What a great surprise for the holidays, as just through the doors of your Greensboro Cigar Company arrives our final shipment for 2024 of Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's Encore Black!

Darker and bolder, the Godfather gives Cigar Aficionado's 2018 #1 Cigar of the Year Encore line an expansion. Encore Black features a dark Connecticut Broadleaf maduro wrapper, bound in Mexican San Andrés, with a filler blend of Nicaraguan to***cos from Condega, Estelí, and Jalapa.

“This blend really puts the spotlight on the Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper,” says cigarmaker Ernesto Perez-Carrillo, a member of the Cigar Aficionado Hall of Fame. “We’ve given it a lot of time—18 months of fermentation and then three years of aging—to bring out the rich flavors and complexity that is unique to Connecticut Broadleaf wrappers.”

Strength-wise, the cigar has been blended to be medium plus to full—stronger than the original medium -bodied Encore. Crafted in one size, 5 3/8 inches long by 52, and very limited in release.

It is with great honor that we announce today the arrival of Ernesto Perez-Carrillo's 15th Anniversary, the cigar commemorating 15 years of E.P Carillo Ci**rs!

I would be remiss if I did not begin first with the man himself.

What can be said about the iconic Ernesto Perez-Carrillo that has not already been said? The man behind the original non-Cuban La Gloria Cubana brand who brought us the Wavell and El Rico Habano. The Godfather of Boutique Ci**rs who gave birth to small batch artisanal cigar making. The man who pioneered the 60 ring gauge movement with the La Gloria Cubana Serie R. The man who helped put Miami's Little Havana on the cigar-making map with his El Credito fabrica on Calle Ocho. The man who created EPC Ci**rs with his inaugural release in 2009 and went on to create Cigar Aficionado's #1 Cigar Of The Year in 2018 with Encore, and again in 2020 with Pledge. Inducted into Cigar Aficionado's Hall of Fame in 2012, he has touched so many of us with his mastery of his craft, and has mentored many of the masters whose ci**rs have become fixtures in our humidors.

The E.P. Carrillo 15th Anniversary is a magnificent cigar to commemorate the occasion. At 6 1/2" x 54, this Gran Toro is crafted of an aged filler blend of Nicaraguan and Dominican, bound in a 15-year old binder leaf from the Jalapa Valley in Nicaragua, and finished in 10-year aged Mexican San Andres.

“This cigar represents our journey over the last 15 years,” said Ernesto Perez-Carrillo in an interview with Cigar Aficionado. “It reflects the challenges we've overcome, the progress we’ve made, and the passion we bring to every cigar we create. We wanted to craft something truly special to commemorate this milestone.”

Celebrating 25 years in 2025, this masterpiece of a cigar begins with Carlito Fuente sourcing the rarest vintages of Dominican to***cos from Chateau de la Fuente, then dresses the blend in the finest aged, dark, and oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrappers that have gone through an additional one year of aging in cognac barrels, creating medium to full-bodied perfection with well-balanced notes of dark chocolate, espresso bean, leather, and oak, all with lingering underlying sweetness. Also, in my humble opinion, the pre-light draw may be the best of any cigar made today. It smacks of pure chocolate and will have you enthralled before even firing it up.

For 2024, Tatuaje's Pete Johnson has presented us 2 different wrapper versions of this 6 3/4" x 44 Cazadores: one cloaked in Connecticut Broadleaf Rosado, the other in Tuxtla Mexican San Andrés, with both sporting the same Nicaraguan filler and binder combination from the farms of My Father and crafted at My Father Ci**rs, S.A. in Esteli, Nicaragua.
