Asheville Wine Market

Asheville Wine Market Asheville, NC's largest selection of local & global artisanal wines, local & imported craft beers, c Our work doesn’t end when the wine arrives, though.

In 1993, Eb and Jean Heide opened a wine shop in downtown Asheville committed to the idea that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a great bottle of wine. Over twenty years later, now under the ownership of long time employee Laurence Weaver, that sentiment hasn’t changed. The Asheville Wine Market is still excited to be offering great wines at a great price, with an enthusiastic staff at th

e ready to help you find just the right bottle for your meal or occasion. We love talking about wine almost as much as we love to drink it, and hold firmly to the belief that wine is made to be enjoyed by everyone. After all, good wine is good wine, whether it costs $10 or $100. It’s the wine itself that interests us, as well as your enjoyment of it, not the price tag. At the AWM, we specialize in bringing you high quality wines (at a reasonable price, of course) from independent, often family-run, vignerons. To do this, we travel the world, meeting the growers and producers, deciding what wines are right for our customers, and then working with small, locally-rooted importers and distributors to get the wine across whatever ocean it needs to get across in order to make it to our humble shop. These AWM “Hand-Picked Selections” represent wines exclusive to us that we are proud and excited to be bringing to the Asheville market. We’ve worked hard to develop relationships with our customers, learning their likes and dislikes, and tailoring our recommendations to their preferences. We’re not just going to sell the same bottle to everyone. We’re only going to sell you wine that we’re sure you’re going to love, and that fits comfortably within your budget. Also, we’re going to have fun while we do those things. We’re pretty sure you will, too. We’re here because we love wine. We love drinking wine. We love talking about wine. We love listening to other people talk about wine while we are drinking wine. Our education-based approach to wine sales is based on the hope that the more people get excited about wine, the more Asheville wine culture will have the opportunity to expand and grow, and we would like to contribute to that goal. The wine world is a big place, and there are many local importers and distributors working hard to bring us glimpses of it in the form of wine from small, independent vignerons expressing their individual region’s unique cultural traditions. It’s Local meets Global, and we’re proud to be a part of it. (Or, It’s a Global perspective on supporting Local, and we’re proud to be a part of it.)

*We’re a Living Wage certified shop. Everyone here is paid a living wage
*Members of the Asheville Grown Business Alliance
*We prefer to deal with and support local, community based small and independent business. We don’t just talk about that… we do it!
*We actively support the local farming community with financial contributions personally and on a business level.
*“Local Global” is more than a catch-phrase sound byte for us. We are adamant about supporting and sourcing from local and independent counterparts from around the globe. We prefer real wine, made by real people, wine from farmers, not lab technicians.
*We’re wine geeks, not wine snobs. If you love wine, or well, even just like wine, we’re your friend.
*When you come see us at the shop, please remember, there’s no such thing as a stupid question. The world of wine can be quite intimidating but we’re here to provide friendly answers to ANY questions.

We hope our upcoming Holiday tastings will bring a bit of normalcy and add some much-needed enjoyment as we all navigate recovery from Helene. It's been a challenging time for everyone, and by gathering together to share some excellent company and great wines, we hope to offer a welcome break to help us all reconnect.

We're optimistic that potable water will be restored by the time of our November Open House. However, if it's not, we invite you to BYOG -- bring your favorite wine glass to make the experience even more personal. We'll have plastic cups available just in case.

AWM Open House events are epic - we love meeting new people and catching up with old friends while pouring tastes of the latest AWM Hand-Picked Selections. These selections are clean, naturally made wines that provide a direct link between the vineyard, winemaker, and AWM customers. Over the years, these producers have become great friends, some even like family, and it's a thrill and privilege for me to present their wines.

We'll have a great selection of my personally sourced Reds, Whites, and Rosé, along with some of our favorite local suppliers and importers who will be on hand to showcase their wares.

If you have yet to attend one of our Open House Tastings, here's what you need to know:
--Open House Tastings are casual, drop-in events where you can sample 30 or more wines before purchasing.
--Admission is free, all local and regional AWM customers are welcome, and reservations are not required.
--Can you bring friends, neighbors, and relatives? Absolutely!
--20% Discount on wine by the case -- please note this does not apply to Email Newsletter Insider Deals or any other wine already discounted or on sale.

Thank you for your continued support. We're looking forward to seeing everyone.

Community Updates from AWM:
Thank You and How You Can Help
First off, a heartfelt thank you for your overwhelming generosity! Because of you, we delivered our first two truckloads of essential items to BeLoved Asheville yesterday. Your support is making a real difference in our community. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

Updated Donation Needs
BeLoved Asheville is now focusing on rebuilding efforts. They currently need power tools, cleanup supplies, contractor trash bags, generators, site lighting, dehumidifiers, and other construction essentials. These items are crucial for helping families get back on their feet.

How You Can Help
While we can't accept cash donations at AWM, you can still make a big impact. If you have an old-school checkbook handy, consider writing a check directly to BeLoved Asheville (please don't make it out to AWM) and dropping it by the shop. Writing a check ensures that 100% of your donation goes straight to them without any third-party fees. We'll personally deliver any checks we receive to Adrienne, Amy, or Gustavo at BeLoved.

Shipping Donations
We previously suggested using Amazon to ship items to our shop for donation. However, delivery services are experiencing significant delays, so better options might exist. If you're out of the area and wish to contribute, mailing a check is a great way to help. Please make the check out to BeLoved Asheville (not AWM) and send it to:
Asheville Wine Market
65 Biltmore Ave
Asheville, NC 28801

Last Call for Food, Clothing, and Essentials
We'll be making one more delivery of food, clothing, and essential items tomorrow 10/10. If you plan to drop something off, please bring it by today or between 11am and noon tomorrow!

We Have Potable Water to Share
Our friend Brian from Highland Brewing (and former AWM staff member) dropped off five 20-liter jugs for drinking water. We'll refill these daily from our well in Mills River, so feel free to bring containers if you need drinking water.

Internet Service is Available
If you know folks without internet access who need to contact loved ones, pay bills, or contact FEMA, please spread the word: we've set up a secure Wi-Fi network at the shop for anyone who needs reliable internet to process FEMA docs. If they've lost their device in the storm, we have a dedicated laptop available for secure use. All personal data will be wiped after each use to protect privacy.

We're Open for Business
We're back and open from 11 am to 4 pm! When you're ready to buy wine, we ask you to support locally-owned small businesses like ours. Ask us about wines from local importers and distributors like Kate Stamps of Rise over Run and JP Bourgeois, and Mike Tiano of Haw River Wine —we'd love to guide you toward those. While it's convenient to grab a bottle at the supermarket, purchasing locally sourced wines gives you great wine and helps revive our local economy.

We hope to see you soon!
With gratitude,
Larry, Hammond, Marshall, Hollace, and Abbie

While we are thankful and lucky to announce that our staff and store made it through the storm safely, we have heavy hearts for our mountain town.
It's near impossible to put into words how we are sure all of us feel right now.
We are proud to be a part of this strong community that has already started lifting each other up.
We have a lot of work to do and we are happy to be here together.
As far as us opening up we don't have much news but hopefully we will soon.
Take care of yourself and your neighbors and we really hope to see y'all soon 💙

Over the years, we've seen plenty of wines come and go here at the AWM. Some stick around for a few vintages, while others just make a quick visit. I'm excited to bring back these two outstanding everyday wines that have been customer and staff go-to favorites for over two decades.

Established in 1929, the Hilaire d'Ozilhan Co-op brought together the village's winemakers, and today it boasts 60 members. Their dedication and passion for winemaking paid off in 1956 when they were awarded the prestigious Côtes du Rhône appellation for their standout Prestige blends.

Hope to see you soon!

Join us for an evening of great food, fine company, and exceptional wine as we welcome back Nasi Kajana, the co-founder of Etruscan Imports.

As always, Chef Steve Goff will be in the house to wow us with his culinary magic and put a Tastee spin on some classic Italian pairings.

We feel especially lucky being located downtown on gorgeous day like today.

With the changes in weather its difficult to decide: red or white? We are just gonna go with both!

Enjoy this sunny day, hope to see you downtown soon!

A leaky cork isn't always a bad thing! Today we found one within this Chateau Giscours from 1970, which meant it was finally time to enjoy!

Having the opportunity to try such a special wine was an amazing learning experience for all of us.

The Bordeaux was holding up surprisingly well, it was such a rare special treat to kick off a beautiful holiday weekend!

From our little market crew, have a great Labor Day!

Our Story

In 1993, the Asheville Wine Market opened in Downtown Asheville committed to the idea that you don’t have to spend a fortune to get a great bottle of wine.
