Thank you and Godspeed, President Jimmy Carter!

We here at Freight Yard Brewing love history, and here's a great story to remember our 39th President, on this National Day of Mourning:

Homebrewing beer was outlawed in 1919 due to Prohibition, and wasn't included in the repeal. All brewers have to pay excise tax, but there wasn't a way for a homebrewer to do so, so it was illegal.
An exemption for home brewing (and winemaking) co-sponsored by Senator Alan Cranston of (D-California) and Rep. William Steiger (R-Wisconsin) was written into HR 1337. The exemption was passed on October 14, 1978, and signed into law by President Jimmy Carter

February 1, 1979, homebrewing was officially recognized as federally legal, and the rest is homebrew history!

Our good friends & neighbors at Samascott Orchards lost their main barn last night. Total loss, no injuries (silver lining)
