Want to know where our unique selection of wine, beer and spirits comes from? We source the majority of our products from locally based distributors like Estate Brands (pictured here). Estate is run by an amazing husband and wife team, Aaron Steinke and Britt Russell, who treat their customers like gold. This week Aaron and Britt hosted our staff to a fabulous tasting of items to say thanks to the team and to provide some fun and education. We love their passion for their producers and products, their integrity when choosing who to work with and their generosity. Next time you buy a bottle of Lunaria Pinot Grigio Pet Nat, Dolin rouge vermouth or Hayman’s gin, you can thank them. (For a full list of what we carry from them, just ask! It’s a lot) You rock, !

With fall arriving, it's time to think about delicious seasonal cheeses, and the wines that match. Thanks to Bill St John, we have a cheat sheet for you!
What’s With That Cheese? Well, White Wine!
By and large, and despite common assumptions, white wines do a better job than red wines as regular partners for cheese. The higher native acidity of white wines is a happier match for both the high salt and fat of most cheeses. Read on:
▪ Comté (France) with white Côtes du Rhône
▪ Emmenthaler (Switzerland) with Dry Sauvignon Blanc (Sancerre or New Zealand)
▪ Fresh Goat with Dry Sauvignon Blanc (Sonoma, Loire, New Zealand)
▪ Gorgonzola (Italy) with Vin Santo or Bual Madeira
▪ Havarti (Denmark) with Medium-dry German Riesling
▪ Mahon (Spain) with Semi-Sweet or Dry Madeira
▪ Manchego (Spain) with Penedès Chardonnay or Almansa Tinto (La Mancha
▪ Morbier (France) with White Jura or Mâcon Blanc or Burgundy Roug
▪ Mozzarella di Buffala (Italy) with Greco di Tufo or Lacryma Christi Bianc
▪ Pont l’Eveque (France) with Alsace Pinot Gris or Rhône Viognie
▪ Roquefort (France) with Sauternes or Barsac
▪ Gruyère or Beaufort (France) with Chablis or Dry Mâcon Blanc

Two natural wines you should try!
KRISTEN'S PICK
Ramon Jane Baudili, Penedès, Spain
Friends & Family: $19.99/bottle
(Reg: $24.99)
When You're Craving a Wild Wine...
One of my favorite wines in the shop right now is the Ramon Jane Baudili out of Penedès, Spain, the home of Cava. This white blend of Xarel Lo and Parellada is utterly delicous, but definitely drinks off the beaten path. Between the blend, the terroir, and the fact that this wine is completely sans sulfur, it can be a wild one — in a good way. It's bright and refreshing and kinda creamy and oh-so-salty with notes of preserved lemon, pickled fruit, juicy peach, white flowers, and unripe pineapple.
DAVID'S PICK
Gustavo Riffo Lomas de Llahuen Pipeño, Itata, Chile
September Wine of the Month Feature: $19.99/bottle
This Wine is Full of Life!
The Gustavo Pipeño is a great way to introduce yourself to the world's oldest grape, known as Pais. On the nose I get a lot of ripe strawberry and raspberry with a kiss of smoke. There's a savory yet fresh and bright quality to this wine that's highly enjoyable.

Confused about "Natural Wine"? Don't be, Kristen to the rescue!
A natural wine has nothing added, and nothing taken away.
Nothing Added
The "nothing added" part, then, refers to no pesticides of any kind in the vineyards and no additives in the winery. People add stuff to wine to make it more stable, to make it higher in alcohol, to make it taste and feel smoother, and to make a quicker-made wine taste more aged. Natural wine uses none of these tactics in the vineyard or winery.

Natural wine truly is just grapes and yeast, but here the yeast is naturally occurring in the winery or on the grapes, so no commercial yeast is needed. Also, commercial yeasts can alter the direction in which fermentation would naturally go, so we also require that natural wines not use commercial yeast.
Nothing Taken Away
The "nothing taken away" part means that a natural wine is not filtered or fined. You may have seen evidence of zero filtration in a wine bottle before — that's just yeast, and it's harmless. We like to say it adds MORE flavor or character to a wine, like salt to food. When you see no sediment in a natural wine, it may have been gravity-filtered naturally so that the sediment fell over time and then was removed.

Several agents can be used for fining wine, and it is the use of animal-derived products such as egg whites or milk casein that can prevent a wine from being marketed as vegan. Filtration strips a wine of character. The more you filter, the more you strip. So, as we see it, to be natural, a wine cannot be filtered.
To sum up, a natural wine:
• has nothing added and nothing taken away
• is fermented with native yeasts only — no commercial yeast
• contains no pesticides or additives
• was not fined or filtered

What about sulfur? That's a separate conversation, so stay tuned!

We want you to drink these wines, yes, but DRINK THIS WINE is also the name of these wines.

Drink This Wine is a collaboration between cookbook writer and internet cutie Molly Baz (author of Cook This Book and More is More) and one of our favorite natural wine idols out of Oregon, Andy Young, of The Marigny — a collaboration that makes total sense, seeing as Molly and Andy are both into great-tasting, not-too-fussy, well-sourced food and drink things.

Each of the four wines we're offering is great in its own way, but we're also offering them as a package deal because we love the idea of the whole gang being enjoyed together.
save $5 off of each, and, if you get all 4, save an additional $7, for a total savings of $27 on 4 bottles. Order yours using the buttons below, through Tuesday, 6/25. Pick up your order at Marczyk Fine Wines starting Friday, 6/28.

White: An interesting blend of Riesling, Auxerrois and Pinot Gris, this white is aromatic as heck.
Orange: This juicy wine rides the line of white wine and skin contact (or orange) wine.
Cuvee: This wine is FUN! Juicy, bright, chillable — actually, we think even MORE chillable than the wine called "chillable" listed below.
More Red: This wine is called Chillable, and it is, for sure, but it's actually more structured and "red" than the Everyday Anyway Cuvee.

What are we drinking Now? Devin has a pure expression of Willamette Pinot Noir. Come and grab a bottle!
Grochau Cellars
Commuter Cuvée
Willamette Valley, Oregon
$24.99/btl.
Wanna go for a joy ride? Take your place atop this supple and resilient tannin frame on a comfortable and well-balanced seat of fresh black cherry and lavender-hinted oak. Commuter Cuvée is a blend of 11 vineyards, located all over the Willamette Valley. Each vineyard lot is fermented separately and aged in a mix of 70% French oak, 15% stainless steel, and 15% concrete tanks. It is then aged for 9 months before bottling. There's very little new oak in this wine, the aim of which is to make a fresh and pure expression of Willamette Valley Pinot Noir.

What We’re Drinking Right Now! PATAGONIAN CHARDONNAY! Verum makes one that’s fresh and clean, but textured, with some gorgeous notes of pineapple, pear tart and salty minerality. Oh-so delicious with the fish feature this weekend at Marczyk Fine Foods, Dover Sole. Make Sole Meuniére. Drink this. Julia Child would be proud. 😍

ORDER TODAY!
Discover a unique Nebbiolo from Alto Piemonte through the exquisite lens of Vallana.

We all love the classic wines of Burgundy, Piemonte and Tuscany, but what about those regions that get less play because they're slightly off the beaten path? We love those wines, too (and sometimes more, for the price). There can be great value in some of these lesser-known wines, along with extreme quality.

One place we're excited about right now is the Alto Piemonte region of Italy, where you'll find Nebbiolo in a plethora of styles uniquely different than those out of Barolo or Barbaresco.

The 2018 Boca and 2019 Gattinara from Giuseppina Vallana are recent arrivals to our shop. And we're offering EXCLUSIVE PRE-ORDER pricing. Order any amount of these, by the bottle or in mixed or full cases, and get them at a screamin' deal — save $9. Order through today, Monday, 2/26, and you can pick up your Vallana wines starting Friday, 3/1.
