⚠️SCAM ALERT:

The Chico Police Department has recently received information from a community member who said they received a phone call from someone pretending to be associated with CPD.

When they answered the phone, they were told there was an affidavit against them, and authorities were on their way. The community member knew this was a scam and ended the call.

The scammer spoofed our phone number in this instance, so it looked like the call was coming from CPD. Please do not fall victim to this scam. If you receive a call similar to this one, hang up.

The scammer made no monetary requests during this phone call, but as an important reminder, the Chico Police Department will never call anyone or a business soliciting money.

Update - On Tuesday, June 20, around 11:14 a.m., the Chico Police Dispatch Center received a call from a park visitor reporting a deceased individual in a parked vehicle in Upper Bidwell Park. Patrol Officers promptly responded and confirmed the male occupant of the vehicle was deceased.

Due to the nature of the incident and the presence of a firearm inside the vehicle, Chico Police Detectives were called to the scene to initiate an investigation. Following the investigation, it was determined the cause of death was an apparent su***de.

The Chico Police Department would like to express our deepest condolences to the family of the decedent. At this time, we will not be releasing their identity.
