Scam alert

Due to the overwhelming amount of telephone scam calls we have received in our area the last several days, we think it’s important go over a few things that we continue to warn residents of:

✔️The Sheriff’s Department will not call you and promise to arrest you if you don’t submit back taxes to the I.R.S. Immediately by telephone. We will also not contact you by phone, tell you that you have a warrant and ask for payment by phone. We have had numerous individuals impersonating the names of actual officers. If you are unsure if you are speaking with an officer, please report to our office or ask that a uniformed officer meet you at a safe location.

✔️The United States Postal Service will not call you saying that they have intercepted a package containing drugs that were addressed in your name

✔️ You do not have a package waiting at Amazon — they will not contact you by phone to verify your credit card number

And for the very last one but probably the best of all:

✔️Your grandchild more than likely has not taken a trip out of the country and is now calling you for bond money. Police officers will not negotiate a bond amount over the phone and ask you to submit it electronically.

The Federal Trade Commission reported that in 2019 people reported losing more than 134 million dollars to scams of this type.
