From their handful of sites, Blenheim focuses on growing healthy fruit so that they can be minimalistic in the cellar. Nothing stays in barrel for more than a year, with the goal being to make fruit forward, approachable wines that are drinkable when young.
We’ve been fans of Blenheim since their opening. This Wednesday, you have a chance to see the reason for our dedication.
Come join guest pourer Tracey Love, Director of Sales, Event, and Marketing at Blenheim Vineyards as we get vocal about one of our favorite locals.

Special Book Signing and Tasting Tonight!
Wine writer and sommelier Kelli A. White!
Kelli White loves how wine can bring brilliancy to a meal, express an area’s or people’s cultural heritage, or defuse the day’s stresses with one well-timed, much loved glass. It breaks her heart to think that wine’s history, details, and baggage of pretension keep people from these things. Her latest book, Wine Confident: There Is No Wrong Way to Enjoy Wine throws a well-aimed cork at those anxieties.
Tonight, Kelli A. White will be here, doing what she does best -- talking about her book and talking about wine.
Don’t miss this extra special walk-up tasting — 5:00 PM - 6:30 PM at Market St. Wine!

Friday Tasting - The Great Northwest
Wines of Oregon
In 1847, Henderson Luelling trudged up the Trail, bringing fruit cuttings with him from Iowa … including grapes. It was only five years later that Swiss immigrant Peter Britt established the Pacific Northwest’s first winery. Oregon winemaking had begun.
This Friday, please join guest pourer Robert Crum from distributor Roanoke Valley Wine Company as we offer samples of Oregon wine. This tasting is a free walk-up tasting from 5:00-6:30 PM that you don’t have to walk the Oregon Trail to get to.

Thursday Beer Tasting - Heavenly Ales
Annual Trappist Ale Tasting
One of St. Benedict’s core monastic tenets is "ora et labora” (“prayer and work”). Monks and nuns are meant to pray and occupy themselves with manual labor. Another tenet is the dedication to good works. Thus monasteries grew to make goods that were beneficial to their surrounding communities — clothes, bread, cheese, etc. Since monasteries were already making beer for their own use — as it was a staple of household diets — it didn’t take much for Trappist monasteries to develop a tradition of commercial brewing. Today, there are only thirteen Trappist breweries in the world, and the Trappist beers from Belgium, in particular, are some of the finest beers in the world.
Please join us this Thursday for a quartet of Trappist beers. This is a free, walk-up tasting. Feel free to come by any time in the hour and a half.

Beer of the Week - The Tripel End
Unibroue La Fin du Monde
Normally $12.99 / Now on Sale for $11.96
Abbey Tripel
When Unibroue in Chambly, Québec first released the La Fin du Monde (World’s End) in 1994, it was the first abbey Tripel commercially brewed on this continent. Bottled conditioned, like its Belgian forbearers, there are notes of coriander that set it squarely in the sub-group of spiced Tripels. It is rich and flavorful without overwhelming you with either body or taste. Still, take note; this ale is not a quiet and small beer!
One of the world’s great Tripels, fortunately we don’t have to travel to the world’s end to enjoy some.

Wine Wednesday - Vino Italiano!
Wine from Italy
Italy is one of those European countries which (for now) sit entirely in the grape growing sweet zone. Its location allows them to have wine regions up and down the Apennine Peninsula and out into its surrounding islands. As a result, it has a wine culture as diverse as its internal cultures.
This Wednesday, join guest pourer Gregory Beigle from distributor Banville Wine Merchants for a selection of Italian wines from Lombardy to Puglia. We look forward to seeing you at this free walk-up tasting. Please stop by any time in the hour and a half.

Wine of the Week: California Rhône-ing!
Bonny Doon Le Cigare Volant
61% Grenache, 20% Syrah, 15% Cinsault, 4% Petite Sirah
(Central Coast AVA)
Normally 20.99 / On Sale for 16.96
The fruit for the Le Cigare Volant is grown in several plots in the Central Coast AVA. Its majority of Grenache comes from cold Central Coast climes that provide long growing seasons, giving a “spicy, peppery quality” to the grape. These qualities are countered by the plumpness of the Cinsault.
Bonny Doon ages the wine in stainless steel before bottling it just ten months after harvest to retain the freshness of this fruitopic medium-bodied red.

Beer of the Week - Väsen Hop Subtlety
Väsen Fulla
Normally $16.99 / Now on Sale for $15.96
Hazy IPA
Motueka is a New Zealand hop that works well as both an aroma hop and flavor hop. It rides between citrus notes and tropical fruit notes and can be equally at home in lagers as in IPAs. Nelson Sauvin is another New Zealander. One of our favorite “odd child” hops, it famously gives off white wine grape flavors. Of course, Citra is there for all your citrus joys.
So, what happens when Väsen gets these three different hops playing in the same sandbox? Well, the Fulla is a dry hazy IPA with citrus notes dominating, while a quiet play of juiciness goes on underneath. It’s such a smooth, quiet beer — a challenge of hop subtlety — you can almost miss how good it is.

Wine of the Week: A Different Side of French Chardonnay
Cellier Saint Sever Prochaine Chardonnay
Normally $16.99 / Now on Sale for $14.96
100% Chardonnay (Vin de Pays Languedoc)
The Prochaine (“Next”) Chardonnay is made specifically for southern VA distributor Roanoke Valley Wine Company, a result of a casual conversation between RVWC’s owner and the winemaker. For the Prochaine, the winemaker takes the lees from his Viognier and rests the Chardonnay grapes on them. This trick pushes the fruit of this warm climate Chardonnay to a next level. Still, enough acid remains around the edges to give the wine structure.
Whereas cold climate Chardonnay (such as in Burgundy) can be acidic and have a citrus edge, warmer climate Chardonnay (like this one from Languedoc) is less acidic and sports riper, rounder fruit notes. In this form, this grape in the Languedoc is the grape behind a number of prominent Vin de Pays whites.
