Sharing on the topic of - Black women and Workplace Discrimination. My perspective, women are taught to keep the peace/ go with the flow, to keep secrets, to downplay their intelligence, ask and accept less than their worth. I don’t believe in any of that. Black women, including myself have suffered and continue to suffer emotionally and economically simply because of fear -our abilities/intellect to take a little of something and make it amazing, fruitful and profitable. Black women rarely talk openly about discrimination in the workplace. And, when we do talk to friends and family, it’s often taken lightly and quickly dismissed. And, so we suppress the emotional trauma and keep it moving. But, the offense, the why, the frustration, the anger and maybe even self doubt is still there. In celebration of March’s Women’s History Month, I am hosting a small, private event Saturday, March 15th where Black women can openly talk about our collective experiences of discrimination in the workplace. To purchase your ticket, click the link at the bottom of this post. Below is some content that expresses what I believe many Black women have experienced in the workplace. “I show up every day ready to work — overprepared, twice as qualified, and carrying the weight of knowing I have to be. Because if I make a mistake, I know it won’t just be about me. It’ll be a reflection of all Black women.I swallow my frustration when someone repeats my idea in a meeting and suddenly it’s “brilliant.” I check my tone, soften my words, and make myself smaller so I don’t get labeled as “angry” or “intimidating.” I smile through microaggressions, knowing that pushing back could cost me opportunities — or my job.But the cost is already high.It costs me emotionally when I go home drained from wearing a mask all day. It costs me mentally when I second-guess whether I should’ve spoken up more or less. And it costs me financially when I’m passed over for promotions, paid less than my peers, or overlooked for leadership roles I’m more than qualified for.Being a Black woman in the workplace means constantly proving your worth while watching people undervalue you in real time. It means carrying a double burden — to excel and to endure. And it’s exhausting.I don’t want to just survive the workplace. I want to thrive in it. I want what I deserve: respect, opportunity, and pay that reflects the value I bring. And until that happens, I’ll keep speaking up — for myself and every other Black woman who’s tired of paying a price for just showing up.”✨ VENT at Kornr Store ✨Saturday, March 15th | 1 PM - 3 PMLadies, it’s time to release, connect, and be heard. Sharing!*Tone Policing*Tone policing happens when someone dismisses or discredits a message because of how it’s delivered, rather than engaging with the content of what’s being said. It often shows up as comments like, "Calm down," or "You’re too aggressive," and it shifts focus away from the real issue. How It Affects Black Women:Black women are disproportionately affected by tone policing, especially in workplaces and public spaces. When they express frustration, passion, or assertiveness, they’re often labeled as "angry" or "hostile," even when their response is justified. This dynamic silences Black women, discourages them from advocating for themselves, and adds an emotional burden as they navigate the pressure to constantly soften their tone to be heard.Creating spaces where Black women can speak freely — without judgment or the need to shrink themselves — is essential for healing, growth, and collective empowerment.✨ VENT at Kornr Store ✨Saturday, March 15th | 1 PM - 3 PMLadies, it’s time to release, connect, and be heard.
