When the temps get over 95 degrees this wine starts to move like lightning, but when the temps get that high AND we put it on sale for $6.99 it is basically a perfect storm. There is just something about an ice cold, crisp, dry white wine on a warm summer afternoon that hits just right 😁

(If we're being honest it also hits just right like at 8pm on the couch watching the latest episode of that Dallas Cowboys Cheerleader Documentary on Netflix (it's all anyone is talking about!), but it can work any which way!)

So why do we love this wine so much?

The Comte Tolosan region is a defined area (the wine trade calls them IGPs or Géographique Protégée) that encompasses famed wine regions: Jurancon, Cahors and Armagnac, but the wines so named are either blends of the better-known areas or blends that include wines from outside those spots though still in Southwest France. Typically, the white wines are based upon neutral grapes like Ugni Blanc, Colombard, and F***e Blanche, or more aromatic grapes like Petit Manseng or Gros Manseng. While few of these grapes have distinctive personalities, if you put them into a harmonious blend (like we have here), they can be really charming and waaaaaaaaaay over deliver for the price point.

So leave work a little early today, grab a bottle, and start the "weekend" right. Wednesday is the start of the weekend, right? 😂

Reminder we open at 9am Thursday - Saturday!

It is way too hot not to feature our single best selling summertime rosé - which happens to be on sale for $7.99 per bottle.

My father in law said yesterday that he ordered a sandwich at Jersey Mike's. After the meal price, and the random tip they ask for at the register point of sale screen, the total came to over $15.

Things have officially gotten out of control.

That's why I am glad there are wines like SWIMBAD in the world. I can basically get two bottles of delicious rose, that will float in the ocean with me while I try to keep cool, all for apparently less than a sandwich at Jersey Mike's. Also know this - we will never ask you for a tip at the cash register. Full stop.

What do we know about SWIMBAD Rosé?

- The wine is delicious, and at this price point, it is right in my budget sweet spot.
- The PET bottle is perfect for all things summertime. It can't break (I literally tested it and threw one across the parking lot - and yes some people gave me a look 😳), and it fits perfectly in a cooler for the beach, lake or right by the pool.
- It also fits well in beach bags, swimsuit pockets, and in a koozie (yeah, I tried it...you never know, right?)

I'm chilling one for late this afternoon, and cruising into the evening!

The dirty little secret in the wine business is that there is relatively little difference in the vinification methods between $25 wines and $250 wines…sometimes you’re just paying for overhead.

So anytime we come across a co-op that has access to some insane vineyard sites, uses top flight barrels, and yet keeps prices reasonable - we’re gonna take a hard look. Some of the best wines in the world started as a Co-op. Ever heard of Clos Erasmus or L’Ermita? 👀

Enter Vignerons de Saint Marc - Canteperdrix.

We tasted some of their lineup back in 2023, and the Vinsobres and Vacqueyras were absolute show stoppers. I mean, the others were really good - but these two were really good.

So now layer in the fact that we absolutely LOVE a good deal, and we can't help ourselves when it comes to lowering prices. That means we can get this bottle of wine to you - a bottle of wine that Vivino says has an avg purchase price of over $49 - we can get it to you for $17.99 per bottle.

I'm not going to say anymore. This is one of those where you just say "yes".

We ready?

Should we kick off the "feature wine" set for our July 4th Specials with an absolute show stopper?

I think yes.

Last year we told you that Domaine Lerys "Tradition" would be one of the best sub $15 wines you would try in 2023. I think you all agreed based on sales - but now we can bring this to you for the first time ever at $9.99 per bottle...and cue the fireworks!!

What's up with the wine?

The family estate Domaine Lérys was founded in 1861 in Villeneuve les Corbières, with vineyards planted on steep schist soils, not such a different landscape from what you find in Spain’s Priorat. In that rough and difficult Spanish place, plants struggle for survival, but Fitou is a bit gentler a place.

The rocks naturally limit excessive competition for the vines, and yields are naturally limited, but it’s not as dry and demanding an environment as Priorat, and the Rhone grapes like Carignan, Grenache and Syrah grown in Fitou are more generous than they are burly. The Lerys Tradition bottling combines 60% Carignan (tangy and almost cranberry like) with dense and deep Grenache.

At $9.99 per bottle I'm taking 6 home - because these are the types of wines that get me super excited. Proof positive that excellent quality and affordable prices are not mutually exclusive!

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Only 112 cases available for all of North Carolina and Georgia until 2025 👀

Summer is in full swing, and that's about the right time for our only Sancerre Rosé of the season to hit!

Sancerre is tough to come by these days. A mix of insane demand, tough growing conditions and the French just wanting to keep it all for themselves, has made it almost impossible to find great, affordable Sancerre in the US.

That said, Domaine des Cotes Blanches has come to our rescue!

The Millet family, the ninth generation owners of this domaine, have long produced Pinot Noir and Pinot Noir Rosé. Among the “white hills”, or “cotes blanches” are also areas of gaillottes, sun-catching warm stones and slate that allow ripening of this delicate grape. In their hands, the grape is fragrant, gentle, and elegant. As with the Millet family’s Sauvignon Blanc, the method is modern: keep the grapes as clean and consistent as possible, ferment in stainless steel at low temperatures and enjoy the wine’s generosity.

I had a bottle of this on Father's Day and while this may not be at my everyday price point, I can imagine nothing finer for a weekend wine with friends on a warm summer day. There is just something about Sancerre, rosé, warm weather, and good people that when they all come together something magical just happens.

Sad part is though that there are only 112 cases of this wine available until next year, so get while the gettin' is good. July 4th is right around the corner!!

We are officially pulling out all the stops here. We've got the largest number of wines we've ever offered on sale, and many at the lowest prices that have ever been offered.

I'm almost giddy thinking about it.

Memorial Day Weekend is a time to give thanks to those who have given their life to serve our country. It's the weekend that kicks off summer, and rings in the end of the school year. Pools open and grills fire up. Kids get ready for camp. Life is good, right?

So this week we're gonna be playing songs like this song on repeat in the store (seriously, that song is my fave - first time you hear it by the pool it means summer is here!), while we're also rolling out our largest Memorial Day Sale ever, with prices that hit the wallet just right.

Some of the gems below we have never marked down to these prices, and a few have very limited availability.

As always, thank you for your business. We continue to be humbled by the opportunity to serve you. We sincerely appreciate it!

How about a little excitement this Friday? Not the type of excitement Scottie Scheffler had this morning, but still exciting nonetheless...

How about the 24th highest rated 2021 Chardonnay in the world from Vinous for only $34.99?

We’re talking higher ratings than some of the top Montrachet coming from Burgundy 👀

Release price on the this 2021 Amelia Chardonnay was $70.00 per bottle. Lowest price online on the 2021 is $49.16 - BUT they require you to buy 12 bottles to get that price.

We have the wine for $34.99 per bottle - and as always, no minimums.

We don’t often tell you about Chilean Chardonnay. If we’re being honest, we don’t really tell you a lot about Chilean wine. This is actually the only one we currently carry. In our search for the highest quality products at the world’s best prices, a lot of the stuff coming out of Chile tends to miss the mark. Not this wine. Not by a long shot.

Ever since the Casablanca region popped up on our radar, Chardonnay has been often good, but rarely great. This may be the best example of why some Chilean Chardonnay deserves your attention; it has some of the buttery character of California Chardonnay but it’s far more balanced and citrusy than 90% of California’s output.

Single vineyard Chardonnay aged in French oak and scoring north of 96 points for less than $35 - as far as I can tell - simply doesn’t exist anywhere. So take from that what you will…

We have 300 six packs that are sealed in wood (you can see the box in the picture above) - but as noted above, you can buy as little or as much as you would like.

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

How does a wine become the #15 best selling wine in the entire store so far in 2024 and we have not even mentioned in a newsletter once?

It happens when people try it, and then keep buying it over and over and over again.

Have your friends been keeping it a secret?!?!

What's the story behind the wine?

Throughout the last two centuries of winedom, French wine has been aged in French oak. Or has it? In the 19th century, French forests, planted for warships, were plentiful enough for barrels too. In the early 20th century, barrels made from Eastern European oak became more common, especially after WWI decimated French forests. But they were replanted with purpose; the barrel industry returned and has dominated the idea of top flight wine ever since. Yet, American oak is crucial to many other wine regions: Spain, Australia, the U.S., maybe even Silver Oak (they love that vanilla smell). So this is a southern French Cab with American oak’s lashing of coconut and sawdust – the classic aromas of American oak barrels.

Maybe think Silver Oak from France, but only costs $9.99?

See what all the fuss is about!

How about a deal on a nice bottle for this weekend? Or even for tonight?

The winner of one of our Silver Oak Blind Tastings (and winner by not a small margin :), Round Pond Rutherford Estate Cabernet really is something else.

I honestly can’t tell you why there is not more noise about Round Pond wines. They’re legitimately serious Napa wines. It’s a second-generation wine estate in Rutherford with more than 350 acres of central Napa Valley vineyards, along with 5 acres of organic gardens, 12 acres of olive orchards, and one of the only two olive mills in the region, all from a family dedicated to sustainable farming and production. Before the winery opened in 1983, they used their substantial vineyard lands to supply many other, more celebrated wineries (all the big names you know).

This blend of 94% Cabernet Sauvignon, 4% Petit Verdot, 2% Syrah offers the best possible example of what Round Pond is accomplishing that is so incomparable and indescribable.

As always, THANK YOU for your business.

We hope you enjoy this wine! Is it the weekend yet?

Reminder we open at 9am Thursday - Saturday!

It's gonna be May!

When the new vintage of your best selling rosé comes back in stock, and it's May 1st, you just have to celebrate, don't you?

I get why we all love it so much...I mean, the wine is delicious...and at the sale price of $9.99 it is just a silly value.

Why is the wine so special?

Well, if you stick around the wine business long enough, you’ll have seen it all. Where once wine coolers were cooler than Liebfraumilch, now hard seltzer is hot (served cold). White Zin was once de rigeur, though it was never French; it was from the good ol’ US of A. But then that became too sweet and the category died. Or seemed to. Because then rosé rose up like a zombie eager for fresh meat, though the current iteration of the pink stuff is more often French than not. Provence is the epicenter of it and the French have figured out how we like it: dry, pale pink, light and refreshing.

Larme has all this and more in spades.

$9.99 per bottle. 5 days only.

So lets get to it! Happy Wednesday all!

THE rosé of summer 2023 is back for a repeat performance...so let the feeding frenzy begin.

Anecdotally I can tell you that after one glass my wife declared that this is the only rosé she is going to be drinking all summer...and that was before I even told her the price!

So what is the deal here?

Last year, when we learned that the winery behind white wine value superstar Bleu Blanc Thau also made a rosé, we had to try it. So we did...and it was amazing (these guys are good).

Then we found out the price...and folks, this is a back up the truck type of situation if there ever was one!

The south of France has been home to a sea of vines for centuries, though its heyday was the late 19th century after the newly built railroad allowed shipments to fill the carafes of Parisian cafes. Cotes de Thau is gaining notoriety for its rosé wines grown beneath the former volcano of Agde, with a mix of garrigue, sand, nearby sea and lagoons. The Bleu Blanc Thau Rosé is a blend of Cinsault and Merlot made in a crisp, clean, even racy style of pink wine.

So if rosé is your thing (and in the spring and summer it is definitely my thing), you'll want to jump on this bandwagon.

The only real hiccup here is that only 224 cases come into North Carolina per YEAR. So get while the gettin' is good!

I know what I'm drinking tonight! TGIF!

I could not be more into Picpoul right now (read more about that grape here). It dominates the white wine selections in my home at the moment.

Here’s what you should know about Picpoul: it’s never bad, sometimes good...and then every now and again you stumble across one like this, that is really something special.

Let’s think about this for a second: lots of grapes (I’m looking at you, Pinot Noir) are sometimes good, rarely great and often dull. So there’s a lot to be said for grapes that never stink. Just saying, though I haven’t usually cared about Picpoul. But I want to be clear about my POV; about the time I decided I was no longer going to think about the Picpoul grape and didn’t think it could age, I tasted a Picpoul de Pinet that was six years old and it was utterly delicious. That’s the thing about wine: if you’re paying attention, you’re constantly learning how little you know.

So, this is a long-winded, sideways recommendation for this wine 😂

If crisp, dry and delicious white wine is your thing, and it definitely is mine, this deserves a place in your rotation.

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Our 2024 rosé release train is running at full speed, and 2nd up for this season is perennial favorite Balcon Sur La Mer.

Let's set aside for the moment that I love the package, and it kinda transports me to some place I'd like to go for vacation but I'm not quite sure I can afford 😂

Balcon has all the things we love about dry rosé. It delivers everything you want in spades. This unctuous pink wine is dry, stony, fruity, lengthy. Comprised of Grenache, Grenache Gris and Mourvedre, there’s a lot more here than many a rosé that you’ve tasted before.

Oh, and it's $9.99. I have to be honest - the more and more I see rosé prices out there in the marketplace, it makes me happy to think some producers still want to churn out ultra high quality, affordable hits!

So I'm gonna open a bottle this weekend, or maybe two. Who are we kidding, I'm buying a six pack. 🤣

Let's get to this!! TGIF!

I'm gonna cut to the chase here...

I think Bleu Blanc Thau at the sale price of $7.99 may be the best white value and one of the best overall value wines in the store...and in a world where bacon costs $12.99 at the grocery store value is what I am looking for!

Many of you know it as the blue top wine, the wine with fish on the label, BBT, or many other names we've heard it called - but one thing is for certain...people are calling for it every day!

What's up with the wine?

We found the Vivarés brothers from Cotes de Thau – you’ve probably not heard of it but it’s the hilly coastal part of Languedoc in Mediterranean France. They live in Pézenas, which you should visit someday because it’s the charming birthplace of France’s greatest playwright, Molière. Robert Vivarés has a B&B with a fine restaurant and Paul travels the world for his business tasting a lot of wines. They needed a house wine that reflected the place where they grew up. So they blended Picpoul and Terret Blanc from the hills around them and called it Bleu Blanc and its straight up silly value.

Happy Wednesday!

This wine arrived middle of last year and quickly entered our Top 25 best sellers.

What really blew us away about this stat is that we realized we have not one time sent a newsletter out about this wine. It just took off on its own - as many of the most delicious wines do...

Domaine Julien de l'Embisque, which has been organically farmed for many years, owns a diversity of terroirs throughout the southern Rhône Valley. They grow most of the diverse grape varieties of the valley too: Grenache, Syrah, Carignan, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Marselan and a little known grape called Couston for the reds, and Viognier, Grenache Blanc, Muscat á Petit Grain and Muscat d'Alexandre for the whites.

The entire estate is surrounded by forest and interspersed with hedges. All this creates an ecosystem that allows them to farm without any use of insecticides. This 100% Viognier showcases everything their estate is about - and you have the added bonus of being the only people in the United States with access to this wine!

I've said it many times over the last several months, but never before have we had such an insane amount of depth and breadth in our sub $15 wine offerings. This wine is a prime example of what we're talking about. Just in case you don't believe us, we'll have it on the tasting machine now through Sunday for only $0.25 per taste...because we wouldn't want you to miss out on all the fun. 😁

Not sure about you, but I know what I'm drinking tonight! Let's do this!

I feel like Masters week is the official start to rosé season.

I mean, yes, rosé is a year round beverage - but this week kicks off the end of Spring Break and the push towards summer, warm weather is (hopefully) here to stay, and people just seem to be celebrating the end of winter.

So every Friday in April we're putting our brand new rosé arrivals ON SALE to celebrate all things the pink drink.

First up?

In my opinion maybe THE "if you know, you know" rosé is La Culottée. (made by the same people that make Prejuges and Le Batard that we told you about yesterday!).

This 100% Caladoc wine (what is Caladoc? It's a hybrid grape that is a cross between Grenache and Malbec) is barrel-fermented, though it is still recognizably rosé in style.

Needless to say, barrel-fermented rosé is anomalous anywhere, much less in southern France. The barrels are over-sized, and the wine has no added sulfur or added yeast. Dry, clean and perfect when served chilled on a sunny day, just like you would the rest of the rosés you’re slamming this summer.

Things I love about this wine include:
- The grape is unqiue and cool
- Organic and no added sulfites for those of you into such things
- The color is insanely gorgeous, and the picture does not do it justice
- The wine itself is delicious

Burgundy is a tricky place to buy wine.

If you want to spend a small fortune, you can do that, and if you choose carefully, you will get something great. A rather large dose of luck is required as well, since it might be a great wine that isn’t ready to drink.

White Burgundy can be a little more predictable; buy from the right name and you’re solid. Unless you wait too long to drink it and it develops premature oxidation (premox, it’s called, but we can save that for another day).

But move down the ladder to the Bourgogne Rouges and Blancs and things become far more assured. Take this thirty-seven-acre estate down in the Maconnais where the family has been producing wines for four generations. At this price, you’re not risking too much and in fact winemaker Jean-Philippe Prétet creates elegant, pretty Pinot Noir from his twenty-five-year-old vines. No trickiness, only treats.

I know what I'm drinking tonight!

Happy Tuesday All! (Pro tip - this wine is so much better if you throw it in the fridge for 15-30 min before drinking 😁)

Domaine Vellas has been on quite the tear as of late.

They seemed to have hit a sweet spot of producing delicious wine, developing incredible packaging and pricing their wines so aggressively that it has people all over the wine world talking.

Up until last fall, the one area that remained unconquered for them was Pinot Noir.

Everybody talks about how difficult Pinot Noir is to grow but, to be honest, it’s not that hard to grow it. It’s just hard to make it taste like Pinot Noir, rather than a generic red wine. You’ve got to grow it in a nice place where things cool off at night, as happens in this little spot of the Languedoc, protected from the afternoon sun.

The thing about this Pinot Noir release from Vellas is that maybe it won’t change your world, but it will taste like Pinot Noir that makes you want to drink some more - and at $12.99 per bottle that is something I need more of in my life!

I would love more producers (and this doesn't just apply to wine) to be showing me how they are able to push the boundaries of high quality and low prices.

Too often right now I feel like we are all getting hit with the exact opposite of that out in the world marketplace - we're getting low quality products pushed on us at every turn, at prices that make my head spin! Nobody has time for that nonsense.

Kudos to the team at Domaine Vellas for bringing this to market. I took a six pack home to get it in the rotation as my new house wine!

You are the first people in the United States to get to see what may go down as one of the best glass bottles I have ever seen, matched with some super delicious red wine made by winemaking superstar Nicholas Vellas.

We first saw this bottle in February of 2023, and we have been waiting to get our allotment of this wine for an entire YEAR. Finally, it has arrived and we could not be more pumped to bring it to you.

Why do we love it so much (in addition to the glass?!) - a video of the bottle can be found here.

The wine is made from Syrah and Grenache in more or less equal proportions here, and this exhibits what makes Costières de Nimes an increasingly popular and important sub-region of the Rhone Valley. It benefits from the same Mediterranean sun and breezes, and the same limestone soils, as any other southern Rhone appellation.

But here's the catch - unlike so much Châteauneuf-duPape, this stuff is actually affordable!

To kick off March Madness, we'll have this on the tasting machine at all 8 stores for just $0.01 all weekend long.

TGIF y'all!

Let's do this!
