Good Morning....

While the rain Monday afternoon was welcome, the accompanying lightning strike at the Deli was not. We lost power for about 6 hours and most everything in the refrigerators.

GA Power spent (by "spent" I mean they charged the cost to we consumers) millions on Vogel to provide more power. Does us no good when we don't have it. I say they missed a golden opportunity to save us some money.....lightning rod comes to mind!!

Seriously. Preventing power loss (and we have more than our share with GP) could have been part of the quest and expense.

Okay, stopping now.....

Good Morning....

You know that garage that needed sweeping clean that's been mentioned before?? Throw-aways and donations are by the door. Cobwebs and dust are under control (for awhile!!) and walking through is no longer an obstacle course! I say, "yea."

The Deli is spiffy clean.....polished and organized. Floors cleaned. And waxed.

Even so....we did have some fun. And not being expected somewhere at a certain time is very relaxing. Great week. Hope y'all had one, too!

Trying to second-guess the public is always iffy! BUT....Vicki and I figured everyone will be leaving town Tuesday evening after work heading for the beach to enjoy the long holiday. So in anticipation of the exodus, we will close the Deli next week.

Good Morning....

On the way past our glass door, my attention was drawn to the deer "sailing" over the driveway gate into the back yard!!! She ambled toward the line of trees and shrubs deep in the yard and stayed for a couple of hours, just walking around and looking very unconcerned. It was about 11:30 in the morning....unusual, I think, for deer to be out and about...or not. Someone let me know!

So Vicki and I were in Macon yesterday. Walking to our car, we heard a cat loudly meowing. It seemed to be coming from near a fenced area OR the car near the fenced area. Vicki tapped on the window and sure enough, no kitty IN the car. Lady stepped out, raised the hood, and we thought for sure we had found the hiding place. Nope! Vicki crawled under the car with a flashlight, found and recovered a tiny grey kitten from the tire well. Sweet baby!

Man stopped to offer help, and women from the office came out to watch the rescue. Great ending to this story. Kitty went home with someone from the office who wanted to adopt and decided grey kitty was the one....besides the kitty has blue eyes and so does his new person!!!

DON'T START VAST PROJECTS WITH HALF-VAST IDEAS."

Good Morning....

Nicest thing.....On Monday the ladies of the Garden Club presented us with a beautiful potted garden for contributions to the community. Feeding y'all counts! Thank you, Sweet Ladies...

Friend, Austin, arrived just in time Monday to hang the big lush blue and white baskets given to me for my birthday (thank you, Para!). We've been waiting out the changes in the weather....now we're sure Summer is here!! Besides the weight of the pots, the "reach" was way over my head!! So what else is new??

Vicki and I have already discussed how to water the hanging plants to avoid the birds' nests that are sure to arrive any minute! After those nests in the ferns a couple of Summers ago, she's become quite proficient. I can't reach to hang them nor water them!!!

While preparing the menu for this week, I settled on a couple of really nice pasta salads from my Mom's day gift, "Anything's Pastable." Then I checked with my young friend who keeps track of this sort of thing.....school's out Friday and the long weekend starts the mad trek to the beach!!

I think "slow" at the Deli this week. Of course, if I could predict what the public will do, I would sell the info and retire to the South. Wait. This is the South!!

Good Morning....

Friend sent this for giggles....Starbucks (or similar setting); two cows manning the coffee machine and the cash register; sign on the counter: "Thank You For Not Tipping." It may be too esoteric for some of you younger folks. Or it could still be a "right of passage" for the newcomer to town!! Need to investigate....

Mom's Day. Coffee, Jammies all day, new C. J. Box novel and a great cookbook: Anything's Pastable. (Courtesy of the sweet girl child!) Now you might imagine with that title, recipes loaded with the usual tomato sauce. Nope. He devotes two pages to some additives to jazz up jarred tomato pasta sauces. That's it! Everything else is way different....consider pasta with artichokes and preserved lemons. Went on a quest to find said lemons; did; dinner to follow! Calls from the boys and DIL. Great Mom's Day!!!

Good Morning....

May 4th. In Louisville, KY the first Saturday in May is the first leg of the Triple Crown, The Kentucky Derby. Big hats, Mint Juleps in silver cups (fresh mint, powdered sugar, KY Bourbon, lots of crushed ice....good friend once commented that it was a waste of good Bourbon!), singing "My Old KY Home", colorful jockeys, and magnificent horses.

May 4th. In Byron, GA the first Saturday in May is The Battle of Byron... a day of games, challenges, food and good fun! Main Street will be closed for the festivities, so folks walking down the middle of the street for this day is a good thing!! Come join the fun...no charge to enter.

Because there will be all manner of food trucks, the Deli will be closed on Saturday. Outside the Deli there will be the best boiled peanuts! Promise.

Left the house early (6:45 am) Monday morning on my way to Publix.....had a busy day and I wanted to get ahead of it all. Here's this week's wildlife tidbit. Deer crossing the street as I left the neighborhood. Not in any hurry....such beautiful animals.

Good morning....

No wildlife reports, eclipse viewing, or much of anything of import but a weekend of sunshine and fair weather!! Ya gotta love those!

Son, Adam, asked for some pictures of our Richmond, KY years to make a collage. I had so much fun going through the boxes of photos....of course, there are all those baby pics that makes a mother go "awww."

However, mailing them could be problematic with the Atlanta post office such a bottleneck. Mailed an envelope-sized package to my DIL and three + weeks later it arrived. So I think it's UPS for those photos.

Good Morning....

We were without glasses for the eclipse (none to be found in the usual places), but our neighbor came across the street and shared. Awesome! Vicki had heard on TV that letting the sun shine through a colander (back to the sun, please) would show the crescents and it worked!! I was most taken with the shadows on the ground being crescents....Awesome!

Wildlife report: kitchen window lizard is back. Full view of all 3 inches of him and little spread-toed feet. Went for the camera....but he's camera shy.

Time to clean up the garden and get ready for outdoor dining. Spring is here!

Good Morning....

No more snakes on the front porch, so we're good!!! I look, however, before venturing out.....

My cherry trees are leafing out, but we had more blooms this year than in years past. Driving here and there, I've seen some really glorious ones. When we lived in Macon, this time of year was such a treat.

Son, Joshua, said a couple of degrees difference and the rain in his local would have been LOTS of snow. I don't miss it!

Good Morning....

Two of my Tift College roomies & I meet in March to celebrate birthdays and just because! For a lot of years we've met in Forsyth at Grits Cafe. Monday was my "really" birthday. So we met again at Grits and Vicki joined in the fun!

Left the house last week on my way to the Deli. Locked the doorknob and pulled the door shut. Looking to my left, there appeared to be a piece of wrought iron on the table. While trying to process where the wrought iron would have come from.....it looked at me!!! Small black snake curled on the table!!!!

After what seemed to me a really dreary winter, color is back and gaining!! Tulip poplar, Confederate Jasmine, daffodils....I saw a huge tree bursting with new leaves that were burgundy colored. Really pretty. It will be cold some more, we know, but when Spring begins, it's wonderful!

How do the weekends speed by?? I had stuff I wanted to finish....well, I did do some of it. Separated the Fall & Christmas decorations from the Deli and home. Then I discovered that two of the boxes filled to the top and no lids. I've searched the garage...no extra lids! Still not finished with that chore. AND it's time to bring out the Spring stuff!!!

Good Morning....

I'm still exhausted from the game. The Chiefs needed a lot of tugging to get them over the goal line!!!! First half was "peewee" football.....second half and for sure the fourth quarter was pro football. Yea, Chiefs!

Purdy looks about ten, but his arm does not!! If the announcers had said one more time that he was the last pick....I was prepared to scream.

We have lakes and rivers after the rain. WOW!!

Good Morning...

It's early and I'm on my way to the Deli. Did some shopping and a bit of prep this weekend; and managed to be a bit lazy with a book at hand, too. Good weekend!

The book kept me from finishing the packing away of the holiday decorations. They are at least organized in one spot. The "spot" happens to be the living room! Good thing the "waller room" (as a friend calls it!!) is elsewhere.

Good Morning...

Eighteen lunches going out the door at 10:15 or so......so....the "extras" for the Deli will be on tomorrow's menu. And I need to get out the door to accomplish that feat!!

Good friend and frequent guest came in last week and asked for a "Dagwood" sandwich. You remember that one! Everything but the kitchen sink!! I remember making a few of those when we first opened (13 years ago!!) and then, we moved on to the Monster. Still a big sandwich, but a bit easier to manage.
