SATURDAY WINE TASTING: Join us Sat 20 Jul 2024 NOON-3PM at the shop for a taste of the latest organic arrivals from Mas des Bressades, located in a hidden gem of a wine‑producing area, the Costières de Nîmes!

WINE MENU:
MAS DES BRESSADES

> 2022 Costières de Nîmes Cuvée Tradition Blanc Mas des Bressades
> 2023 Costières de Nîmes Cuvée Tradition Rosé Mas des Bressades
> 2022 Costières de Nîmes Cuvée Tradition Rouge Mas des Bressades

Gentlemen, please, no cologne or after shave; ladies, please no perfume!

TASTING INFO:
Mas des Bressades is long an over-achieving producer in this otherwise hidden gem of a wine‑producing area, the Costières de Nîmes. We were first made aware of the wines some thirty years ago when they were brought to us by our importer/agent/provocateur pal, Mr. Bobby Kacher, who was long a champion of the wines from the area. We find the wines (now certified Organic under EU guidelines) more well‑made now than ever and, as ever, a staunch value and defense against the otherwise high‑price of good wine. The rosé and rouge are fresh arrivals - c’mon downtown and give ‘em a taste! Click the MORE INFO link below for details and watch this space for details on Saturday’s wine tasting! SATURDAY WINE TASTING: Join us Sat 13 Jul 2024 NOON-3PM at the shop for a taste of three white Rhône wines from one of AWM’s favorite producers, Famille Quiot - chilled ice cold!

WINE MENU:
LE TRIO DE TRIGNON CÔTES-DU-RHÔNE (BLANCS)

> 2022 Côtes-du-Rhône Marsanne Château du Trignon
> 2022 Côtes-du-Rhône Roussanne Château du Trignon
> 2023 Côtes-du-Rhône Viognier Château du Trignon

Gentlemen, please, no cologne or after shave; ladies, please no perfume!

TASTING INFO:
The Château du Trignon was purchased by La Famille Quiot in 2006. Located in Gigondas, and with breathtaking views of the Dentelles de Montmirail, it takes its name from the small stream that runs alongside the property and then flows into the Ouvèze River, which just later flows into the great Rhône River itself. This is a domaine of about 90 hectares of vines spread over the appellations of Gigondas, Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Beaume de Venise, Côtes‑du‑Rhône and its villages of Plan‑de‑Dieu and Sablet. In addition to their superb red wines, they offer this spiffy, just under‑the‑radar trio of single-varietal white wines from the southern Côtes‑du‑Rhône that we feel are sure to tease and tantalize and, then, satisfy your taste for mineral dry white wines from the south of France. Come on downtown and welcome the dog days of summer with a small taste or three of delicious southern Rhône Valley white wine(s).

SATURDAY WINE TASTING: Join us Sat 29 Jun 2024 NOON-3PM as we offer a taste of four recently arrived 2023 rosés to help cool your brow this 4th of July holiday!

WINE MENU:

(served up well-chilled to beat that summer heat!)

> 2023 Côtes de Provence Rosé Saint-Victoire Elie Sumeire
> 2023 Corse Rosé Gris de Marquiliani Domaine de Marquiliani
> 2023 Corse Rosé Le Rosé Gris de Pauline Domaine de Marquiliani

Gentlemen, please, no cologne or after shave; ladies, please no perfume!

TASTING INFO:
Summer is here…and pink wine is a GREAT way to cool off on a hot day! We’ll be pouring a taste of four, fresh 2023 arrivals from three special, more off the beaten track French rosé regions. We’ll start our tour in Sainte-Victoire, a sub-region of Côtes de Provence that lies at the foot of Mont Saint-Victoire - an 11-mile limestone ridge (treasured subject of Cézanne) whose stone lends crispness and definition into the wines grown there, such as our first from Famille Sumeire (which is across the road from the revered Domaines Ott). Then, we’ll move to the isle of Corsica to taste two ethereal, pale rosés from Anne Almanac of Domaine Marquiliani that reflect the granitic, schist (layered mineral) soils and sea spritz they’re grown in - Kermit Lynch Wine Merchant says they’re like “drinking a cloud”. Finally, we’ll finish the tour in Saint-Chinian, a recently (1982) created AOP in the central northern Languedoc with Mas Champart. Their rosé features the grape Mourvèdre, made famous by Bandol winemaker Domaine Tempier, and it will pair delightfully with your best grilled summer fare! We're open 10AM-6:30PM Monday-Saturday.

PS - we will be *OPEN 10AM-4PM* Thursday, the 4th of July to help with your holiday wine & spirits needs! :)

SATURDAY WINE TASTING: Join us Sat 22 Jun 2024 NOON-3PM as we welcome Summer 2024 and offer a taste of four refreshingly crisp Sauvignon Blancs from around the world!

WINE MENU:
SAUVIGNON BLANC
(served up well-chilled to beat that summer heat!)

> 2022 Touraine Sauvignon Domaine des Chézelles
> 2023 Sancerre Henri Bourgeois
> 2022 Château Pavillon de Boyrein Graves Blanc
> 2022 Freemark Abbey Sauvignon Blanc Napa Valley

Gentlemen, please, no cologne or after shave; ladies, please no perfume!

TASTING INFO:
Let’s ring in Summer with a taste of Sauvignon Blanc! Its a prolific varietal grown all over the world, its name likely derived from the French Ward “sauvage” (wild) and it is the parent of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc. Renowned for its green and herbal flavors and bright acidity, but terroir and winemaking techniques greatly influence its nose and palate. Malolactic fermentation and new oak drive a more tropical/floral and sometimes creamier representation, while the absence of these influences allow the unique aromatic compounds of Pyrazines (grass, fresh herbs, bell pepper) and Thiols (citrus, grapefruit, tropical, black currant) to shine. These aromatic compounds can be influenced by the local terroir (sun, soil fertility) and viticulture techniques (canopy management, harvesting technique). C’mon downtown to taste Sauvignon Blanc from three classic regions: California, the Loire Valley and finally Bordeaux - which adds a splash of Sémillon for lift, floral notes (via aromatic compound called Terpenes) and age-ability. SATURDAY WINE TASTING: Join us Sat 15 Jun 2024 NOON-3PM as we offer a taste of four mouth-watering Albariño wines from Spain and Portugal!

WINE MENU:
ALVARINHO/ALBARIÑO

> 2022 Rías Baixas Albariño Burgans
> 2022 Rías Baixas Albariño Pazo de Señorans
> 2022 Rías Baixas Albariño do Ferreiro Gerardo Mendez

Gentlemen, please, no cologne or after shave; ladies, please no perfume!

TASTING INFO:
Albariño (or Alavarinho as they say in Portugal) is a small, thick-skinned white grape that hails from the Iberian Peninsula (and most well known from the Rias Baixas DO in the northwest corner of Spain). It offers a nose of nectarine, lime, and grapefruit - sometimes with subtle hints of honeysuckle and occasionally beeswax, especially as vineyard locations move away from the cool coastline. The palate is mid-weighted with mouth-watering acidity and can finish with salinity (especially coastline vineyards) and sometimes a subtle bitter note (like green almond or citrus pith, from the thick skins of the small grape). Albariño is a natural match for fresh seafood (raw, grilled or lighter baked options) as well as semi-soft cheeses such as Mozzarella or Manchego. Albariño is rarely oaked and is usually consumed young and fresh - but the high phenolic content and bright acidity make sit a great candidate for aging as well…Click the MORE INFO link below for details and watch this space for details on upcoming tastings! They marry tradition and technology but retain minimalism in their viticulture and winemaking (wild yeast fermentation, fermentation temperature and minimal use of oak) to let the terroir be the star, not the winemaker. It’s the first Saturday in June - National Bubbly Day! While most people instantly think of Champagne, there are a wide variety of sparkling wines produced throughout the world using local varietals at various price points and quality levels. There are many dimensions to making a sparkling wine - grape ripeness, skin contact versus a touch of red wine for rosé, contact with the lees or dead yeast cells (contributes a creamy mouthfeel or imparts pastry, nutty or toasty notes), dosage or the “sweetening” of the final wine and how the bubbles are created - via a second fermentation utilizing the “Traditional/Champagne Method” in the bottle, the “Charmat Method” in a larger, pressure controlled vessel or other methods for more bulk wines. C’mon downtown for a taste or four fine bubblies hailing from Italy, Spain and France - including a 100% Chardonnay (Blanc de Blancs) Champagne! Owned by the Saurel family since the 1940s and headquartered in Sarrians (near Avignon and Orange), they own vineyards in Vacqueyras, Gigondas and Côtes du Rhône. They have been farming biodynamically since 1996 and earned their certification in 1999 (biodynamic = organic faming plus other components such as composting and composting teas, usage of cover crops between rows as well as observation of the moon’s gravitational effect on water via a calendar-based system that guides on when to work in the vineyard, harvest the grapes as well as making and enjoying the wine). Biodynamic viticulture is believed to produce healthier, more resilient vines - and it shows in their wines, which have maintained their lift, acidity and structure in the warming climes. TASTING INFO:
Sauvignon Blanc, whose name likely derived from the French Ward “sauvage” (wild) is a prolific varietal grown all over the world (and incidentally, is the progenitor or parent of Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc). It is renowned for its green and herbal flavors and bright acidity. However, under the influence of different terroir and winemaking techniques it is somewhat of shapeshifter. Malolactic fermentation and oak influence offer a more tropical/floral and sometimes creamier representation, while the absence of these influences allow the unique aromatic compounds of Pyrazines (grass, fresh herbs, bell pepper) and Thiols (citrus, grapefruit, tropical, black currant) to shine. These aromatic compounds can be influenced by the local terroir (sun, soil fertility) and viticulture techniques (canopy management, harvesting technique). C’mon downtown and taste Sauvignon Blanc from four classic regions: California, New Zealand, the Loire Valley and finally Bordeaux - which adds a splash of Sémillon for lift, floral notes (via aromatic compound called Terpenes) and ageability.
