The grapes were hand-harvested, destemmed and fermented with native yeasts. Aged for 10 months in neutral French oak casks and bottled unfiltered. No sulphur added. The vines are located in redwoods 3 miles from the Pacific Ocean lending a cool climate influence.

The 2022 vintage is another cosmic adventure from this producer. They describe this wine as a playful take on the Bordeaux varieties. The blend came about through experimentation with a shorter macerations and shorter aging. This helps to underline and showcase the freshness and fruit character that is so expressive due to our sunny California climate and focused organic farming. This wine is defined by its juicy fruit character on the palate with tons of aromas of blue fruit and mountain berries.

Classic, Scopa is a proprietary label of Pinot Grigio made through a collaboration of Botter with Coeur Wine Co. Botter is a winemaking family with a long history in the Veneto. Carlo Botter started the business 1928 by selling barrels and demijohns of local Veneto wines. After World War Two, brothers Arnaldo and Enzo began selling wine in bottles. Today Botter is run by Carlo’s great grandchildren, winemakers Luca, Annalisa and Alessandro.

This is a truly perfect expression of Etna Bianco, at a value that is impossible to beat. Barone di Villagrande is the oldest winery in Sicily dating back to 1727. Located on the east side of Etna in Milo, on the lower slopes Mount Etna’s slopes at an altitude of 700 metres above sea level. The wine in the past was aged in chestnut barrels, instead of the usual oak. Now, to preserve freshness, stainless steel tanks are used and a little oak aging is added to give a subtle note like almond to the finish of this wine. This wine has beautiful tropical citrus notes such as lemon, lime and grapefruit and balancing herbal note of sage. The pronounced minerality, signature to the volcanic soils of Etna completes this wonderful experience!

This family has been making beautiful wine on the slopes of Mount Etna since 1727. Subtle firewood and charcuterie on the nose, hinting at volcanic soil. Medium-bodied with great acidity and minerality. Practicing organic.

In the late winter of 2019 we were gifted a small handful of Savagnin cuttings from a friend in the Jura. These were from a massale selection of Savagnin vert, rose, and jaune; they were all mixed together and there was no telling which was which. In the spring, this mix of buds were grafted onto a small number vines and thus our little parcel of Savagnin was born at Rorick Heritage Vineyard (RHV).

In the first year the buds took perfectly to the limestone of our site and energetically flushed out into healthy plants producing a small crop – a good start, but just a bit too small of a crop to make into a single cuveé. The second year (2020) we were able to take cuttings from these vines and graft buds onto more vines, roughly doubling our tiny planting. Again the vines showed enthusiasm for the California sun and a small crop was harvested and made into sparkling wine which is still aging in the cellar. Then, in 2021 after repeating the grafting process again we finally had sufficient vines to yield enough fruit for half a barrel of still wine! After fermentation in barrel we let the wine slowly mature. By tasting it each month, we would noticed it was turning into something truly spectacular. Two and half years later we decided to lock the flavor into bottle and allow it to rest a further 6 months prior to release.

This Savagnin feels like such a reward for all the time and energy it took to come into being. It’s a wonderful blend of complexity and elegance. Delicate floral aromas bloom on the nose, rounded out by the richness of fresh butter and almonds courtesy of a bit of (neutral) barrel aging. On the palate, it’s all about balance—warming toasted nuts, a touch of spice, and a mineral undertone that gives it a fresh, grounded finish. It’s a wine with a bewitching charm, one that feels effortlessly refined and endlessly enjoyable.
