Thank you to Piggly Wiggly (Wisconsin & Illinois) for spending time with us for this Owner Spotlight. We are very fortunate to have such an amazing and dedicated staff to help us serve the Cedarburg, Mequon and Thiensville markets!
Meet Ryan and Megan, the proud owners of Cedarburg and Mequon Piggly Wiggly stores! Ryan's journey in the grocery industry started at the age of 7 when his father purchased the Red Owl in Cedarburg.
In 1991, Ryan's father seized the opportunity to acquire the Piggly Wiggly in town, marking the beginning of their legacy with the brand. Despite his deep-rooted involvement in the family business, Ryan pursued higher education at UW Milwaukee, graduating with a degree in marketing.
He returned to his roots in 2000 and worked diligently across every department, learning the ins and outs of the business. Ryan's dedication paid off when in 2012, he and his wife Megan officially became owners, following a well-planned transition period orchestrated with his parents.
In 2013 Megan stepped back from her Civil Engineering career. This allowed for the acquisition of the Mequon store. Megan played a crucial role setting up that location for success. She handled everything from HR onboarding to logistics. Megan has now returned to Civil Engineering, a career that she envisioned since childhood.
Ryan fosters a culture of creativity and empowerment among his employees, encouraging them to bring forth their ideas to better serve the customers. His leadership extends beyond the store walls, as he actively participates in community initiatives, serving on boards and contributing to charitable causes.
Ryan's commitment to excellence was recognized when he was awarded the 2024 Outstanding Independent Award by Progressive Grocer, a testament to his unwavering dedication to his craft and community.
Recently, Ryan revamped the bakery and deli, bringing a modern touch to the store and enhancing the shopping experience for customers.
When he's not busy at the store, Ryan enjoys hitting the slopes for some downhill skiing or spending quality time with his family, including his two boys.
