There’s something about little “Mom and Pop” stores that you just don’t get anyplace else. It’s like family. Just when you think you’ve seen everything, you may step in to Alcock’s Market and find owners Don and Karen Manzel involved in a little “happy dance” to a tune on the radio, or giving each other a hug or a smooch, or at odds with each other over something (that turns out to be trivial) and
you just happened to walk in during the heat of it. A hard working family that not only provides your everyday convenience store items, but Alcock’s “adult beverage wing” offers a great selection of wines, your favorite liquor and icy cold beer. If craft beer is more to your liking, Don makes it a point to feature premier craft-brewery choices from Michigan and beyond. Karen heads up Alcock’s take-out foodservice operation. More and more folks become regulars once they’ve had a taste of the made-to-order and generously portioned pizzas and subs. Although the “Forklift” is by far the Kitchen’s most popular Specialty pizza, every pie is crafted by hand and oven baked; always original. Fresh-baked sub sandwiches are sublime, because Alcock’s subs are made lovingly using high-end stuff, no skimping, no microwave. And a pickle! Alcock’s deli items are short-dated to ensure freshness and quality to you, and you can pick up a nice lunch deal with a bag o’ chips and a can o’ pop that’s easy on the budget. Also in the deli, our fresh meats are processed and packaged at Circle M Ranch, located in southern Cheboygan County. A once-weekly delivery insures fresh burger, chops and specialty meat products that have kept Circle M thriving for over two decades. (We use their excellent ground beef and fresh sausages in our Kitchen.) It’s all great! And Alcock’s Market wouldn’t be Alcock’s if it weren’t for everyone else who work’s hard here. There’s Dennis and Vicki*, and Amy and Marcie to be thankful for, too. Each has their own strengths, and we all love to serve others, so the customer benefits the most
