PECAN PIE BROWNIES!
Ingredients:
1 box Brownie mix, must have instructions for making in 13x9 pan + ingredients listed on the package
Pecan Pie Filling:
1 cup Sugar
1 1/2 cups Light Corn syrup
4 Eggs
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 1/2 teaspoon Vanilla extract
2 cups Pecans, roughly chopped
Instructions:
Preheat oven according to brownie package instructions.
Whisk together the sugar, corn syrup, eggs, butter, and vanilla in a small saucepan. Place on the stovetop over medium-high heat and begin to cook, stirring continuously.
Mix brownies according to package instructions. Pour brownie batter into a greased 13x9 inch pan and place in the oven to bake for 20 minutes. * see note about cooking time below.
As the brownies bake the filling in the saucepan should have thickened enough to coat your spoon (about 15 minutes). Stir the pecans into the mixture and continue to cook for 2-3 minutes until the mixture reaches the consistency of runny oatmeal. You want it to be loose enough to pour over the brownies but not liquid.
When the brownies have finished pre-baking remove them from the oven and pour the pecan pie filling over them spreading it out to cover the brownies completely.
Place them back in the oven and bake for 25-30 minutes or until the filling only jiggles slightly in the middle when you move the pan. Let cool to room temperature before cutting.

Trooper’s Efforts Save a Life

On June 5, 2023, Sgt. Trey Bellue was on a routine MCSAP safety inspection of an 18-wheeler when the driver, Thomas Taylor, suddenly experienced a medical emergency. The commercial vehicle was stopped on US 61 near Thomas Road in Baton Rouge. At the time, Sgt. Bellue was inside of his unit completing paperwork when he observed Mr. Taylor fall head-first from the driver’s seat of his 18-wheeler to the ground. Sgt. Bellue ran to check on Mr. Taylor and noted that he was both unconscious and bleeding profusely from his head. He immediately radioed for medical emergency assistance and began performing CPR. Sgt. Bellue administered CPR to Mr. Taylor for 17 minutes, stopping only briefly when a passing civilian offered to step in and assist. Thankfully, EMS arrived shortly thereafter and was able to restore a pulse.

Thank you Sgt. Bellue for your quick response and commitment to giving it your all. We are happy to report that Sgt. Bellue was able to visit with Mr. Taylor and his family in the hospital and he is on the road to recovery!

Happy Sunday everyone!! Some of you who frequented my shop often may remember I played a Sweet Cecilia CD often in the shop along with Cajun music! Sweet Cecilia is a Grammy nominated trio (2 sisters and their cousin) from my hometown. Recently I traveled to St. Joseph Catholic Church in Cecilia La. for the album release celebration of “Raised in the Choir Loft” performed by one of the members of the trio!! Tap Laura Huval Music 🎶 and take a listen to her beautiful voice singing beautiful songs of worship to our Lord. Her voice in song is truly a God given gift!! Congratulations Laura on the release of your new album and may God continue to bless you and Sweet Cecilia with gifts of music to share with us all 🙏🏻

🍓🌝The full Strawberry Moon rises tonight! 🌝🍓 On the evening of Saturday, June 3—just after sunset—look towards the southeast to watch the full Moon rise gently above the horizon. There, it will appear large and golden-hued.

June’s full Moon will reach peak illumination at 10:43 P.M. Central Time.

This “Strawberry Moon” name has been used by Native American Algonquian tribes that live in the northeastern United States as well as the Ojibwe, Dakota, and Lakota peoples to mark the ripening of “June-bearing” strawberries that are ready to be gathered. 🍓🍓🍓

Good morning my friends!!
These folks are an amazing group of volunteers that are dedicated to cleaning up our city!! Talking with Jennifer the Founder of KTTB on a cleanup Essen Lane/I-12 she mentioned to a group of us that “this is where it all got started.” During the lockdown of Covid in 2020 she was driving down Essen. The weeds on the median were high and the litter was an eye sore. Short story of it is that she took action and decided to do something about it. She and a friend decided to cleanup the mess. Now years later over 10,000 bags of litter are off the streets of our city. Clogged drains are being clean out and cigarette butts are being swept of curbs. With “Big Max” as the rolling magnet is nicknamed, it is picking up nails and metal that can puncture our tires!!
Never underestimate what the actions of one person’s effort can make!!

Truly an amazing story of how KTTB got started. Please consider liking their page on FB and more important joining the group for a cleanup. If time is an issue please consider donating Heavy Grade Large Contractor Bags as this is a Nonprofit Group of individuals that are cleaning up our city.

KEEP TIGER TOWN BEAUTIFUL

As we celebrate Memorial day weekend let us remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice for our freedoms. The freedom to choose being part of the solution and not part of the problem.

Good morning everyone!!

Got out and cleaned up on Ann St. and under the underpass on Cedarcreast!! Picked up that nasty crawfish that was Thrown out of someone’s vehicle…yucky. They literally opened up their car door and put it out on the street 🤬🤬🤬 I’m sure their parents are proud! Shameful. Now I get to smell that crap in my trashcan till Monday but it’s up off the streets! And yes I left the peelings as they will decompose!! ✅♻️🇺🇸✅

P.S. my shop is no longer open but I had a good run downtown!! Kept my page up to connect to my friends and customers!! Miss you guys!! Great memories were made!! No regrets!!

KEEP TIGER TOWN BEAUTIFUL

Happy Sunday everyone!! Since my schedule doesn’t line up with you guys, I took it upon myself to knockout a simple project!! Took all of 30 minutes. To be outside in nature on a beautiful COOL Sunday morning doing God’s work, it felt amazing and exhilarating! Only one bag but it’s off the streets!! I may be inclined to challenge the corporate offices of McDonald’s, Burger King, Taco Bell and Popeyes…oh let us not forget Circle K whom I worked for 25 plus years to educate their customers on where to put their trash. So ridiculous. And if you’re not a litter bug You never know what you might find to line the bed of your trunk to keep that yuck from dirtying it!! Good by Bed Bath and Beyond

As a kid, I can remember my dad bringing me to work with him at his company, the Algiers Canning and Sales Co. I helped to can shrimp. Some of my fondest and earliest memories were of him shaking hands with the fishermen at the docks.

I learned the value of making an honest living, the art of the deal, and our how special our seafood industry is. My mom saved the same jumpsuit I wore with my dad on those docks back then, and I cherish it to this day. I still love promoting our Seafood Industry too!

Now that’s a deli lineup if I ever saw one!! Nom nom nom 😋

Evening my friends!! Just taking a minute to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!!

I also wanted to share a thing I did today. If my customers know me well you know I always tried my best to keep my business clean. Inside and out!! Well today I got up and decided today was the day. I joined forces with the Keep Tiger Town Beautiful volunteers!! If you have not heard of this group then please look them up on FB. They are a group of Dedicated Citizens who clean our city streets of litter and trash. Today 6-8 volunteers tackled a homeless camp cite on Bluebonnet @ Airline. Tucked behind tall grass and not far from a busy street was something unfathomable and unlike something I had ever seen. Unfortunately these camps exist because homelessness is part of our society. It’s real and it’s so very sad. No matter what gets a person to this level of hopelessness I can’t help but feel empathy for them. Through out my career in the Convenience Store industry I encountered many and was always kind to them. Simple things like treating them with dignity and allowing them to use our restroom. Feeding them when I could. Making friends with a few and unfortunately having to kick a few out of my establishment because they were angry and mean and were up to NO GOOD. Many suffer from mental illness. Many suffer from the awful disease of ADDICTION. They are still human and unfortunately they is no easy fix to this problem that exist amongst our midst. Almost in plain sight tucked away behind tall grass. Homeless Camps EXIST.

The group of volunteers led by Jennifer is tackling the work at hand of cleaning these sites after they are abandoned. And in some cases because the land owners turns a blind eye the homeless return and a vicious cycle begins.

Today I woke up. Decided it was time to put my boots on. Drive to the location that the page instructed. I had no idea the task ahead. Heck, I thought I’d be picking trash off the curbs. It was exhilarating. It was overwhelming. It was hard work. It was infuriating. It was being part of something good. It was not complaining about a problem but fixing a problem. It was rewarding. It was an awesome feeling of pride in what ordinary citizens can accomplish. It was EYE OPENING.

AND WITH ALL THAT BEING SAID…If nothing else and you are a citizen of Baton Rouge or a citizen of our beautiful State than all I ask is for you to look them up…Keep Tiger Town Beautiful on Facebook. If it moves you to the point you want to put on them boots then by all means volunteer. If it’s only for one major cleanup then it will change you for the good. I do intend on making it my mission to help when I can. The core group of volunteers are amazing individuals who deserve our support.

With that being said I will post pictures on this post of the cleanup. Also look for additional post of videos I took this morning as you can’t post pictures and videos at the same time on any given post. Sorry it was such a long post but if you were a customer of mine than you know me well. 😉🙂🤗 Thanks for the ear!!

I will end by saying once again Merry Christmas and Stay safe and blessed. Say a little prayer for those sleeping out in the cold tonight.

The wait is over!! On Sale Tomorrow ❤️ If anyone is wondering why I put this wrapper in a frame the story goes like this. I got pies delivered to Pam’s the day before the dreadful fire 10 years ago. As the news broke and people saw the fresh tray of pies displayed it took all of two hours and I was sold out. I grabbed the last 2 pies and put them aside for Merrill and I. I knew back then that it would take awhile if at (all) for the production line to resume. I had the frame so I figured why not pay homage!! I displayed this frame with the wrapper at my shop!! It took 10 years but the pies are back on the shelves. I know there will be a lot of happy folks tomorrow!!

Yum!!
