Water Recovery Efforts:
Chicopee MA- At approximately 12:30 am on 3/9/2025 WESTCOMM Regional Dispatch received a 911 call reporting a male party in the CT River off Walter St. Responding Officers were unable to locate anyone in the river and called out our Drone Unit as well as our Under Water Response Team (URT). After searching for several hours the search was ended.
At approximately 10:30 am, Officers and Detectives returned to the scene and discovered what appeared to be signs of a possible car crash at the end of Walter St. Evidence was found that led the Detectives to believe that a vehicle may have driven into the CT River. Based on this information our URT with the assistance of the Massachusetts State Police Dive Team made its way to that area and located a vehicle in the river. At approximately 7:00 pm the vehicle was removed from the river however, it was unoccupied. The license plate on the vehicle does match that of Daniel Callahan, who was reported missing earlier today in East Windsor CT.
At this time we cannot confirm if Daniel was the operator of the vehicle at the time that it entered the river. With the help of the Massachusetts State Police the search for the operator will be ongoing. This is an open investigation being conducted by the Chicopee Police Crash Reconstruction Team, Hampden County District Attorney’s Office, Massachusetts State Police and the East Windsor CT Police Department.
As more information about this investigation becomes available we will update our posts.
