It is with a heavy heart and a great deal of mixed emotions that we have to officially announce the Underground Bottle Shop will be closing its doors in the coming weeks of January.
As you can imagine, this decision has been an extremely difficult one. For the past eight years, we’ve been able to cultivate something really special here in Auburn, and letting it go is a reality we’ve all been struggling with as we’ve reached this last chapter of the shop.
While we will always be able to look back and view the shop as a success, the writing has admittedly been on the wall for a little while now. Because of our deep appreciation and meaningful connection with our customer base, the amazing community here in Auburn, and the greater Finger Lakes wine scene as a whole, we’ve tried to really dig in and give it another go this past year, but ultimately know it’s time to call it what it is.
I’d like to first and foremost give a huge shoutout to the staff. Alison has played an integral role in helping build the business with me for the past five years, and without Carter in the mix for the past two, things would not have run as smoothly around here. It’s been a great joy of mine to work alongside such like-minded and passionate people over the years at Underground. I think we were able to curate such a fun and welcoming vibe, and the ease, understanding, and professional attitude to which we’ve gone about things is something I’ve never taken for granted.
Thank you to all of our sales representatives and distributor/import partners. We worked hard to find the producers and wines that really mattered to us, and having access to such dynamic portfolios and dedicated sales teams always made our jobs easier in that sense. Many of you have become friends, and the afternoons spent tasting, talking, and learning from each other will be greatly missed.
To our local growers, wine and cidermakers - thank you for doing what you do. It’s been an honor to represent you and have the ability to share so many of your stories and guide people towards the products that make our region so unique.
