🌷Due to the ongoing trade war we have decided to pivot our immersive Burgundy trip and switch from the Cotes to the Coasts. Grab your passports and SPF 800 lotion because this August we are headed to Steven’s home country of Florida!

✅This 6 night trip will begin in the beautiful Orlando airport where we will meet you in 2 1990s Winnebagos! Yep, Florida is so big that instead of renting a castle we will be sleeping on wheels. 2 micro showers for 15 people - just imagine the fun!

The itinerary includes:
🔻 A horizontal county by county Muscadine tasting
🔻 Snorkling with Champagne bongs in the crystal clear waters of Lake Okeechobee
🔻 6 RV dinners including gator tail tartar, boiled Gulf of America oysters
🔻 Interactive alligator wrestling
🔻 Axe throwing with Tim Tebow’s 2nd cousin!
🔻 Authentic tour of Europe at EPCOT — Who needs the real thing?!
🔻 A tour of the famous State Prison, including Ted Bundy’s ex*****on room, paired with authentic bathtub moonshine. The blind moonshine tasting winner gets to spend the night on the floor in an occupied cell!

✨Just $9,999 per person gets you all of this - tickets will release on April 31st!✨

🍷 Burgundy Club 🍷

Our love for Burgundy began well over a decade ago when we first visited the region. We’ve spent years studying the wines, producers and styles to culminate to this masterpiece: the Drink Burgundy Club. 🌹

We started the Drink Burgundy club last August and it quickly filled up. As the waiting list contintued to grow we decided to start a 2nd Burgundy club on the alternate months. While the original club gets 2 bottles of amazing Burgundy every other month on even number months, the new “odd” club gets the same thing on the odd months!

The great thing about Burgundy is the quality of the top wines, but the worst thing about Burgundy is the lack of quantity of those wines. Since we can’t source enough of any single wine to fill both clubs, the two clubs will get different, but equal Burgundies, and any additonal bottles we could score get offered to the other club members for the same price.

‼️Insane Announcement‼️- Burgundy club members get the same discounts and perks as our other club members! This includes first dibs for spots on our ✨Burgundy Immersive trip✨ this fall where we will host members in a castle for 6 nights and tour some of Burgundy’s historic and up-and-coming producers.

We expect this club to fill up quickly also
🔸$135 every other month gets you 12 special bottles of Burgundy every year, and we only include truly top tier producers to keep it special. You can trust us to get the best possible quality wines out there!

🍇 Folias de Baco 🍇

Last October, we ventured deep into the heart of the Douro Valley, where steep vineyard terraces plunge into the shimmering river below. Words can’t quite capture the sheer beauty of this place, but I tried my best in our latest blog post—highlighting our fantastic visit to Folias de Baco, a winery paving the way of what Douro wines can be.

In summary: wild, naturally fermented wines with energy, freshness, and soul—far from the traditional fortified wines the region is known for. 🍷✨

Instagram can’t handle the full story, but you can.

🍾Our Top 5 Champagnes of 2024🍾

🥂 Christophe Mignon ADN de Foudre Champagne Brut Nature: Mignon’s ADN de Foudre is a wild ride - a pure, zero-dosage expression of Meunier that shows the power of biodynamic farming with an intense energy and structure. This is a Champagne with texture and raciness.

🥂Eric Rodez Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs: Eric Rodez is a
master of Chardonnay and this Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs is a perfect example. It’s a layered and complex Champagne with a rich texture and incredible depth hinting at his prior gig making Krug.

🥂 Frederic Savart 1er Cru Bulle de Rosé Champagne Extra-Brut: Savart is the king of Blanc de Noirs with a lineup of Pinot Noir Champagnes that show incredible elegance. We haven’t tried his hard-to-find rosé yet but will be popping one ourselves tonight to ring in 2025.

🥂 Champagne Laherte Frères Blanc de Blanc Brut N
ature: Laherte Frères nails it with this Blanc de Blanc, a laser focused, bone dry wine that shows a real purity and minerality. This is acid and mineral driven Champagne at its best.

🥂Dhondt-Grellet Extra Brut Cramant Grand Cru Blanc de Blancs: This Grand Cru from Dhondt-Grellet is a classic expression of Cramant, one of the top villages in the Cote des Blancs. While some Blanc de Blancs are clean and lean, this one drinks like a Meursault with bubbles showing off a luxurious texture.

✨Rare & Remarkable Wines✨

One of the biggest perks of being part of our Wine Clubs or Beer Club? (Other than discounts and invitations to awesome free events): Exclusive first access to some of the world’s most coveted bottles—at prices that collectors can only dream of. These wines often sell for double (or more!) elsewhere, but as a member, you’re first in line to snag them at an unbeatable value.

🔸 Cécile Tremblay
A rising star in Burgundy since her debut in 2002, Cécile Tremblay is one of the most sought-after producers in the region. As a member of the legendary Jayer family, she’s inherited some of Burgundy’s finest vineyard sites, which she farms biodynamically. Her winemaking approach is all about purity, using minimal intervention and a light hand with new oak to let the vineyards truly shine. These wines are exceptionally rare—this week marks the first time we’ve ever had a bottle in our shop.

🔸 Domaine Takahiko
From the remote vineyards of Yoichi, Hokkaido, Japan, Takahiko Soga is making waves in the wine world. A true farmer at heart, Soga has been crafting Pinot Noir with care and precision since founding Domaine Takahiko in 2010. His approach is all about expressing the land’s unique character with minimal interference. These wines are so special that volunteers flock to his vineyard every year just to be part of the harvest.

These wines sold out within hours of being offered, so if you’re after wines that are almost impossible to find, our Wine Club is a great way to get insider access!

You can sign up for any of our Club memberships on our website.

🇨🇱 Exactly 10 years ago, we moved to Santiago, Chile 🇨🇱

Steven and I met in San Francisco in 2013 and in December 2014 we decided to move to South America on a whim. We were both ready for a new experience in life and wanted to broaden our horizons and wine knowledge. We had the courage to quit our jobs in our respective restaurant/wine bar and venture into the unknown together.

Our plan was to hang out in the city for a week or so and then go to Valparaiso and go from there.

We found a 1996 Subaru Legacy to buy and then a house to rent in Casablanca Valley. We cleaned up the house and then turned it into a Wine, Bed & Breakfast where we hosted people from 9 countries and gave them tours of wineries in Casablanca Valley and then did coursed wine dinners where we paired Chilean wine with my (Sally’s) cooking.

It was the absolute best time. We made friends with some incredibly cool people from all over the world, and learned so much about Chilean wine and culture in the process.

Our first mini wine business was mostly just for fun and we barely broke even on expenses. The Chilean adventure eventually came to an end 4 months later and we made our way back to the States in April 2014.

We picked a city we had never been to before to live, also in close proximity to a wine region: Portland, Oregon.

10 years later, we have the privilege of running a serious wine business in our home country 🏔️🥂

🍷Grand Tasting: Burgundy & Piedmont 🇫🇷🇮🇹

Thanks to everyone who came to our event on Saturday evening!

It was an awesome event for lovers of great wine and black truffles! Our events are designed to showcase the most iconic wines from the best producers: We opened rarities such as whites from Domaine Roulot, Barbera from Lorenzo Accomasso, Sylvie Esmonin Gevrey-Chambertin and Grand Cru Corton from Pierre Guillemot. All paired with and freshly shaved Burgundy truffles 🍕🍄‍🟫

If you’re interested in joining our next event make sure you’re subscribed to our email newsletter, or better yet, sign up for one of our 4 Wine Clubs! Members get first dibs on tickets 🎟️

Don’t want to commit to boatloads of wine? Check out the Drink Piedmont Club, which includes two bottles of wine from Italy’s greatest region every other month (12 bottles a year).

We have a few ideas in mind for the next one, and while it’s hard to top Piedmont and Burgundy we will do our best! We’re always coming up with new ideas to make wine as fun and exciting as possible: whether it’s a blind tasting table or a chance to win a magnum of Grand Cru Burgundy!

✨Bodegas Granbazán ✨

Winery #2 in our Rias Baixas, Spain adventure was Granbazán.

The Granbazán winery is located in the Val do Salnés subregion in the town of Vilanova de Arousa, very close to Cambados, the “World Albariño Capital.”

Inspired by the great wineries of France, Manuel Otero Candeira built and founded the Granbazán chateaux in 1981, surrounded by pergola-trained Albariño vines. They were a pioneer in the region, and since 2017, Pedro Martínez Hernández took ownership and invested in modern winemaking equipment, trained enologists, and temperature controlled fermentation.

We were guided through the winery to see production and aging and of the range of their Albariño.

🟢 Etiqueta Verde - the most crisp, vibrant and fresh expression of Albariño
🟠 Etiqueta Ambar - extended lees aging results in more texture and roundness
🔵 Limousin - Pioneer of oak-aged Albariño! Aged in foudre barrels for 4-6 months, resulting in more intensity, texture and age worthiness
🟣 Don Alvaro de Bazan - Made only in the best vintages from selected plots, and aged on the lees for a minimum of 2 years

These are delicious, precise wines that are consistently excellent. We had the most thorough and informative guide that embodied hospitality and knowledge. Looking forward to having the full lineup in the shop soon!

⭐️ Bodegas Albamar⭐️

Until visiting them earlier this month, we didn’t appreciate the small scale and relative youth of this winery which has existed for less than 20 years. Their crowded space squished in between houses, vines, and a restaurant proves that great wine can be made without multi-million dollar wineries, and we’d argue the most interesting wines are more likely to be made in humble spaces such as Albamar.

The Albarinos they craft all lean towards the crisp, salty, floral, highly mineral style with some single block wines showing more floral aromatics. We tried some Albariño with 10+ years of age and they were still so fresh but with an exotic complexity from the age. You can tell all the wines are from grapes grown on the coast, just steps from the Atlantic.

We were lucky to sit down to a lunch prepared by winemaker Xurxo’s mom at the next door restaurant. We were greeted by copious amounts of fresh seafood and then came the housemade Spanish Tortilla with garden tomatoes. All while sampling several different bottlings of Albariño and even an incredible Albariño pet nat. We also tried some of his red wines from both Ribeira Sacra and Rais Baixas. The Mencia was in our Drink Better Club this month!

A special thanks to Xurxo and Maria for the amazing lunch and hospitality! - we have always enjoyed these wines but we now have a deeper appreciation for how truly special these wines are! Drink more Albariño!

🌧️🌱 Rais Baixas 🇪🇸

We were fortunate to spend 3 rainy days in this coastal NW Spanish wine region, mostly within the Val do Salnés subregion. The most unique quality of this region is that there are very few large, contiguous vineyards but instead a patchwork of tiny plots between estuaries and residential areas.

⭐️ Albariño is the star and here and this wine easily holds its own among the greatest white wines of the world. The wines are so bright, crisp, fresh and fruity with high acidity. The range of styles is what surprised us most: the current vintage are almost a bit spritzy and fresh, while Albariño with some age can hold a golden hue, have aromas similar to Viognier (floral and spicy), and remind us of a ripe Riesling! The name Albariño indeed means “the white from Rhine” which is a nod to German Riesling.

Some of the vineyards are mere feet from the Atlantic and many vineyards are Pergola or canopy trained to allow the sea breeze to keep the grapes dry and avoid mildew. In the ocean inlets, the “rias”, are numerous mussel farms. Mussels are one of the most appreciated and important gastronomic delicacies in Galicia, and they are a big part of the local economy in addition to wine!

Further inland, there are more vines at higher altitudes, and we were lucky to enjoy a wine from vines over 200 years old which have never succumbed to phylloxera (Do Ferreiro Cepas Vellas)! The soil and the remoteness of the vines help them avoid this terrible microscopic insect.

A tiny amount of red wine is also produced here (Caiño Tinto, Espadeiro, Loureira Tinta, Sousón), but with the cool climate and plentiful rain they are low alcohol and savory making for a unique pairing option.

Albariño is a compelling and complex wine that really can’t be replicated anywhere else on earth.

TL;DR: We love Albariño. You need to drink more Albariño because it’s delicious and absolutely perfect with seafood 🦞

🥇The Best Piedmont Selection🥇

We’re thrilled to announce that we’ve been awarded the #1 Piedmont wine list by ⭐️ and the #2 overall list in Denver! 🥈

Building an online shop that showcases our full selection has been a true labor of love. Each product is meticulously photographed, and our live inventory ensures you always know exactly what’s in stock. Most listings also feature detailed descriptions, so you can fully explore each bottle before making your choice.

On top of that, we strive to offer the best prices in the market, ensuring local shopping is the best choice as opposed to buying from an out of state store.

This recognition means the world to our small team! Competing with much larger stores that have greater resources makes this achievement even sweeter. Our depth of knowledge, dedication to efficiency and attention to detail continues to set us apart, and we couldn’t be prouder of the hard work that got us here!

🦖 Jura 🦕

We went to Jura on a trip to France in 2014 and had the opportunity to see this region for the first time during harvest. It has a magical charm to it: it looks something like the village in Beauty and the Beast. Photo #5 is a giant cluster of grapes 🍇 made from grape clusters and it gets paraded through the village of Arbois to signify harvest.

Jura in eastern France is (already) the next Burgundy. Some producers have seen prices skyrocket as the wines get more attention, but most have just kept making incredible wines without much notice: this family domaine is one of them - not only have their vineyards been farmed organically for decades, but they also farm cows for comté cheese and grains for bread. 🥖🧀

Fans of Pinot Noir who don’t know Ploussard (also spelled Poulsard) and Trousseau need to try these reds - the Ploussard is everything savory and wild with a color barely darker than rosé. Trousseau is a bit more fleshy but still served before the Pinots, which is the one Jura grape this family does not farm.

The vineyards combine for 5.5 hectares, and most of the wine is not exported, so we are fortunate to be able to get some of these to offer here in Colorado. These 3 bottlings are among 16 Jura wines that we currently offer! Big Box stores could NEVER! We love Jura for the distinctive elegant and complex wines with an ever present earthiness coupled with incredible value.

❇️ Anniversary Tasting Recap ❇️

Last Friday’s tasting was one for the books! We were thrilled to see such a great turnout of friends and supporters. Thank you all for joining us in this celebration 🥂

Each anniversary holds a special place in our hearts, a poignant reminder of life’s fragility and the importance of cherishing what we often take for granted—like our health. It’s easy to forget its significance until it begins to wane, and by then, it’s too late. Remembering that our vibrant, healthy bodies are not a permanent gift but rather a temporary blessing puts everything into perspective. Gratitude is the key to acknowledging that everything we hold dear—love, health, our business—is fleeting and precious.

Make the most of every experience, creating memories that will last a lifetime. These moments are what life is truly about, making every bit of the journey worthwhile.

While Denver Wine Merchant may not be here 100 years from now, the memories we’ve created together over the past four years are unforgettable. Your support means the world to us, and we can’t thank you enough.

As we mark another year, we also celebrate Sally’s journey. The average lifespan for someone with ALS is just 2-5 years from diagnosis, but Sally has defied the odds and continues to be the amazing wine nerd we all know and love. Here’s to many more tastings together!
