he describes as approachable and genuine. Greg interacts with many people in his role, often mentoring and guiding others, which he finds incredibly rewarding.

A Teacher’s Journey to General Manager

Wendy Cox began her journey with Spinx while driving her 17-year-old daughter to work at the Simpsonville store. A full-time substitute teacher at the time, Wendy would often stop in for a fountain drink after dropping her daughter off. John Washington, the store’s General Manager, frequently praised Wendy’s daughter for her strong work ethic, attributing it to Wendy’s influence. He repeatedly encouraged Wendy to join the team, and though she initially declined, she eventually accepted a part-time role as a customer service representative. Wendy’s dedication and hard work soon led to rapid promotions, and today, she proudly serves as the General Manager of the brand-new Spinx Market and Eatery—a dream come true.

Having been with Spinx for five years, Wendy thrives in the company’s supportive culture, where teammates are valued and remembered. She fondly recalls how Founder Stewart Spinks recognized her by name after only one meeting. Wendy highlights Spinx’s commitment to its team members through programs like tuition reimbursement, the Teammate Assistance Fund, and career advancement opportunities.

A Decade of Growth and Leadership at Spinx

Lucia Myers, the General Manager of the new Inman, South Carolina Spinx store, recently celebrated a significant milestone—10 years with the company. Her journey with Spinx began through the Manager-in-Training program, which prepared her to step into the role of Assistant Manager.

Before joining Spinx, Lucia worked in convenience store management for a company that operated under a franchising model. While she appreciated certain aspects of that structure, she sought greater stability. Spinx's non-franchise model caught her attention, offering job security and clear growth opportunities.

Reflecting on her decision to join Spinx, Lucia emphasizes the development and support the company has provided her over the years. "Spinx is a great company to work for. It's all about its teammates," she shares. "The programs Spinx puts in place help its teammates succeed, and the company has a strong family-oriented culture."

While now happily married, Lucia spent the majority of her career at Spinx as a single mother of three. She credits the company with providing the financial stability she needed to support her family, including the opportunity to purchase a home. Lucia often shares her journey with prospective team members—particularly single mothers—to showcase Spinx's commitment to fostering both professional success and personal growth.

Ben Hoeksema's unconventional journey to Spinx

Ben Hoeksema's life took an unexpected turn when a random point on a map led him to Greenville, SC, where he eventually put down roots. After graduating college, he closed his eyes, picked a spot, and accepted a recruiting role at North Greenville University. Though he hoped to meet a Southern belle, he married the love of his life from Philadelphia, whom he met in Greenville.

Ben's best friend and roommate joined him within six months, and he now works at Spinx. Soon, Ben's family and friends followed, and today about 30 people from his circle call Greenville home.

Originally planning a career in higher education, Ben spotted Spinx's Manager in Training (MIT) program on LinkedIn, drawn by the growth potential. Seven years later, he's a Territory Manager at Spinx, where the company's genuine loyalty and commitment to teammates have kept him dedicated to the team.
