An unreal day out of Bodega chasing yellowtail and albacore. We ended the day with 23 yellowtail and 1 fat 30lb albacore. We headed west with yellowtail and albacore in mind and quickly found a log holding huge numbers of yellowtail, after a couple 6 way hookups on the troll , we decided to toss irons around the log and found a pretty steady jig bite. We picked up another 11 fish on the jigs and lost several more but had a blast hooking them on the spinning gear. On the way home, we picked up 50 jumbo crab to finish out the day. It's one of the most epic days of the year fishing, and it will be pretty tough to beat this day for norcal yellowtails.

Another Epic lingcod bite out of Bodega Bay. On Saturday, we finished out the inshore lingcod season strong with limits for clients and crew on rockfish and lincod. Immediately upon arriving to the lingcod grounds in 30 feet water, it was wide open fishing with flat seas and clear water where we could see the lingcod swimming around the rocks from the surface. We fished mostly swimbaits the entire day, and We released several dozen fish and had a blast the entire time. We moved deeper for rockfish and quickly gathered a colorful limits of canaries, blues and others before grabbing our crab on the way home. Overall a epic day to finish the inshore season with a great group. More tuna and Yellowtail reports are coming in from the weekend and we will be back to chasing pelagics this week.

Absolutely wide open lingcod fishing out of bodega bay for both of our boats. We took clients and crew limits of lingcod within a few hours of fishing and client limits of good quality dungeness crab. A few more days of inshore fishing before we head back to the offshore rockcod grounds.

Another crazy day out of Bodega Bay chasing pelagics. We finished the day with 6 yellowtail, 1 albacore tuna and 60 crab. We headed west and found that the bait and life from the past few weeks of albacore action had scattered, we trolled further west for a few hours and out of the blue had 6 rods go off with several yellowtail leaping feet into the air on the hookup, we were all shocked since we were fisbing in 58 degree water hundred of miles away from somewhere you would expect to see yellowtail in november. After boating all 6 fish we quickly hooked a double on albacore, and got one to the boat. The choas was short lived but 15 minutes of crazyness the record books as a single norcal yellowtail is a once in a life time event, let alone a 6 way hookup. We returned to check crab gear and pulled 60 good quality crab. Capt Josh did very well on the lingcod inshore on the Sorta Salty, and reports will be posted over the next few days. Good weather for the next few days and we may be opening up some dates for tuna toward the end of the week if number pick back up.

Today we went back on the hunt for longfins and found a temp break at 35 mile west of the harbor, after getting the rods in and a few minutes of trolling it was game on and the tuna starting eating as fast as we could feed em. We stayed on the fish hooking mostly singles and doubles until we called it quits and headed in after lunch with 30 mid to large grade albacore. Steady action all day long and some of the best albacore action in years out of Bodega bay. We stopped to check crab gear on the way in and the crab weren't as hungry as the tuna but we still ended with half limits of crab.

Over the weekend, we had a few rockcod/crab combo trips between both boats, and both boats found great action. On Saturday, I fished inshore while Capt Josh was offshore tuna fishing. We found a good mix of blues and 2 lings with one jumbo coming in at 20lbs. The crabbing was wide open, with one hoop pulling in over 20 legal crab and pulled some jumbo crabs. On Sunday, both Capt Josh and I found a decent bite on Blues in the late morning. Both boats got limits of good quality rockfish. On the bigeye we managed to pull 5 good grade lings in the mix and had some slower crabbing but still managed limits for both morning trips and the evening trip. Great weekend with great weather. Looks like we have some wind for the rest of the week but will be back to fishing for the weekend.

Another day of solid November albacore and crab action out of Bodega Bay. Yesterday we had a few boats join us on the hunt for albacore and we sure found them. We ended the day with 14 jumbo albacore with the biggest at 30lbs and several in the high 20s. We lost a handfull but the clients were more than happy so we headed in at noon to pull crab gear. Crabbing was great and we got back to the dock by 3pm with limits of jumbo crab and a handfull of fat albacore.

Yesterday, we managed to find a wide open albacore bite close to home off Bodega Bay. We finished the day with 25 tuna, averaging well over 20lbs and 2 bluefin in the mix. We started the morning with a lot single and double hook ups right at first light, then by the late morning we chased bird balls and jumpers around hooking several quads of absolute jumbo fish with several fish over coming in over 30lbs. The tuna were aggressive and hitting hand lines and rods set close to the boat, making for a very hectic day. At 1pm with a fish hold stuffed full on tuna, we headed to the crab grounds to get limits for clients and crew of crab. While it was far from our largest number of albacore for the year, it was by far the best quality and one of the top days in terms of excitement and lbs of fish hauled in.

Its been slow going but we have been making forward progress on getting the areas of Cordell deeper than 50 fathoms opened up for recreational rock cod fishing. This will greatly alleviate pressure from certain reefs and give us about 15 to 20 times the amount of reef to fish than we currently have access to in the 50 to 75 fathom range during our Deepwater rockfish season. This is likely the final push to getting everything finalized and but there has been some resistance from an east coast based environmental group. We encourage everyone who wishes to fish Cordell Banks to provide comments on item I5 supporting the opening of Cordell banks outside of 30 fathoms for recreational fishing.

After weeks of wind and sub par tuna fishing for us, we finally had a change in pace and found a school of albacore back close to home in bodega bay. After discussing my doubts of success on catching tuna, our group today voted to head west and then troll for several hours down to the rockfish grounds. We set madmacs and clones out after we hit 60 degree and blue water, as we prepared for bluefin or albacore but luckily hit some albacore nice and close to home. We ended up with 5 very nice grade long fins for the day. Typically, 5 albacore isn't a great day, but our group and myself was pretty happy to see any tuna come over the rail after the reports over the past week. We can only hope the wind backs off and allows us and other boats to get back out and find more tuna.

Had a great weekend of rock fishing both Saturday and Sunday!! We managed to get limits for all of our 12 clients, plus limits for the crew both days, coming to 160 rockfosh for the weekend!!! The lingcod were slow but everything else was chomping! Deepwater rock fish officially starts up tomorrow, so as soon as the weather lays down, we’ll be heading offshore to some deeper reefs. Speaking of offshore, Mother Nature has been throwing us curveballs for the past month, so getting offshore has been challenging. Once the weather lays down both boats will be running for bluefin as well. Rock fish crab combos are right around the corner and we are filling up fast, give us a call and we’ll get you locked in! ~CPT. JOSH .marshall.store

Yesterday we ran a lingcod/rockfish trip and had great weather all day and a steady bite on lings and rockfish. We fished in a shallow and immediately got located on a school of good grade blues on the spinning rods. After picking limits of rockfish we went and looked for lings and landed 6 lingcod. Overall a great day on the water. We are looking at getting back to some tuna action on Tuesday.
