Friday Tasting - South Italy Flavor
Wines from Campania

Campania, on the southeastern Italian coast (the “shin” of the boot, as it were), is famous for many things — the Amalfi coast, the archeological sites of Pompeii and Herculaneum, Capri, Napoli, and James Bond occasionally engaging in car chases. However, it is also a region that sports wonderful wines.

Campania is a hilly region, drenched in sun, enjoying hot summers and mild winters. The sea breezes keep things from getting too hot to impede grape production. Much of the soil is clay and limestone, but there’s also volcanic soil, especially around Mt. Vesuvius. For reds, look for Piedirosso and, of course, Aglianico. For white grapes, look for Fiano, Greco, and Falanghina.

Tonight, guest pourer Jose Perea from distributor Le Storie Wines returns to sample you on some wines from Campania. This is another of our fabulous, free walk-up tastings. Please join us any time between 5:00 and 6:30 PM.

Thursday Tasting: The Rice is Nice!

This Thursday, we set aside the beers to return to the world of nihonshu - more commonly known in the U.S. as sake! Please join us anytime between 5:00-6:30 for our free walk-up tasting.

Beer of the Week! - 'Tis the Season for a VA IPA Classic!
Alewerks Bitter Valentine

Normally $14.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96 (16.9 oz can four-pack)
Hazy DIPA 8.3% ABV)

Generously hopped with Citra, Simcoe, Columbus, Zythos, and Galaxy hops (and sporting our favorite label so far!) the Bitter Valentine is one of the classic Virginia IPAs — a seasonal event from Williamsburg’s Alewerks Brewing Company for years now.

Clean, off-dry malt is the background for a lovely mix of citrus, pine resin, and tropical fruit. It’s a great bridge between the classic American craft IPAs and the modern juicy brews.

Thursday Tasting -- Sake Tasting
The Rice is Nice!

This Thursday, we set aside the beers to return to the world of nihonshu — more commonly known in the U.S. as sake! Please join us any time in the hour and a half for this free, walk-up tasting.

(”Sake” is the Japanese word for alcohol in general. “Nihonshu” translates to “Japanese alcohol,” and is the term the Japanese use for the drink that we (inspecifically) call “sake.”)

Wine of the Week: Our Favorite Lambrusco!
Lini 910 Labrusca Lambrusco Rosso

Normally $21.99 /
Now on Sale for $17.96

85% Lambrusco Salamino 15% Ancellotta (Emilia-Romagna IGP)

Four generations after 1910, the Lini family is still running our favorite Lambrusco winery in northeastern Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region. They sparkle this wine using the Charmat Method, and one of the things that distinguishes Lini is their dedication to longer than normal secondary fermentation times to allow the bubbles to more fully incorporate into the wine.

You think Lambrusco and you think, “sweet,” but Lini’s lambruscos are more off-dry than sweet. Plum-like and blackberry fruits mix with citrusy acid to make a savory treat.

Wednesday Tasting: New York’s Finger Lakes!

New York State is the major U.S. wine region you may not know about it. Though California and Washington State produce the most American wines, New York state is … third. Yes, third. (Virginia is eighth, tied with Vermont and Kentucky. Who knew?)

Join us from 5:00-6:30 with guest pourer Nik Vukaj from for our free walk up tasting!

Basic City Advance

Normally $14.99 /
Now on Sale for $13.96 (16.9 oz can four-pack)
Hazy West Coast Style IPA (7.2% ABV)

This is a stunning IPA from Basic City as it features a fun and vibrant hop flavor!

Basic City double dry-hops this IPA and then leaves it unfiltered after having hopped it with West Coast superstars Cascade, Citra, and your favorite hop blend, Falconer’s Flight.

( Drink it cold but not ice cold, to really get into the hop flavor cavalcade!)

The Finger Lakes!

New York State is the major U.S. wine region you may not know about it. Though California and Washington State produce the most American wines, New York state is … third. Yes, third. (Virginia is eighth, tied with Vermont and Kentucky.)

New York State has two major wine growing regions — the North Folk of Long island and the Finger Lakes up around Syracuse and Rochester. In the Finger Lakes, look for cool climate grapes like Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Pinot Noir, and, of course, Riesling.

Come join us this Wednesday with guest pourer James Kutemyer from distributor Lanterna Distributors for a sampling of wines from the Finger Lakes!

Wine of the Week: Palermo White
Baglio di Pianetto Timeo Grillo

Normally $20.99 /
Now on Sale for $16.96
100% Grillo (Sicily DOC)

Baglio di Pianetto organically grows these grapes in southern facing vineyards just south of Palermo, sitting just under 2,000 feet above sea level.

After giving this wine some air, what we get is a keen balance between that deep grillo citrus fruit and the zippy acid woven together.

Local winemaker Riaan Rossouw’s Pinotage is in!

Pinotage is a cross between Pinot Noir and Cinsaut. The smoke and bramble you would expect from the Cinsaut side of gene pool is balanced by a delicious, velvety cherry of its Pinot Noir parent.

Riaan is a small batch producer and we are always excited to get what we can of his skilled wines. Grab your bottle before they run out!
