BOTTLE HIGHLIGHT | Château de Pibarnon’s 2023 Bandol Rosé

High above the sun-drenched Mediterranean, Château de Pibarnon’s terraced vineyards produce one of Provence’s most captivating wines. The 2023 Bandol Rosé is anything but ordinary — a seamless blend of Mourvèdre and Cinsault that brings together layers of ripe stone fruit, wild herbs, and that unmistakable sea-salty minerality. Elegant, complex, and built to evolve, this is a rosé that shines far beyond summer. Available now!

GROWER VISIT | CHIARA CONDELLO

We had an absolute blast hosting Chiara Condello in California—winemaker, Sangiovese whisperer, and all-around legend of Romagna. Chiara is leading the charge in one of Italy’s rising-star wine regions, crafting expressive, soulful wines from Sangiovese di Predappio.

As importers, it’s always a thrill to introduce our producers to the people and places that love their wines. Chiara’s visit reminded us just how much energy and elegance she brings, both in and out of the bottle.

Predappio is having a moment. And trust us—you want in.

What an extraordinary few days at — tasting through the wines of Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé in such an intimate, beautiful setting. From the precision of the Chambolle‑Musigny to the captivating depth of the Bonnes‑Mares Grand Cru and the luminous beauty of the Musigny Grand Cru, every glass was a reminder of why de Vogüé has been a benchmark of Burgundy for over 500 years.

Even more special was experiencing these wines alongside cuisine from visiting chef and Blackberry Farm’s chefs Trevor Iaconis and Casidee Dabney — all framed by the warm, genuine hospitality that BBF is known for.

Thank you to Andy Chabot, Kelly Schmidt and the entire team for making this an unforgettable gathering!

GROWER HIGHLIGHT | DOMAINE COMTE GEORGES DE VOGÜÉ

With over 500 years of heritage, Domaine Comte Georges de Vogüé is a cornerstone of Burgundy — a name that captures the heart of Chambolle‑Musigny.

With a lion’s share of Le Musigny Grand Cru and a significant piece of Bonnes‑Mares, de Vogüé crafts wines that balance delicate aromas, profound depth, and a silk‑smooth finish. These aren’t wines for the moment — they’re wines for the ages, often reaching their peak 20 or 30 years down the line.

From organic farming and horse‑plowed vineyards to meticulous aging with a “less is more” approach to oak, every bottle captures the estate’s heritage and its deep respect for terroir. At its heart is Jean‑Luc Pépin, a passionate steward and storyteller who has spent nearly four decades sharing the legacy and wines of this legendary estate. A cellar without de Vogüé is a cellar missing a piece of Burgundy’s soul.

GROWER HIGHLIGHT | PIETROSO

Just outside Montalcino’s ancient walls, one stony bit of acreage started it all. In the 1970s, Domenico “Delfo” Berni dreamed of crafting soulful Sangiovese here—and three generations later, Pietroso is still at it.

Hand-harvested fruit, native yeasts, traditional botti aging—no shortcuts, just pure Brunello heart. In a region now full of large estates and flashy conglomerates, it's a breath of fresh air to find a true family winery with deep roots in the region and an honest belief in the potential of Sangiovese from its native soils. Swipe to see what's available!

GROWER HIGHLIGHT | LE FIEF NOIR

In the schist-rich heart of Anjou Noir, Fief Noir is rewriting the Loire story—one soulful, soil-driven bottle at a time.

Winemakers Dominique Sirot & Alexis Soulas forged their bond on the rugged slopes of Corsica before founding their dream estate in Saint Lambert du Lattay in 2014. With deep roots in organic & biodynamic farming, they channel the raw beauty of Chenin Blanc and native reds like Grolleau, Pineau d’Aunis, and Cabernet Franc into wines of shimmering purity and quiet power.

These are wines born of faith, fealty, and finesse—honest reflections of terroir, told through schist, sap, and soul. ✨ Swipe to the end to see a few of our bottles available now!

NORTH BERKELEY AT HOME | DOMAINE JEAN VESSELLE GRAND CRU BRUT PETIT CLOS

For nearly 300 years, the Vesselle family has championed Pinot Noir on the chalky slopes of Bouzy, crafting Blanc de Noirs Champagnes with both power and finesse. Their crown jewel? Petit Clos—a tiny, walled vineyard just steps from the family home, planted entirely to grand cru Pinot Noir. Aged over a decade in bottle and vinified in local oak, this wine is a firework of candied fruit, roasted almonds, and refined intensity.

This year, chose to mark his birthday with something truly special—opening a bottle of Petit Clos to toast the moment. 🥂

WineSpeed | DOMAINE DUMIEN-SERRETTE Cornas ‘Henri’

'Henri' is a tribute to winemaker Nicolas Serrette’s grandfather and made from the family's oldest Syrah vines in the petite Cornas vineyard ‘Patou.’ Foot-tread, basket-pressed, and whole-cluster fermented, the 2022 ‘Henri’ is as old-school as it gets—and as profound as Syrah can be.

(WineSpeed, The Wine Bible) called it “a purple bolt of lightning—full of energy,” and “a racehorse of a wine that will last decades.” Thank you Karen for the lovely review! We could not agree more!

This is one of the Rhône’s most powerful and ageworthy bottlings—yet stunning right now, with wild notes of black olive, white pepper, crushed rock, and blue-black fruit. Swipe to see the bottle. This wine is avaible.

Welcome to North Berkeley Imports

Many wine lovers will tell you about “the” moment, where a casual interest in wine turned into an all-consuming passion. Perhaps it happened during a trip to the Italian coast, at a small restaurant where the local wine was a revelation; perhaps it was a shared bottle with a character so profound it turned upside-down everything you thought you knew about the transformation of grape into wine.

A great importer is the maker of moments. We are fortunate to be that crucial connection between the talented growers who toil the soil and the passionate individuals who applaud and respect their toil. In substance, we procure expressive, authentic wines and shepherd them to market; in spirit, we unite passions and palates across cultures and oceans. It just may be the best job in the world.

North Berkeley Imports wears three unique yet interconnected hats in the fine wine market. We are an importer first and foremost, with a distinct focus on wines from France and Italy. We are also a wholesaler with a national distribution network, our selections appearing in many of the country’s top restaurants and wine bars. We too are a retail store with a personable and professional sales staff, available six days a week to assist private customers across the country.

Global vision, local roots
