I’m not one to share many personal donation requests through our business’s social media, but I’ll make an exception for a dear friend here in our community that many of you might know but not be aware of the fight that she and her family have been going through.

When my former business partners and I opened House Wine in 2007, I was learning quite a bit on the fly. It included building out a space, the multiple permits, inspections, and boundaries for opening a business, unexpected tax increases, figuring out what we were offering, and much more.

A number of weeks before we opened, I saw a large SUV with Grateful Dead stickers pull into our front lot. A young woman jumped out and walked into our unfinished space. This was pretty common with people just curious and wanting to know what’s going on. But Lisa was different. She asked me if we were hiring. That was a very good question and I realized that I should probably begin to figure that out.

We talked briefly and she shared more about herself. Local mom with three kids and a husband. She previously worked at Whole Foods. A personal interest in wine. I believe her personal card had stick figures for the whole family and her email address was funny and appropriate. I didn’t know what I was doing but everything felt right about Lisa and she was our first employee.

This strategy seemed to work with filling out of the rest of our team but I tried to at least meet them for coffee to give the scene some sense of professionalism and structure. We were so fortunate to find some wonderful people like Lisa to fill our team and help carry the business forward. Lisa would later leave us for a full-time wine sales position with our friends at Wine Trends and I know they were better for it. We were grateful that we were a part of the path in her career, but more importantly, our friendships would endure.

Lisa has been battling a fight for the past five years that’s not only kept her from work but has required her husband Jason to be her caretaker while trying to continue with his career. Lisa now needs to receive professional care that supports her and Jason continuing to work. Unfortunately, there’s no coverage to assist with this type of care. We’ve witnessed Jason’s love and care for Lisa during this time with admiration and hope they can get the care they both deserve and need.

If you know Lisa like many of us, she’s the combination of motherly love, the fun aunt, and a sister. She and Jason have been wonderful friends to all they know and have raised three awesome kids. They don’t know strangers. If you’re in the position and spirit of giving, please consider. Even if you don’t know them, I can promise you that they’d be dear friends if you did.

We're looking for a new member for the Aardvark armory!

We would like someone to join our team for Saturday nights (and occasionally other shifts as needed). Reliable, genuinely want to take care of coworkers and customers, can figure things out on the fly, and some level of interest in wine and beer. It's a mix of retail and serving customers but 100% good times. The perfect second "job," an evening away from the house to meet new people, and learn more about wine and beer.

Thaanks to all of you who dropped off winter coats to keep others warm this winter. We collected 156 coats with Moog Group, Keller Williams Capital Partners for Joseph's Coat of Central Ohio, Inc. We appreciate Glenn and Cathe Moog for partnering with us to help others in real need in our community. Bravo to all who participated!

We were packed to the ceiling with coats for Joseph's Coat of Central Ohio! Thanks to everyone who donated new and gently-used coats in Moog Group's 3rd annual Coat Drive!

156 coats, plus hats, gloves, mittens and scarves will help keep others warm this winter!

It's the New Year but our weekly tastings aren't slowing down. Today through Sunday, open to close, only $15. Because it's the first weekend of the month, we're donating 20% of our tasting fees to a local nonprofit.

First, the wines! We'll begin with an aromatic, dry gewurztraminer from called Banyan. We'll end with their Parts & Labor red blend. We're big fans of not just the wines, but this family's winery ethos as far as sourcing, making affordable wines, and giving back through their and supporting other initiatives. In between these wines, we'll have a dry, fruit-tinged furmint called Evolucio and a shop favorite cabernet franc called Laroque which is back in stock.

This month, we're donating to the , an organization that's near and dear to us. They just announced that they're moving to a new location that will triple their footprint to provide necessities to those in need here in our community. Go to their website to learn more and support them directly.

We hope to see you this weekend to taste, hang out, and shop. Get all of your provisions before the winter weather snowmageddon arrives!

Happy New Year!

We're back to normal hours beginning today. In addition to our regulars who don't drink, we know some of you are taking it easy for the month of January. Whether you're sober or doing Dry, Damp, or Wet January, we've got you!

We've become a THC beverage (NA) destination and we're expanding our offering as we speak. We've also brought in more NA wine and mocktails in addition to our NA craft beer selection. You can skip the alcohol without skimping on the flavor and relaxed vibes.

We look forward to seeing you soon at Aardvark and here's to a wonderful 2025 ahead. Cheers!

Whaat a year it's been for us and we want to send a big heartfelt thank you from our family and team at the shop. We hope you've enjoyed the wines and beers as much as we've appreciated the opportunity to connect you with better options from other family-owned and operated businesses.

Our year was above and beyond what we expected and we look forward to continued growth with you in 2025 while doing our part to give back. We'll be adding a few things up after the holiday and will share that with you soon.

We're open 11:30am-7pm today and closed tomorrow. Come get some bubbles or your preferred beverages. We're fully stocked on NA if you're living a sober life or taking part in Dry or Damp January.

Megan has been carrying our family while I've worked so I thought I should bring Champagne home to share with her tonight. I don't know if the bubbles will make it to dinner.

Thanks to all who came through our doors yesterday and joined us for our tasting last night with Nicola Comelli of along with Dave from . Everybody loved the wines! We have plenty of bottles left over with some gift packaging available today. Two magnums of pignolo remain for the wine nerd in your life.

It was only appropriate to take Nicola to for a late night dinner of Columbus's finest. He approved!
