Damon and Hannah are in Amarillo TX for the Affiiliated Food Show. There are hundreds of food vendors here showcasing thousands of great products, some tried-and-true and some brand new! It’s always great to catch up with our main grocery supplier and their amazing team, as well.

The two of them will be coming back to Arizona with lots of ideas, that’s for sure!

February 22 (uh, that's today) is Supermarket Employee Day!

We may not be a "supermarket", but we sure are a super market, amiright?!?! A 'merc'ket, if you will.... Okay, that one was a stretch, even for us.

Thanks to all of our employees handling the day in-day out frontline work! You were essential before the pandemic, during, and you remain essential now, and don't ever forget it.

In a world that seems to be constantly screaming for innovation & AI and less human contact, we want to reassure you that we will never have self-checkouts, credit cards at the gas pumps, or robots stocking our shelves. We will never have EV charging stations in our parking lot, you can go to the Arivaca Library for that.

We will continue using cash and accepting local checks, for as long as the banks allow us to, and we are always dedicated to providing actual real human connection to your shopping experiences here! 😁

DID YOU KNOW:

Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program (LIHEAP) is now a state of Arizona DES program, and we are an approved propane vendor.

For information on how to apply, please contact Arivaca HR. It can take up to a couple months for state processing so get started today!

Disclaimer: you can only use these funds for propane fuel. Empty tanks & tank accessories are NOT allowed under the DES program.

As you probably know, each month we choose a different local non-profit/cause for our donation jars. For the month of February, our jars are going to the Arivaca Fire District's Fire Training - to allow those newly-crowned EMTs in town to finish getting fully certified in Fire, as well.

They are looking to raise $7,000 to allow the entire class to fulfill the fire training locally - if you are interested in donating a larger sum than a donation jar warrants, please contact Damon at the Merc or Chief Tangye at the fire station! They will be pleased to give you more information.

Imagine, if you will, having an entire LOCAL crew certified in both EMS and Fire suppression! What a blessing!

As a local Arivacan recently stated, we are extraordinarily lucky to be as remote as we are and have the support that the Fire Department provides - please, help them help all of us and consider donating your extra change at the registers and/or donating a larger amount directly to AFD for Fire Training!

We are fortunate to be a small business that has existed here for a long, long time. We sometimes take it for granted that people just "know" where we are, and we really don't do any advertising. Aside from the Xanthous Pages & this clever and riveting FB page, of course. (ha!)

Arivaca Sonz Hardware doesn't have that longevity advantage yet. We need y'all to spread the word to everyone you know that there's a legitimate hardware store here in little Arivaca! Try them BEFORE you go to town, if you can.

We look forward to future advertising opportunities within Arivaca itself (did you know the Friends of the Arivaca Schoolhouse & Historic Townsite is starting a local radio station?!), but until we can widen our audience, please help us get the word out there!

*If you are visiting Arivaca this weekend for the Music Festival and you have never visited the Hardware store before, please take a few minutes to pop in and say hello! You will drive right past it on your way to the Schoolhouse.

*If you are local and haven't needed anything hardware-y in a while, please pop in and say hello! You may be surprised by how things have changed since you last visited.

*If you have a contractor, repair person, or handyman working at your home, please mention the Hardware store to them if they are from out-of-town... it may save them a trip and YOU money!

If you haven’t been in lately, you HAVE to see our new and improved HABA section - from cold and flu, to vitamins, to medical supplies, to travel-size and “handy” quick grabs, to locally curated health lotions and sprays, we have greatly expanded our health and beauty aisle products. We will work on filling the last few open spaces with name brands and the like.

Please, if you lost hope in our dwindling selection before, come back and give us a chance again! Damon, Conchita, and the team have worked very hard to get these new shelves up, organized, and filled.

For some time now, we have been toying with the idea of somehow creating a physical barrier between the retail floor and our backstock area; so many customers end up back there thinking it’s part of the sales floor, despite the signs we hung.

Steve Miller, Damon’s father-in-law, created an awesome saloon-style door for us! He based the bull on the “Arivaca Stop Sign” shirt we inherited from the previous Merc owners, and it looks fantastic. It should definitely catch the eye and keep people from wandering to the back.

!LOCAL LOCAL LOCAL!

We are pretty big proponents of shopping local (duh) and supporting local artisans. Let me share what we have in stock today:

We carry homemade soaps from Sheila as well as Goat Milk Soap from Whorled Leaf Nursery.

We have two different local catclaw honeys in stock right now.

We always have locally roasted Gadsden coffee on hand, whole beans and ground, in a variety of kinds.

Lonesome Oak Sanctuary supplies us with local eggs when the chickens cooperate.

Of course we sell Arivaca T-Shirts, the proceeds of which go back to the Community Center.

And NEW at the Merc is the salves and sprays from Our Healing Greenhouse, all locally crafted in Arivaca!

We hope you will check out these local offerings, to help support the people that live, create, & craft here and who make Arivaca the amazing place it is.

Our existing stock of HABA (health and beauty aisle) items are going up today, and we are super excited to see what space we have to bring in new stuff! This section and the spices are the two areas that have always frustrated us, knowing they could be better but being limited on layout. Finally we have the proper shelving up to make it great!

The spice and seasoning section has always been our arch nemesis. It’s starting to come together now!

Over the weekend, please ask an employee if you need something from the health/beauty section - they will get it for you out of the back. We won’t get to putting those products back up until Monday or Tuesday.
