It is with a heavy heart and a great deal of mixed emotions that we have to officially announce the Underground Bottle Shop will be closing its doors in the coming weeks of January.

As you can imagine, this decision has been an extremely difficult one. For the past eight years, we’ve been able to cultivate something really special here in Auburn, and letting it go is a reality we’ve all been struggling with as we’ve reached this last chapter of the shop.

While we will always be able to look back and view the shop as a success, the writing has admittedly been on the wall for a little while now. Because of our deep appreciation and meaningful connection with our customer base, the amazing community here in Auburn, and the greater Finger Lakes wine scene as a whole, we’ve tried to really dig in and give it another go this past year, but ultimately know it’s time to call it what it is.

I’d like to first and foremost give a huge shoutout to the staff. Alison has played an integral role in helping build the business with me for the past five years, and without Carter in the mix for the past two, things would not have run as smoothly around here. It’s been a great joy of mine to work alongside such like-minded and passionate people over the years at Underground. I think we were able to curate such a fun and welcoming vibe, and the ease, understanding, and professional attitude to which we’ve gone about things is something I’ve never taken for granted.

Thank you to all of our sales representatives and distributor/import partners. We worked hard to find the producers and wines that really mattered to us, and having access to such dynamic portfolios and dedicated sales teams always made our jobs easier in that sense. Many of you have become friends, and the afternoons spent tasting, talking, and learning from each other will be greatly missed.

To our local growers, wine and cidermakers - thank you for doing what you do. It’s been an honor to represent you and have the ability to share so many of your stories and guide people towards the products that make our region so unique.

Our library offer from was a smash. Most of the wines are pre-sold, but we still have a few goodies available, like mags of 2014 zin and a few single-vineyard cabs going back just as far. If you’re looking to elevate the California vibe at the table this holiday, these undiscovered Sonoma gems will certainly get it done.

Happy Halloween! This Friday’s tasting is shaping up to be one for the books. We’re welcoming in our bud Peter from Alain Junguenet Selections, to pour an absolutely bonkers lineup from Mas de Boislauzon, including two Chateauneuf-du-Papes!

For lovers of the southern Rhône, Mas de Boislauzon has it all. Six generations of winemaking, organically farmed old-vines spread out over a number of different terroirs in Chateauneuf and Côtes du Rhône, and a hyper-focused portfolio of wines that range from the everyday to the exceptional.

Our lineup will include the rare Chateauneuf-du-Pape blanc, the lovable, crushable “La Chaussynette” rouge, a super serious Côtes du Rhône made from 70-year-old vines, and the heavenly masterpiece that is the Famile Chaussy Chateauneuf.

Come start your November with a bang. We’re popping the good stuff!

We’ve got another phenomenal Italian producer to introduce you to this Friday! From 5:00-7:00 we’ll be pouring three wines from Tiberio, an exciting young winery in Abruzzo doing amazing work with their old-vine Trebbiano and Montepulciano.

With the exception of a few legendary estates like Valentini and Emidio Pepe, Abruzzo has long suffered a reputation for producing only cheap, inoffensive Montepulciano wines in bulk. Christiana Tiberio and her brother Antonio represent a new wave of ambitious growers and winemakers helping to push the quality level forward here.

The lineup will include the flagship Trebbiano, a super delish Cerasuolo (one of our fave OG categories for chillable red) and the always impressive Montepulciano bottling.

Come by and check out the future of Abruzzo with us. These are the real deal!

This Fridays tasting will see us heading to the far north-eastern reaches of Italy to highlight the wines of i Clivi, a small estate in Friuli, working organically with ancient, indigenous grapes and non-interventionist winemaking. The wines produced here are subtle, energetic, and extremely versatile. We can’t wait to pour them for you!

The tasting includes the sparkling Ribolla Gialla, their flagship Friulano, and two quintessential fall reds - Schioppettino and Cabernet Franc.

We kick things off at 5. Get the weekend started right with us!

Beyond Pinot Noir! New fall favorites from Oregon’s Evening Land Vineyards 🌲 🌲 🌲

Raj and Sashi (of Domaine de la Côte/Sandhi fame) have their Pinot Noir totally dialed in at Seven Springs, one of Oregons most coveted and historic vineyards in the Eola-Amity Hills, but their work with the site’s old vine-Chardonnay and Gamay cannot be overlooked either. The vineyard was established in the mid 80’s under the direction of Burgundian legend Dominique Lafon, and the wines from here are steeped in a bit of that same elegant, old-world charm. We’re excited to get them in your glass soon. Email offer incoming 🍷 📧

It’s been an interesting week to be a wine shop in Auburn…

By now many of you have seen or been followed by . What started as a bogus looking page in the first place, with stock internet and AI imaging, has now just blatantly begun to take and post numerous images from our own instagram page. Thank you to everyone who has brought this to our attention over the past number of days.

We thought we had enough people initially report the page, and it looked like it was temporarily shut down, but this thing/scam/bot? doesn’t seem to want to go away. None of it makes much sense, but it’s been pretty darn annoying as you can all imagine.

We kindly ask that if you can access the page, to please report it as fraudulent and that it’s trying to impersonate our own page. We’d very much like to get back to posting our own content rather than deal with this nonsense, but this is where we’re at. We greatly appreciate it!

Mikulski cremant is a vibe. One of the more elusive, non-Champagne sparklers we repeatedly ask for year in and year out, has suddenly reappeared in all of its crystalline, Mikulskian glory. A relatively young domaine (est 1992) who has quietly gained an insanely culty following for their chiseled, nuanced (not to mention impossible to find) Meursault wines. The cremant is roughly equal parts Chard and Pinot, with a healthy splash of Aligote for good measure. Nice full mousse, pure fruit and a fresh mineral core. Easy to wrap your head around and great bubbles to saber and drink often 🍾 🗡️
