Italian Wine Tasting Thursday, June 15th beginning at 6:45pm.

We are thrilled to welcome back Dino Capriotti to City Center Wines for an exciting night of Italian wine tasting with one of the best and most respected importers in the business. Since Dino started Vinity Wine Company in 1999 he has assembled an enviable portfolio of talented winemakers with an unwavering focus on authenticity and excellence-these are wines for true Italian wine lovers. His deep understanding of Italian wine culture began with working in his family’s vineyard near his native town of Offida, a medieval coastal town in Marche, Italy. His tremendous knowledge helped him find and bring to market some of the finest artisanal wines Italy has to offer, including producers as iconic as ArPePe, Le Piane, Caprilli, Scacciadiavoli, I Favati, Loredan Gasparini, Graci and Tenuta di Fiorano amongst many, many others. This coming Thursday Dino will be digging deep into his book to share some of his favorite gems that will be sure to impress you whether you are a seasoned connoisseur or just exploring Italian wine for the first time. Dino’s enthusiasm his infectious, so be prepared to have fun!

Romain and Damien Bouchard founded Domaine de L’Enclos in 2016, but have generations of family winemaking experience behind them. Their entry level Chablis is a cut above, electric and refined. I can’t stop thinking about it.

Nicolini is a tiny family run estate from Trieste that make traditional wines from varieties that are obscure but leave a lasting impression. The Nicolini Rosso is an intense, dark, chewy and funky wine from the Borgogna Nera Istriana grape, and Piccola Nera is a light, almost rosé color, fruity red with a beautiful floral bouquet.

The Pliocene is an extremely drinkable natural skin contact white from Riccardo Danielli, who has a tiny winery near Lake Bolsena in Umbria, Italy. 50% Grechetto, 50% Trebbiano, spontaneous fermentation, unfiltered, stainless steel for extra freshness. This one tends to brings smiles and is a great wine to share with friends.

For you natural wine lovers, here are two fantastic ones from Cote di Franze in Calabria, the southern tip of Italy. The Scilanga brothers Vincenzo and Francesco plant their vines in the windy hills behind their village, using small trees to assist the vines the way the ancients who planted here before them used to. They use indigenous yeasts, low sulfur, no chemicals and plant indigenous varieties, so actually these are examples of super traditional wines. The Greco Bianco (Greek White) is saline, mineral and practically begs for some grilled fish to pair with. The Rosso is a tannic, dry red made from Gaglioppo with herbs, to***co, dark fruit and a bit of funk on the nose.

Terres des Dames (Land of the Ladies) is yet another winery from the Languedoc proving that this the most exciting region in France. Netherlands native Lldewij van Wilgen organically farms her fruit from an 18th century farm not far from Beziers. Her La Diva Blanche is elegant old vine Grenache Blanc that is light on its feet and has minimum oak and refreshing minerality. The La Dame Rouge is a juicy, rich and wonderfully balanced blend of Grenache Noir, Carignan and Syrah that is remarkably good, a new favorite. Very food friendly too! .desdames

These estate-bottled 100% Vermentino whites are gorgeous examples of a very distinct style of this variety by Ottaviano Lambruschi, among the very best we’ve tried. Intense minerality, fresh aromas of lemons and herbs, a super long finish, these would be a great with seafood or Ligurian pesto. These are in very limited supply but we were able to get some to share with you thanks to Oliver McCrum Wines] . Oliver McCrum Wines]
