Back in stock from J.C. Newman Cigar Company, the Yagua.

Yagua is a recreation of a farm-rolled cigar that Lazaro Lopez, general manager of the J.C. Newman PENSA cigar factory in Nicaragua, remembers his grandfather making at his family’s to***co farm in Cuba in the 1940s. Over dinner in 2019, Lopez shared this story with Newman:

“At our family farm, my grandfather would take fresh to***co leaves from the curing barns and roll ci**rs without any molds or presses,” said Lopez. “In an attempt to give his ci**rs a traditional shape, he would tie a handful of them together using pieces of the Cuban royal palm tree, known as the yagua. When he was ready to enjoy his personal ci**rs, he untied the bundle. He loved how every cigar had its own unique shape. I still remember the rich aroma and taste of my grandfather’s ci**rs.”

Big Dave's Ci**rs has received the Las Calaveras Décimo Aniversario, a 6 x 52 toro that uses an Ecuadorian habano oscuro wrapper over a Nicaraguan binder and Nicaraguan fillers. All of the Nicaraguan to***co used in the blend was grown by the García family, who are the owners of My Father.

As the name implies—décimo aniversario is Spanish for tenth anniversary—the cigar is being made to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Las Calaveras, an annual limited edition from Crowned Heads that pays tribute to those close to the company’s personnel who have lost their lives.

Big Dave's seeing red!!

First came the Black, then the Blue, now, Micallef Ci**rs has added Red to its lineup.

The new Micallef Red consists of a Mexican San Andrés habano wrapper covering a Pennsylvania broadleaf binder grown in Nicaragua and a filler combination of to***cos from Mexico and Nicaragua.

The ADVentura Blue Eyed Jack’s Revenge has a blend that uses a Mexican San Andrés Colorado wrapper, a Dominican olor binder, and Dominican fillers, with the to***co having been aged for five years prior to rolling. The ci**rs are produced at Tabacalera Mina del Rey, which ADV & McKay’s co-founders—Knobel and Henderson Ventura—opened in late 2023. Once the ci**rs have been rolled, they head to the factory’s aging rooms for six months of rest prior to release.

Two new additions to the collection of Big Dave's Ci**rs from La Aurora Cigar US and Gurkha Ci**rs.

La Aurora Cigar US Preferidos in Connecticut, Maduro, Broadleaf, Cameroon, Corojo, and Sumatran blends. The Preferidos line was the first cigar manufactured in the Dominican Republic back in 1903. Its beautiful, unique shape was designed to offer a perfect blend of varying intensities. Preferidos, the cigar that established the cigar-making tradition of the Dominican Republic, is now rolled in limited quantities.

Maybe if people's heads weren't buried in the sand of ignorance and they took the time to understand, instead of judging and thinking it won't happen to them because they have the perfect family, life would be a little bit easier for people that do experience this! For family and friends who live under this shadow. The days of 'it' not being talked about or being taboo should be over. In the most difficult moments of life you realize who your true friends are, and the people who really appreciate you. Unfortunately, most social media 'friends' aren't true friends. They will send you a "like" here and there, but in reality they do not take time to read your status if they see it's lengthy. More than half will stop reading right here, or have already scrolled on to the next post on their page. I decided to post this message in support of all those who continue to battle with their mental illness. (Su***de is at an all time high). Now, let's see who will have taken the time to read this lengthy post right through to the end. If you have read everything so far, please "like" it so that I can put a thank you on your page. More mental health awareness is urgently needed. Just because you can't see it, doesn't mean people aren't suffering. Please, try to spare a little of your time with someone who may just want to talk (about anything). Talking can help us all to cope a little more, keeping things bottled up just makes it worse. Most people will say, "if you need anything, don't hesitate to call me, I'll be there to help you" but will they? I believe a select few of my friends will post this, to show their support for those who may be struggling. You just have to copy and paste rather than sharing. I'd like to know who will take a minute out of their day to read this all the way to the end and then copy and paste it to their page, will you? If so, please write "done" in the comments. As the wise man David Gilmour once said," Come in here, dear boy, have a cigar, you're going to go far." The reason for that statement is he had just tried the H Upmann 180th Anniversary Churchill.

Made in Nicaragua by A.J. Fernandez, the 180th Anniversary is a collaboration between Fernandez and Rafael Nodal, vice president of product capability for Tabacalera USA. The all-Nicaraguan blend features a medio tiempo wrapper that Nodal says was grown from a hybrid seed. Medio tiempo leaves sometimes sprout on the very top of a to***co plant, above the corona level, and are valued for their concentrated power. While the dimensions for the 175th and 180th anniversary are the same, the blends are different.

It’s saddens me to share with you the passing of a dear close friend. In fact, he was my best friend, Dave Russel. He has been fighting a good fight for some years with a debilitating disease. We have shared each others lives for 20 years. My heart is broken and there always will be a void in my life. He was gracious, kind, big hearted, and was always there when needed. Farewell my friend I will see you again.
