Thank Grapes It’s Friday!
TASTING JURA WINES TONIGHT, FRIDAY, JUNE 27.
Join Eliza Starbuck for a tasting of two exceptional wines from the Jura in France. First, we’ll open a 2020 vintage aged savagnin blanc that was thankfully forgotten in the cellar to age but not oxidized, making this crisp, classical beauty taste as if it were sculpted out of chalk and marble. Next, we’ll flirt with a coral-colored, chillable, poulsard rouge offering freshness, minerality, and the quality that only the Jura delivers.

Planning a girls’ night? Flowercup has sparkling rosé that will treat the Ladies right! Small grower, traditional Cava made with the same methods as Champagne. It was delicious!

Hand numbered and small batch means we work with small family farms making traditional and natural wines. Here’s a fabulous Primitivo (aka zinfandel) from Puglia. Only 2690 bottles were made and we only have 12 of them! It’s an extra special treat if you can get your hands on one.

Join us for our Friday night tasting, 4:00-7:00pm. Tonight we feature two fascinating wines from Chile.
Forget the big wine factories of Chile. For centuries, small Chilean farmers have made their own tasty table wine, called pipeño. In preparation for the hot season, we have two refreshing, handmade offerings from Chile in the pipeño tradition: a chillable light red made from cinsault, país, and carignan and a wild, surprising white from “Gamay Blanc”—a.k.a. chardonnay, but unlike any chardonnay we’ve tasted.
We hope to see you at Flowercup tonight!

Dear Local Customers:

The sunbeams and birdsong of spring are here, and it’s time to embrace the good life—good wine, good food, and getting together with friends and family members. In April Flowercup ends winter hours, which means we open on Mondays again.

If you’ve visited the shop during a weekday, you may have seen us sipping (and spitting out) samples of wine with importers and winemakers. We taste almost every day to find obscure gems of overwhelming quality and underwhelming price. Only about five percent of what we taste is worthy of sharing with you, our friends.

For the sociable, wine kindles companionship, and for the solitary, it kindles philosophy. You can’t ask for much more than that!

Preparing for tariffs

Many of you have asked about the new tariffs. Yes, they will eventually affect the pricing and availability of wines we want to sell.

We’ve prepared by ordering a massive amount of stock at pre-tariff prices, especially when we spot bargains. That’s why there’s an even bigger mountain of boxes than usual in the front of the shop.

You can help. If you normally buy a bottle or two a week, consider buying a case or two now to store at your home. We’ll all benefit because you and Flowercup can then buy less later at tariff-inflated prices. We’re happy to deliver orders within Philipstown for a small fee.

THANK GRAPES IT’S FRIDAY!
Join us tonight, January 10, at Flowercup Wine, from 4pm-7pm, for a taste of southern Italian sunshine and iron-rich volcanic soils! First, we’ll visit Puglia for a dark horse rosato worthy of drinking fireside during cold winter weather. Next, we’ll visit Calabria for a distinctive red made with rare grapes, gaglioppo, malvasia nero, and greco nero, that will restore your blood and comfort your spirit through winter.
On a budget after the holidays? Ask us for our January specials! We just got in five new and unusual wines under $20 worth squirreling up during hibernation.
Going dry this January? We have options that will help you make your goals and get through the month.

Surgeon General be damned, we’ll take our daily enjoyment any day!
Join us tonight for our Friday night tasting, 4-7pm. This week we’re tasting wines of Eastern Europe with a blaüfrankish blend from Slovakia and an orange rkatsiteli from the country of Georgia. We hope to see you there!

Perhaps the best thing about wine is that it encourages us to reflect that no matter what our situation, we have reasons to be grateful. Wine is a way to celebrate every day.

Among the many reasons we at Flowercup are grateful are you — our friends and neighbors who make it a daily joy to be wine merchants. We thank you all and wish you happy holidays!

GIFT IDEA #3: A Personalized Case

What better proof of your admiration than twelve wines selected to suit the recipient’s taste? If the recipient is a regular at our shop, we probably already know what to suggest. Otherwise, we’ll work within any guidelines you provide. You can order a single case or keep the cheer flowing with a monthly subscription. The price of each case is the total of the retail prices of the wines minus ten percent.
