It’s Friday again! Bill has a great lineup for the tasting today 4-7 pm. 2021 William Hill Chardonnay, 2019 Argiano Toscana Rosso, 2020 Roma Rosso and for Bastille day a 2018 Chateau Borie de Noaillan Bordeaux. Thus is a great lineup for comparing different red wines. See you at the tasting table!

What does a 5th growth mean?
In 1855, Napoleon III decided he wanted the best wines of Bordeaux ranked for an expo in Paris he was planning. There were 58 wines that made the initial list, broken down in first growth or cru (the highest level) through fifth growth. Originally there were 58. Over the years the number has gone up and down due to consolidation, wineries closing, or because of France’s inheritance laws some were divided into two or more wineries. Currently there are 61 wineries from among the hundreds of wineries within Bordeaux (the classification only included those wineries on the Left Bank of the Gironde River). So even the fourth and fifth growth wines are among the highest quality wines in Bordeaux. Bottles of wine that are “classified” as of the five growths will have Grand Cru Classe en 1855”.

Finally!!! Our Old Elk Store Picked Single Barrel is in!

Nose and Tasting Notes: A nose of caramelized sugar, age oak, slight hint of black walnut. The heat us up front on the palate on the first taste. Silkier on the subsequent sips. Tastes of caramel, hint of vanilla and almond, with a bit of toast at the end. Finishes with a smooth coating of the tongue, easy finish down the throat, and then warms the chest at the end.

Our Story

Gino has also been around wine for 40 years! He and his wife Vicki regularly attend wine tastings in California and travel to Italy and Spain to explore wines in these countries. Future plans for the store include - hosting in store events and expanding wine tastings to the community at area condos and apartments as well as nearby corporate offices.

Franklin Wine and Spirits is located in the McKay's Mill neighborhood next to Publix.
