Red Zin for Saturday's Tasting
2009 Easton Zinfandel
The 2009 has full black cherry and blackberry fruit aromas with a beautiful balance and a big, sumptuous, juicy mouth feel. It also presents complex spicy aromas, with a nice creamy texture derived from the 10 months time it receives in French oak barrels.
The wine enhances spicy foods, including meat and pastas.
The wine sells for $16.99 a bottle.
PHIL'S FAVORITE SUMMER DRINK
We agree with Phil on his favorite summer drink. Make sure you stop in to get your bottle of New Age white wine. It's regularly $9.99 and until this Saturday, it's only $9.00.
We know you'll love this wine as much as Phil.
Cheers!
Red Wine for Friday's Tasting
Pillar Box Red 2008
The 2008 Pillar Box Red has a dark color and a vibrant purple hue, with aromas of fresh blueberry fruit, licorice, dried mint and cinnamon undertones.
The palate is dense and juicy, with flavors of fresh blackcurrant and cherry combined with aniseed and mocha oak characters. The wine is rich and full bodied, well balanced and seamless with soft, persistent tannins.
This wine is from Australia and priced at $13.99.
The White Wine for Friday's Tasting
Banyan Monterey County Gewurtztraminer 2010
In 2010, Banyan began sourcing Gewurtztraminer from Ventana Vineyards in Monterey. The vineyard is carefully farmed to assure the specific ripeness and the right balance of sugar and acidity. This wine tastes similar to Riesling, with an added spiciness.

Red Blend for Saturday's Tasting
Bogle Vineyards Phantom Red Blend
The wine is 51% Zinfandel, 47% Petite Sirah and 2% Mourvedre. Notes of boysenberry and dark fruit are deepened with aromas of pipe tobacco and black pepper, with subtle hints of clove and vanilla softly envelop the palate. Intense and luscious, the rich character opens to reveal red fruit of spirited cranberries and raspberries. Over 2 years in American oak capture and concentrare the essence of the three unique varietals, creating yet another vivid and full-bodied red wine. Enjoy with hearty meals. $21.49.
Italian Red for Saturday's Tasting
Agostino Pavia Barbera d'Asti Bricco Blina 2009
This Barbera wine is zesty but balanced, with luscious fruit to match the acidity. Low yields and old vines give this wine very good depth and concentration. Bright red in color, with a violet rim; aroma of red berries and mineral; palate is classic Barbera, bright raspberry and cranberry flavors with a very long finish. Blina is the name of the vineyard. This wine is a direct, straightforward rendition of the Barbera grape.
Fermentation and aging are completed in stainless teel, and the wine is bottled before harvest. $13.99
Heron Cab for Saturday Tasting
This is a delicious wine with plenty of blackberry and red currant flavors, deep color and moderate to firm tannins. The Cab is blended with Cabernet Franc and Malbec to add complexity. The wine is aged for about nine months in French oak with medium-toast. It is our red wine of the month, regularly priced at $13.99, on sale for $12.49. The wine received a score of 86 from the Wine Enthusiast. Scores in the mid 80s are the mark of a good wine. Scores in the 90s signal a great wine with something extra special in character.
Taste Saturday's German Riesling, a Sweet White
Hirschbach & Sohne Piesporter Michelsberg Riesling Auslese 2010, Mosel, Germany
This wine is ripe and sweet but not cloying. Loaded with apricot and honey flavors, it has excellent balance with a lingering finish. Serve chilled.
"Auslese" is a term describing very ripe, late-picked grapes that render a fairly sweet and luscious dessert wine. These are hand-selected bunch by bunch.
"Piesporter" is a term used to describe a wine made in and around the village of Piesport on the north bank of the Mosel wine region of Germany.
Hirschbach literally translates to "Stag Brook" as the label illustrates. It evokes a pleasant scene that is symbolic of the generous and friendly style of these wines. We know that they will be enjoyed by all and with most foods, from seafood and poultry to light meats. This wine may also be used as a dessert wine. $12.79.
