Enjoy this Pumpkin Spice Old Fashioned, just in time for Halloween 🍂🥃 A homemade pumpkin syrup replaces the usual simple syrup or sugar in this fall take on the spirit-forward classic. Cheers!

Ingredients:
• 1/2 ounce pumpkin syrup*
• 2 dashes orange bitters
• 1 orange wedge
• 2 ounces Breckenridge bourbon
• 1 splash club soda (optional)
• Garnish: cinnamon stick

Steps:
1. Add the pumpkin syrup, orange bitters and orange wedge into an Old Fashioned glass and muddle.
2. Add the bourbon, a large ice cube and a splash of club soda (optional), and stir gently with the cinnamon stick to combine.

*Pumpkin syrup: Add 1 cup water and 3/4 cup light brown sugar to a saucepan and simmer until the sugar dissolves. Turn the heat to low and whisk in 3 teaspoons of pumpkin pie spice and 1/3 cup pumpkin puree. Simmer on low for 8 minutes, remove from heat, and allow to cool. Strain through a fine-mesh strainer, add 1 teaspoon vanilla extract, and store the syrup in the refrigerator in a container with a tightly fitting lid for up to 1 month.

Dave - Burlington Beer "Pumpkin Spice Mocaccino" - Basically a PSL but more interesting. The addition of chocolate and vanilla creates depth while additional spices keep the sweetness down. Reminds me of a light golden stout. Tasty...

Dave - Bradley Brew "Keg Leg" - A busy complex stout for 5.1%. Typical nutty, roasty smell on the nose. Initial sip is clean and unassuming before a mild nutty and chocolatey profile creeps in slowly. Classic stout finish with toffee and cacao notes.

Dave - Charles & Charles "Double Trouble" - Initial sip is Syrah heavy and fruit forward. Midpalate is mildly jammy before the cabernet kicks in...Finishes semi-dry. Would pair well with pork and lamb.

Dave - Ross Brewing "Year Three Anniversary Stout" - Very vanilla forward. The bourbon oakiness lingers throughout, giving a nice plush mouthfeel. Mild flavor and subtle sweetness, but complex underneath. A boozy beer, and a lot of it, for the price.
