Green's Beverages Piney Grove

Green's Beverages Piney Grove We opened our first store in 1937, and we’ve been serving up the best prices and selections of beer, Eventually, there were 6 stores citywide.
(251)

1937, our founder, Leonard Greenbaum, opened Green's Package store on a street front location on Ponce De Leon Avenue in Midtown Atlanta. He operated the store for years as a standalone business - until his son Jerry joined the buisness after serving in the military in the 1960's. After some fits and starts, Jerry opened an additional store on Buford Highway just North of Lenox Road. At that time,

Dekalb county was "dry" and the Buford store sat adjacent to the county line, so you can imagine how busy it got. After Buford Highway, a series of stores were opened across town, North and East mainly, over the next decade. However, in 1990, our company and the State of Georgia signed a deal that included the sale of all of our stores but two. In 1977, while in Myrtle Beach, SC Jerry noticed a lack of any large format "discount looking" stores and decided to fill that void. Our Myrtle Beach store opened just before Christmas in 1977 and it quickly became the leading volume store in South Carolina. Tour buses, Canadians and vacationing South Carolinians all enjoyed the low prices and, at the time, the most massive liquor, beer, and wine store around. Greenville followed in 1983 and was the first store built as what was for 2 decades our prototypical store - larger (around 8,000 square feet), high ceilinged and brightly lit. Downtown Columbia, built adjacent to California Dreaming, opened in 1984. Almost an afterthought, Jerry never imaged that the restaurant and liquor store block would be so busy. Incidentally, the opening of California Dreaming and its subsequent success were the beginning of Jerry's move away from the liquor stores and towards building and opening restaurants. Good call - that company, which is still 100% family owned and operated, has 20 restaurants across the southeastern US, including the aforementioned California Dreaming. In 2003, we found an opportunity to open a new type store - Green's Beverage Warehouse - near Harbison Blvd in Columbia. A 15,000 square foot warehouse full of pallets of wine, beer and miscellaneous goods. I became the President of Green's in 1996 and serve in that capacity today. And that’s our history in a nutshell – not what you would call “fancy”. We remain a small, family owned and operated business. We have employees that have been our associates for 40 years and are like extended family. I am an active buyer in the company, and we do not have a grand corporate suite, just offices in the basement of downtown Columbia’s California Dreaming! Who knows what opportunities will present themselves in the future - but I do know that we love what we do and plan on doing it as long as possible in both GA and SC.

- Lock Reddic, President

Available starting today, March 22nd, at 10 am-our first of 2025!

This bourbon from Eagle Rare may be light on the nose but don't let that fool you- the palate blew us away when we tasted barrel samples, showing smooth baking spice notes that melded into a cookie butter flavor at the finish and a rich, sumptuous caramel feel.

Our Barrel Pick from Sazerac Rye brings in a buttery richness on the nose, and the flavors bring out more intriguing notes of roasted apple, sweet alfalfa, and brown sugar, with a peppered nutmeg finish.

These are limited offerings, and once they're gone, they're gone!

On a sleepy Sunday afternoon, in an unassuming building overlooking Lake Murray, a few of our team gathered to meet the kind, engaging family behind Hollow Creek Distillery.
We were unequivocally impressed, both with the quality of what we tasted with them and the friendly professionalism that every single person we interacted with exhibited. This local distillery has a delicious portfolio that we highly suggest you try- and even better, they're a paragon of what a local business should be.
Their grain is sourced as locally as possible, and spent grain is picked up to be fed to livestock by local famers. Their offerings give back to local organizations like the Garnet Trust. Even the food they served us came from places like a bakery just down the road (we're still thinking about the caramel sauce made with Hollow Creek whiskey!).
As we get back into the swing of things after , is a lifestyle change that we can definitely get behind- take a little time this month to discover the little treasures in our state, no matter what they may be!
Thank you to Craig, Meredith, Erin, Amanda, Tiffany, and everyone else at Hollow Creek Distillery for inviting us out for a visit- we'll definitely be back!

Since it's month, we thought we'd share that Baileys is a B Corp. The 'B' stands for ‘Benefit for all', in that B Corporations are businesses that have been certified by B Lab to put the planet and people over profits. As we say at Green's, "We'll drink to that." Somebody pass the mudslides.

09/04/2023

Labor Day celebrates the women and men who campaigned tirelessly for workers' rights in the labor movement of the late 19th century. Their hard-fought wins are the reason for many of the rights we enjoy and take for granted today, such as a 40-hour work week, safe work conditions, paid time off, and sick leave. Those workers saw that there could be no freedom and liberty in this country without economic freedom for the working class. The holiday honors the source of this nation's strength—American workers, unions, and labor leaders. No matter how you decide to celebrate Labor Day 2023, take some time to reflect and pay tribute to all the laborers, past and present, who helped build America and make it the country it is today.Today, we raise a glass to all of you.

Our Story

The Green’s tradition started when our first store opened in 1937. Since then, we’ve maintained a sincere dedication to our customers. Our range of products has become huge, consisting of craft beer, wine, and party supplies. And we’ve made it our practice to offer the lowest prices we can. Today, when you come in, we want you to know that you’ll be taken care of. Your questions will be answered, you’ll be directed toward exactly what you’re looking for, and if you can’t find something, we’ll special order it for you. Sure, we’ve grown a lot over the last eight decades, but we’re still the same down-to-earth beverage center you’ve come to rely on, and we plan on staying that way, Columbia.
