Patricia Green was a legend in Oregon. Maybe not that many people knew about her outside Oregon, but within the community of Pinot Noir winemakers, Patty was someone you listened to because she knew so much. While she did some great stuff putting Torii Mor on the map, when she opened her own place in 2000, she was free to make even more amazing wines. Okay, there’s a lot of wonderful Pinot in Oregon, but Patty Green rises far above the field.

Patty Green left us too soon in 2017, but her legacy as one of the most gifted winemakers in the world of Oregon Pinot Noir lives on through her business partner Jim Anderson.

I’ve never had a bad Pinot from Patricia Green, but their Anderson Family Vineyard bottling is next level. Up until we were able to cut this deal, I had only even seen a bottle a handful of times.

What's the full story on this wine?

The beautiful Château de la Roche Bousseau was constructed in 1433, though much of it was destroyed after the French Revolution and rebuilt thereafter. Vines were planted in 1791 and have grown to almost 200 acres of Chenin Blanc and the other usual Loire Valley grapes.

Chenin creates a simple enough wine in most places, but in Anjou the grape offers wines that can be complex, complete and exciting - and this wine has that in spades. It also doesn't hurt that the bottle is in some beautiful etched glass, and the label is pure awesomeness.

We guarantee everything we sell (if you ever don't like something you can bring it back for any reason and we will either give you store credit or a full refund - your choice), but I'm not sure I've ever been as sure about a white wine as I am about this one!

For the first time since March of 2023, the Belle Glos Clark & Telephone blind tasting has returned due to overwhelming demand (who doesn't love blind tastings?!?!?)

Like we have said many times before, if you don't know the price, can't see the label, and can't hear someone barking in your ear about the wine's "score," then all that is left is the juice and your taste buds. It's a scary proposition for any winemaker. That's why you have marketing departments that design catchy labels, create campaigns to build a wine's image, and spend all of their time and energy essentially trying to convince consumers that a wine is great. The biggest sale we run every spring is Benières for $9.99, and the day has finally arrived.

Benières Pinot Noir, which you all have gobbled up to the tune of more than 238,000 bottles (that is a lot of wine) in the last 48 months, is a staple in my house and now - more than ever - the type of value it is delivering is a very welcome thing for me.

First off, TGIF...am I right?

Second, I can tell you without one ounce of hesitation in my body that this will be the greatest bottle of Bordeaux you are ever going to try for $25.00...and it is one that can even last 40 years.

People tell you all the time that only the most expensive wines can go that distance...and those people are wrong.

I will challenge anyone reading this to find better quality Bordeaux for less than $75 per bottle. I’d even put this wine up against Bordeaux I’ve tasted in the $150-$250 per bottle range. No joke.

Saint-Émilion is the oldest area of Bordeaux and its Roman ruins are a frequent reminder. Still, when the region was getting codified, Saint-Émilion was left out – it was sleepy and nearly forgotten. That changed in the 1990s when the garagiste movement of tiny Saint-Émilion wineries started making stunning, trend-setting wines. So the “Old” Jacques Bertrand Estate of Chateau Carteau is both Old School and modern all at the same time.

Chateau Carteau is a very typical Saint-Émilion blend of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon and it sees a bit more new oak than is typical at this price point. Half new and half one-year-old barrels generate more spice and weight in the mouth and, in a vintage like 2022, that is just right.

Also, just to celebrate all things awesome like wines like this, we'll have it on the tasting machine at all 9 stores through Sunday for only $0.01. Because we love you, and that's how we roll.

That said, the main goal here was to marry a traditional and elegant French style of winemaking while highlighting some of the vibrant complexity you find in larger reds from the Languedoc - and Beuchottes accomplishes that in spades.

Things I love include Pinot Noir, and great wines priced nearly half the price of a twice baked potato the grocery charged me for the other day. (Seriously, what is going on out there with grocery prices??)

I mean it kinda makes me chuckle as I was reading the latest issue of Wine Spectator just yesterday and they were discussing the best value wines in the world...and all the "value" wines were like $30 and $40 per bottle.

Ummmmm....no.

Value is surely relative, but value is $9.99 - not $39.99.

What makes this wine in particular such a great value?

We might presume that most of the top Old World sites are multi-generational legacies, remaining in the hands of ossified aristocrats served by dedicated minions. I suppose that’s true in some places. But most of the exciting things happen in Europe are the result of new blood; new folks like Joséphine and Frédéric Arnaud who took over this property in 1995. Northwest of Châteauneuf-du-Pape, the Arnauds have more than 200 acres of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, the latter a grape that has only, in the last two or three decades, become more typical of Côtes du Rhone blends.

Again, it helps to add some new blood to these old places...especially ones that want to specialize in high quality wines that everyone can enjoy!

We will have the wine on the tasting machine all week for only $0.01 per taste - just so you can see what all the fuss is about!

The snow to wine index has been deployed for the first time in a long time, and it appears everyone needs to get moving.

Most of our stores are clearly in a 3 bottle zone. All of Charlotte, Asheville, Chapel Hill, Morrisville, Raleigh. Man oh man 😂

Dunwoody is squarely in a two bottle situation, but why stop there...

Wilmington appears to be in a one bottle scenario, but honestly at this point who can say for sure.

All this said - we know one thing for sure. We will be drinking wine this evening 😂

Even though our stores are closed today, each New Year's Day we do a one day sale on our website to ring in the new year - and the catch is the wine has to be offered at our lowest price EVER. That's right...one time only, to kick of the new year right, lowest price we will ever offer.

So to say goodbye to 2024 and welcome in hopefully a wonderful 2025, we are offering one of our favorites for an absolutely silly price of $19.99 (I'm getting fired up just writing this!)

We tasted this wine for the first time last year and absolutely loved it, and our love seemed to be matched by you guys as the first week it landed, I watched two customers buy straight cases of it after just tasting it on the machine.

Flying overseas to find wines like this has really transformed some of our offerings as of late. We’ve opined many times recently that the quality level of our $25-$75 collectible offerings has never been higher, and the value we currently have in store between $20 and $60 I would put up against anyone in the US right now. We used to be at the mercy of our distributors and importers, all of which offer a relatively limited selection of wines compared to what is available globally. Being able to find something like Pontey Lamartine Pessac, and be able to offer it for $19.99 per bottle, just gets me really excited.

It has become a tradition here that we take a moment at the end of each year just to say THANK YOU.

As we approach our 19th Birthday (is this real life?!?), we want to just reiterate how truly appreciative we are of you spending your hard earned dollars with us over the last 12 months and we hope to continue to earn your business as we enter 2025.

We are humbled by the opportunity to serve each and every one of you, and we don't take it for granted.

Inflation and rising prices continued to be buzzwords in 2024, and we are proud to tell you less than 0.5% of all our products saw price increases this year. Our commitment to everyday low prices means we work tirelessly with our suppliers to keep prices down...and we are going all in on our efforts in 2025. Our goal is price decreases!

Know this...here at winestore. you will always be getting the absolute highest quality product at the lowest prices in North Carolina and Georgia, each and every time. We will treat your money as if it was our own, and give you 5 star service each and every time.

All that said, we are always striving to get better, so if you have any suggestions on how we can improve please write to us (e-mail is in original post), and let us know the one or two things you think we really need to add to our service offerings, to change, to overhaul - anything at all (heck, even if you just have some positive feedback). Many suggestions from the year end suggestion box have been implemented over the last several years. Everything from name tags, updated hours, and process changes....the customer knows best, and we are listening.
