We had a pretty good group of hunters show up this morning, about a dozen in all and they were looking to make fast work of finding the bottle hidden by the Whiskey elves.

It sure wasn’t a record time but as a group, they were very determined and someone was going home with that Old Fitz.

It took some time and there were moments where everyone looked pretty lost. This spot was a tough one…

Finally after about 30 minutes, the moment came. It was located and the only question would be how to get it out of its hiding spot. But, a bit of a lift and a slide freed it up and just like that, it had a new home🥃

Tonight the elves have another very sneaky spot… I really think they are looking for a way to skunk you guys. Now, I’m not making a prediction here, but let’s just say, it wouldn’t surprise me if this bottle of Blantons Straight From The Barrel stayed right where it is for awhile tomorrow… maybe a long while…

The Whiskey Elves are officially frustrated! After all the time and effort they’ve put into planning their annual hunt and finding clever hiding spots, their bottles are still being found in record time.

This morning, Tony stole the show by cracking the code and finding the bottle in minutes. Congratulations, sir—well done! 🥃

But the Elves aren’t giving up yet. Tonight, they’ve hidden a bottle of Old Fitzgerald 10yr from the 2024 Spring release. At $140, it’s sure to have plenty of hunters ready to join the action.

Think you can frustrate the Elves tomorrow morning? Doors open at 10:00am sharp, so go ahead, sleep in a little—you’ll still have your shot at glory! Cheers and good luck!

Congratulations to Joe Pagano whose dogged determination saw him discover and claim one of his wish list bottles this morning. It sure wasn’t easy and there were a handful of people hunting around the store for nearly 30 minutes before the big moment.

Tonight the elves have left us one of the Crown Jewels of the bourbon world… the 2024 Four Roses Limited Edition Small Batch!🤯

Looks to be some pretty good visual clues in this picture. I wonder if any of our detectives can figure them out. Tomorrow is the weekend, are you sleeping in or going bourbon hunting? We open at 8:00am and we look forward to seeing you.

When we pulled in this morning to open the store, a car was waiting for us. It’s driver Bob K. and at 8 am when the doors were opened he and another hunter went to work.

Bob seemed to have something in his head and calmly strolled into the California room, he milled around for a couple of minutes and then claimed his prize tucked in behind some bottles of Biale Black Chicken.

Bob, it seemed had outsmarted the Whiskey Elves and claimed his prize. Just for good measure, after smiling and getting his picture taken, he dropped off a piece of paper at Jan’s desk on his way out.

When she unfolded it, printed on that paper was a picture of a bottle of Biale Black Chicken😳 He did it… with that dark non-de script clue, he had figured out exactly where in the store it was🤯

For good measure, he told me to update the picture of Biale on our website because they had updated the label and ours was still the last one😉

When you’re good, you’re good and you can color us impressed.

I’m not sure how happy those elves were and they have given us another hard one tonight. However, judging by how easy you guys are making this look, my guess is they’re going to have a few tricks of their own in the coming days!

Wrapping up the semester with our Holiday High-End Class. It was all about savoring some of the world’s finest wines from top regions and producers. As always, we paired our wines with cheeses, but this night was extra special thanks to our neighbors , who treated us to incredible cheeses, chocolates, and even salame that paired perfectly with every sip.

Those dastardly elves did a very good job of hiding last night’s bottle. In fact, we believe they had an accomplice!

We had a few hunters this morning walk out empty handed and scratching their heads. After a little while we noticed that the bottle wasn’t where the elves had hidden it and left us scratching our heads too🤔

Did someone grab it and walk out without paying? Were we remembering where they hid it correctly?!?

Then shortly after noon, we found it about 10 feet away from its original hiding place! Hmmm…

Did they see me taking a picture last night and move it? Or… was one of our hunters playing tricks of their own? We may not get the answer to this one.

In any case, we returned it to its original hiding spot and just a little while later it was discovered and claimed.

We are going to have to keep a sharp eye on things going forward!

Tonight’s bottle is an 11 yr Rye from the Willett Family Estate and those sneaky elves have made it a really tough one to decipher the clues. Let’s see if the whiskey sleuths out there can see something in the picture that helps to get them a head start before they head over for the hunt beginning tomorrow morning at 8:00am

The first morning’s Whiskey Elf bottle didn’t last long! Kevin Becker aka tracked down the Rock Hill Farms in just a couple of minutes, leaving the elf scratching its head (or maybe tipping its hat). 🥃

But tonight, the elf has stepped up its game. With a bottle of Michter’s 10yr Rye ($199.99) on the line, the visual clues seem trickier—and we hear the elf got a little creative with the hiding spot this time. Apparently, it was overheard giggling about how long it’ll take someone to crack this one.

Tonight, just after we closed up and called it a day, we heard it—the faint jingle-jingle of tiny bells out on the sales floor. We turned to look and could swear I saw a disappearing into the shadows. 🥃✨

I went to the area where I heard the noise to find that they left behind one very special bottle: Rock Hill Farms - $64.99.

But beware, these elves play by their own set of rules—one bottle per person for the entire promotion.

Nothing says ‘thoughtful’ like a gift of wine built for the ages.

The Produttori Riservas never disappoint but this one is special. 2019 was a spectacular vintage scoring between 94-98pts depending on who you listen to.

This is a young, tannic wine built for the ages but shows wonderfully at its very young age. Classic Nebbiolo in the glass reveals a new leather, Cherry, Raspberry, licorice, earthy forest floor, and the list goes on… to show such complexity at this young age hints to what time is going to do with this beautiful wine.

My recommendation, buy a six pack and put it away for a decade, and then open a bottle every few years and enjoy the evolution of a truly wonderful wine over time. Cheers. - PM.
