JB sez:

If you are a Canadian whiskey fan, current international events may alter your sipping habits in the near future. Many Canadian whiskeys are mostly rye based unlike many US whiskeys which are corn based with a second grain of rye or wheat, both grains readily available in the USA.

Finger Lakes Distilling on Seneca Lake is a leader in producing a world class rye named for the distillery founder, Brian McKenzie.

McKenzie Rye has been a favorite of mine since it was introduced. Finishing in Sherry casks gives it just enough sweetness.

It makes a great Old Fashioned!

Cocktail of the Week

Chocolate Orange Espresso Martini

Ingredients:

1 1/2 oz. Svedka Vodka
1 oz. Freshly Brewed Espresso
1/2 oz. Kahlua
1/2 oz. Cointreau
1/2 oz. Chocolate Syrup
Ice Cubes

Preparation:

Fill a cocktail shaker with ice.
Add vodka, espresso, coffee liqueur, orange liqueur, and chocolate syrup.
Shake vigorously for about 15-20 seconds until the mixture is well-chilled and frothy.
Strain into a chilled martini glass.
Garnish with orange zest and a sprinkle of grated chocolate or cocoa powder for an indulgent touch.

Cocktail of the Week

Cadillac Margarita Cocktail

Ingredients:

3 oz. Reposado Tequila
3 oz. Freshley Squeezed Lime Juice
2 oz. Cointreau
1/2 oz. Agave Nectar
Sea Salt, for glasses

Instructions:

1. Fill a cocktail shaker halfway with ice cubes. Add tequila, lime juice, orange liqueur, and agave.
2. Sprinkle sea salt on a plate. Rub the rims of two margarita or cocktail glasses with a lime wedge; dip the rims of the glasses into the salt, twisting to coat. Fill the glasses with ice.
3. Shake the cocktail shaker vigorously; pour the margarita mixture evenly into the two glasses. Serve with lime and or mandarin slices.

This bottle is gorgeous and the juice inside is just as lovely. I love a drier style bubbly. This tends to be just off dry and will work well with savory or sweet foods.

A bottle of this and a box of good chocolates is definitely a Valentine's Day treat. You are welcome in advance for the suggestion!"
