August Wines: World Traveler pt. 1 😉

First Red: Rocim ‘Mariana’ Tinto 2022 from the Lower Alentejo region in the Southern half of Portugal. This wine is a blend of Portuguese grapes Touriga Nacional, Tempranillo, Alicante Bouschet, and Trincadiera that are fermented in stainless steel and aged 6 months in French Oak. Think juicy dark fruits and baking spice.

2nd Red: Domaine La Grangette Cocoriko Piquepoul Noir. Dom. La Grangette is the only estate currently making a red, rosé, and white piquepoul grape variety. Light, bright and chillable, with notes of strawberry, pomegranate, white pepper and black tea make for the perfect backyard/riverside sipper.
Plus, a lovely customer just let us know that ‘Cocoriko’ is how you say ‘cock-a-doodle-doo’ in French ☺️

Our first white is the Botani Muscatel. A bright dry white made from 100% Muscat of Alexandria that trace back 2,600 years ago to Alexandria, Egypt. This is coming from Málaga, Spain, the vines are planted on reallllllllly steep mountainsides that are all hand harvested and packed in and out by mules. We could go on as to how cool this wine is, but you might have to come see for yourself. Mouthwatering, white with orange blossom, lime, and lychee notes. 🤤

Second white is the Serpentina, a blend from 🥁… Croatia!!! After many inquiries into Croatian wine, we finally have our first offering. This is Pošip, Trebbiano Toscano, and small amounts of Bogdanuša, Maraština, and Muscat. Beautifully textured with chopped green herbs, citrus, and almond skin notes, we are beyond excited to introduce you to this wine and we can’t stop daydreaming of being on the Dalmatian coast drinking all the wine and tasting the local fare 🏖️

Our Millenium is Once and Future ‘Oakley Road’ Zinfandel. The sandy soils inhibited phylloxera, which was key for these 100-plus-year-old, own rooted, unirrigated vines. The sandy soils also warm earlier in the season, growing season begins sooner and remains consistent with the balance of the cooling maritime winds. Picking earlier than most growers in the area, the wetsuit is elegant and silky smooth. Great for a special late-summer evening 🌄

Two special bottles of Sancerre from Claude and Stéphane Riffault.

Les Chailloux is located in the village of Sury-en Vaux, in Northwestern Sancerre. This area is unique due to it’s flinty soils that are more commonly found in Pouilly-Fumé and the eastern edge of Sancerre. Farming about 1-hectare (roughly 2.5 acres 😉), this wine displays a profoundly mineral, smoky, and tightly-wound wine capable of aging gracefully for many years.

Les Denisottes is coming from ‘terres blanches’ (clay with flat white limestone) soils that are deep and more pebbly than rocky- producing a richer style of Sancerre. This richness requires a longer élevage in barrels and possesses a greater capacity to age.

Just like that, our July Wine Club lineup is here!!
This month we are taking a trip to Austria with our first four wines and highlighting a Willamette Valley Pinot Noir that we couldn’t resist this summer season.

Our first red is Hermann Moser Zweigelt named ‘The Red Cherry’ 🍒for, you guessed it, red cherry notes on the forefront with a touch of blackberry. Think of it as a Pinot Noir with a bit more heft.

Our First White is a traditional Austrian Field Blend. is to thank for this bright, aromatic, dry white that will cool you right off on a hot summer’s day. This wine consists of about 15 different white grapes that her grandmother planted together in 1951, about half of which have been identified. ✨

For the second red, we have the Stadlmann Pinot Noir 2019 which comes from the northern sector of the Thermenregion, a chain of gentle east-facing slopes made up of limestone-clay soils. This Pinot is going to drink similarly to a Burgundy Pinot, elegantly balanced with with a warm spice note.

The second white is a summer staple, Berger Gruner Veltliner. Coming from the eastern part of the Kremstal, the grapes are planted on steep loess terraces that store heat during the day and into the night, producing bright, fresh wines. White pepper, green apple, and lime and comes in a liter…more for sharing, or not!😉

Lastly, our Millenium is Flaneur Cuvée Constantin 2019 Pinot Noir from the Willamette Valley. A combination of two complimentary vineyards- Flanerie, known for it’s bold, spicey dark red fruit, and La Belle Promenade which produces bright cool climate grapes. The result is a beautiful, complex, silky Pinot from the WV. 🍷

Remember Wine Club members get 10% off any other items day of pickup, and non-wine club members are welcome to purchase any of the wines above.

Does dad like to splurge on Napa Cab, but wants to enjoy it slowly over time instead of all in one night?

A Coravin is the perfect gift. A hollow needle gets inserted into the cork, allows you to pour wine, then the cork naturally re-seals itself once removed. A dose of Argon gas is released in the bottle ensuring the wine stays fresh and unoxidized, extending the life of your bottle of wine and overall happiness.

While you’re here, you might as well pick up a bottle of Realm The Bard for him to try it out on. We have both 2019 and 2021 😍😍

REDS
Thevenet Macon-Pierreclos is 100% Gamay from Burgundy, soft and elegant with potential to be chilled 😎

Oddero ‘Convento’ Rosso is a blend of Dolcetto, Barbera, and Nebbiolo that is light, with violet-y berries and a touch of structure that makes for a food friendly Italian red.

WHITES
Sallier de la Tour Inzolia highlights an indigenous Sicilian grape, Inzolia, that is prized for its Mediterranean aromas of orange blossom and almonds. Perfect for that fresh catch 🎣

Armorica is a white blend inspired by the crisp, dry white wines chilled on the beach during Breton Summers…need I say more? Enjoy by itself or with seafood ☀️☀️

MILLENIUM
The Noah Bramaterra 2014 is a super exciting offering this month. This wine is predominately Nebbiolo from the Piedmont sub region Bramaterra. The age on this wine makes for a beautifully complex Nebbiolo that showcases the red volcanic soil of the sub region.

ROSÉ
We couldn’t help ourselves to highlight a Rosé this month. The Minuty Prestige is the special touch all of your BBQs need. Tart red fruits, peach and a mineral streak throughout.

Cherished by Oregon wine lovers, Patricia (Patty) Green was an esteemed matriarch and pioneer of one of the finest wineries in the Willamette Valley. Her sudden passing just after the 2017 harvest has been mourned the world over and left a void in the wine community.

We recently had the opportunity to bring in the remainder of the state’s inventory of her 2017 Durant Vineyard Chardonnay and feel privileged to honor one of Patty’s final chapters on our shelf. The brightness and precision of this effort is ideal as warm weather approaches. Read more about Patty below, and pick up a bottle to toast a visionary gone far too soon:
