RECAP: Hastings Scores Win Number Two Of The Year At River Cities

GRAND FORKS, ND. (June 24, 2021) – Jade Hastings and the SJS Racing team won their second feature of the year last Friday night at the River Cities Speedway in Grand Forks. The 15th win of his career with the NOSA Sprints also increased his point lead, as the team continues to defend their championship.

Hastings night started with the ninth-best lap in qualifying and a fifth-place run in his heat race, but both results were good enough to get him into the feature redraw, where he pulled the number four pill.

Starting fourth in the 25-lap main event, Hastings was running third at the time of the first caution on lap seven, and used that restart to take the lead as the race resumed.

Negotiating through lapped traffic proved to be little problem for Hastings, as he continued to lead until another caution with nine to go.

Hastings held off Austin Pierce after that caution, and the final caution with three laps left, continuing on to his second win of the season.

“Our car disagreed with the driver,” Hastings said about his start to the night. “We made it into the redraw and drew the four. Our car still wasn’t the best, but starting up front like that, it’s a lot easier cause you’re running next to the fast guys. We took the lead on that restart, and it was clear sailing from there. It was a very technical track, and I was tired after the race, which usually doesn’t happen there, but it feels good to get that second win.”

On tying Chris Shirek on the NOSA wins list with his 15th career win, Hastings said, “It means a lot, it’s awesome. I watched him from the time he started when I was a little kid. I know he’s a three-time champion, and being tied on any leaderboard with a three-time champion definitely means a lot.”

Hastings and the SJS Racing team will head back to River Cities on Friday night for the Greater Grand Forks Fair race, which will also be broadcast on Midco Sports Net. Hastings is excited for the race, saying “I’m really confident, I’m really ready to win some races. I think we can definitely go back-to-back. It’s not gonna be easy, but I think we have a good chance. I want to be at the race track, I want to be at the shop, and I really want to win races.”

Hastings becomes first NOSA driver to score top five at Huset's

GRAND FORKS, ND. (June 16, 2021) – The defending NOSA series champion Jade Hastings regained the point lead last weekend after scoring a pair of top fives at River Cities Speedway and Huset's Speedway.

Hastings started his weekend at River Cities on Friday night without a qualifying run, but battled back from starting in the ninth spot in his heat and charged up to fifth.

Rolling off 10th in the 25-lap main event, Hastings started his charge at the midway point of the race, passing three cars to move into the top five with 10 laps to go.

Hastings moved past Brendan Mullen and Jack Croaker in the closing laps to score a podium finish.

"There was a restart with 12 laps to go and I was able to find my rhythm, pick off some cars, and move up to third from eighth. All in all, it was a good finish with the race car we had,” said Hastings.

On Sunday, the SJS Racing team headed back to South Dakota to continue their title defense at the Huset's Speedway.

Hastings made the invert and started on the front row of his heat race. He showed his nose to race-long leader Wade Nygaard and stole the win with a last-lap pass.

Hastings redrew the four for the main event and fought for position with drivers like Brooke Tatnell, Matt Juhl, and Jody Rosenboom throughout the 25 lap race, eventually becoming the first NOSA regular to score a top five at the tricky three-eighths mile oval.

"The heat race was really fun," Hastings said. "It was a lot like my heat win a few weeks ago... I lost the lead and had to battle back. That last-lap pass was really fun. My car was amazing and it felt really good to get my first top-five out of the way at that race track."
