Unlike sake, shochu is a distilled spirit that's been a staple in Japan for centuries. , our featured spirit for next week’s Tachinomi Tuesday, is smooth, versatile, and perfect for any occasion.

Here are 3 fun facts about shochu:

1️⃣ Shochu can be made from a variety of ingredients, including barley, sweet potatoes, and even rice, giving each type its unique flavor.

2️⃣ Shochu is consumed more than sake in Japan. Do Chu-his and Highballs ring a bell?

3️⃣ Shochu is naturally gluten-free and often has fewer calories than other spirits—cheers to that! 🥂

On Tuesday, August 20, from 6-8 p.m., join us for our popular Fold & Sip event in collaboration with the Japanese Cultural Center of Chicago. Yamamoto-sensei will be on hand to help you understand those Ikea-like origami instructions. All materials will be provided, and you can fold and sip at your own pace. This is an event for all levels as Yamamoto-sensei will have different papers and instruction books on hand so you can explore any folds you would like. If and when you get stuck, Yamamoto-sensei will help you get through the specific fold or finish it for you.

Tickets are $15 per person, and all ticket proceeds go directly to supporting the Japanese Cultural Center of Chicago's programs.
