Hello ladies and gents! Holy sugar, this rain and wind is something else. That small storm I mentioned is passing through. The winds picked up over night and it finally started drizzling pretty good about an hour ago.

It's a drizzle more than a heavy rain. Son of a bear, I just realized I started sounding like Forrest Gump when he describes the different types of rain. (Rain that came in sideways, rain that came straight up from underneath)....

Other than the rain there's nothing much to report. The roads are clear on SR85 and SR86. Traffic has been steady but nothing too crazy. Even though the border opened it still has been a little quiet around here. It'll pick up soon so we're staying positive about that. I know it's a little cold for some to be out in.

Ah! Before I forget. I just seen Ms. Shelley's comment about more donated dog food being dropped off tomorrow. When that comes in I'll post that.

Well, that's all I have for now. Be safe if you're traveling today. ☺️

It’s currently 44 degrees right now in the fabulous town of Why.

Don’t forget if you’re traveling today keep in mind we’re expecting rain this morning and into the afternoon. I don’t think we’ll get a lot of rain but Mother Nature can be unpredictable at times.

Safe travels!

Good morning ladies and gents near and far!! I hope my post finds you well.

Here it is folks! For those of you who've followed our page from the beginning know that ever year I put together a list of events that are coming up so that my staff and I can plan around them. So when we have our potlucks, meetings, and vacations we can better plan around these dates.

Usually I add NM and CO to the Spring Break list but I did not have room so I did not add them this time around. Why would I add them in the first place you ask? Well, because we get a lot of folks who come from from these states who drive down for their vacations/breaks during March and October.

Just like last year I know not all holidays will have extended hours at the POE. There were only four holidays that were listed last year and those were: Memorial Day, Fourth of July, Labor Day and Veteran's Day. There is a possibility these will be the same holiday weekends that will have extended hours. But this year Fourth of July lands on a Thursday so I'm not sure if they'll add that to the list or not. Once again, I'll share that info when I get it.

On the bottom of the photo I said I would share any events when they are put out there on social media. It also states on the bottom that some of these events are for Ajo, Why/Surrounding Areas/Puerto Peñasco, so please do not try to comment and message why is that event on my list when it is nowhere near them. I received a lot of that mess last year when I posted the list and it annoyed the sugar outta me.

These events I shared are more of a guide to us here at the store so we can plan around them. Last but not least I didn't post the dates for fall break because the schools didn't have that information out on their websites yet.

I wanted to share this with you, hopefully some of you can find it helpful, if not, then here it is anyway! Enjoy my list of events and please feel free to share. ☺️

Good morning friends! Happy Taco & Tequila Tuesday. I realized I haven't done a Motivation Monday for a while so I'll leave some words of wisdom towards the end of the post.

This morning the roads are cleared. There's no accidents/incidents to report. We still have less than 20 bags of donated dog food that will be to be transported down to Barb's Dog Rescue.

We are expecting a storm to roll through our area on Thursday. There's an 85% chance of rain so be careful if you plan to travel that day!

Okay, words of wisdom for a late Motivational Monday...

Someday everything will make perfect sense. So for now, laugh at the confusion, smile through the tears, and keep reminding yourself that everything happens for a reason. Most importantly, if a tortilla can rise up, so can you.

Now go slay the day, chin up! *fist bump*

This past Saturday there was another beautiful Arizona sunset that I just had to capture. I hope you're able to see it okay. I know it looks different on computer than it does a phone.

I took this one in Ajo between the Catholic and Federated Churches. I was facing towards the Curley School. The colors changed quickly but it was still so pretty!

I'm a sunset kind of person...☺️

Good morning ladies and gentlemen! Happy Margarita Monday! Or was it Moonshine Monday? Either way, Happy Monday. :D

Okay let's see here, what do we have lined up for you...

Well, the roadways this morning are cleared. There's no accidents or incidents to report on either SR85 and SR86. Everything is clear.

If you happen to come in this morning please pardon the mess but the staff is starting to take down the decorations inside the store.

There's still bags of donated dog food for Barb's Dog Rescue that need to be transported down. I've been getting messages from people who want to buy these for their own pets but we do not sell them. These bags of dog food are donated specifically with Barb's Dog Rescue in mind. We also heard people were taking it and selling it in either Sonoyta or RP for $28-$30 a bag. So once again to be clear the donations that we hold are specifically intended for BARB'S DOG RESCUE ONLY.

Let's see, what else, what else...hmm...I think that's all I have for you now. There's be little traffic this morning so the roads aren't busy at all. I think this weekend for sure traffic will pick up with the holiday weekend and the awesome fact that Roger Clyne will be down in Puerto Peñasco.

Anything else that is happening I'll be sure to post and let you know. Stay warm! :)

Good morning ladies and gents!

I hope you are bundled up out there cause it’s a chilly 36 degrees right now in Why. If you’re traveling on Sunday please be aware we have a 65% chance of rain starting tomorrow afternoon and possibly into the evening.

I checked the highways for ya and there are no accidents or incidents to report as of now. You’re all clear and good to go!

Don’t forget we have some bags of donated dog food that need to be transported to Barb’s Dog Rescue. There is a limit of 50 # per vehicle.

I am generally off weekends but I will be on and off today to keep you company or post of any important matters that come up.

With that said I’ll leave you with some words of encouragement…

Every morning you have a new opportunity to become a happier version of yourself. Chin up and slay the day! And remember, positivity ALWAYS wins.

The donated dog food for Barb's Dog Rescue has arrived! It is being unloaded as I type.

Please keep in mind there is a 50 # limit PER VEHICLE that is allowed to be transported across.

This donated dog food is specifically intended for Barb’s Dog Rescue only. If you have no intention of dropping it off at the rescue please do not take it.

01/05/2024

Well hello there!! And how are you all doing on this fabulous Friday?

Traffic has been coming in waves but it isn't as busy as it was yesterday. It's okay though because like I said yesterday it is busier than it had been the last month.

There is no more donated dog food for Barb's Dog Rescue. We received a message earlier that more will be coming in between 12:30-1p but it hasn't arrived yet. Once it does come in I'll post to let you know.

☺️

01/04/2024

We are down to one bag of donated dog food left!! If you're heading down this evening please consider taking the last bag of dog food and dropping it off at Barb's Dog Rescue.

Once this donated dog food is out I will post again to let you know. BIG thank you to those who took some down today. You're awesome sauce! 😁👍

01/04/2024

Good afternoon ladies and gents! Let me say it was so wonderful to see our customers again! There were a few cars parked out front when I arrived to work this morning and the customers mentioned how excited they are to be going down south again.

So far the traffic today has been coming in waves. It hasn't be overwhelming but definitely more than what we've had in the last month LOL! We had some familiar faces come in and gave me big hugs.

Most folks we've chatted with said they'll be coming down tomorrow so it'll for sure be a little bit busier.

Switching topics here. There are only 8 bags of donated dog food left for Barb's Dog Rescue. These are 33 # bags so you can only take one as there is a 50 # limit PER VEHICLE.

And just another FYI, SR85 is open! I'm still getting messages asking if it is closed because Google Maps says it's closed. Well with all due respect to Google Maps, it is wrong. Traffic has been flowing smoothly across the border with no issues.

At this moment there are no accidents or incidents to report on both SR85 and SR86. Safe travels folks! :D

01/04/2024

Heads up for folks traveling on SR86 there’s a rollover accident at MP97.

01/04/2024

🚗🚙🛻

I’m not sure where the message was posted first but SR85 is NOT closed.

I know some of you have been commenting and messaging about it so I just want to clear up the confusion.

The highway between Why and Lukeville has never been closed. It is open. ☺️

Good afternoon ladies and gents!

Tomorrow is the big day and as I mentioned we are super excited to see everyone again. This morning was spent prepping for tomorrow. We were kind of laughing because this was sudden and this whole past month we’ve been ordering the bare minimum of all supplies.

Regardless, we can’t wait to see you!

So just to quickly go over things with you. The border will reopen at 6am and I’m assuming the closing hours are still 8pm.

We have readjusted our store hours to return back to normal hours of 6am to 9pm. Our storage services have remained the same for gun, vehicle, and storage units.

We currently have 21 bags of donated dog food (38 # each) that need to be transported to Barb’s Dog Rescue. If you’re heading down tomorrow could you please take a bag of donated dog food with you to drop off please. I’d greatly appreciate it. Keep in mind you can take no more than 50 # per vehicle.

I’m guessing tomorrow will be a little busy with the reopening of the border so I shall keep you posted and update you all throughout the day.

Please stop in and say hello to us on your way down! ☺️

I’m getting tons of messages about the reopening of the Lukeville P.O.E. reopening on Thursday, January 4th.

Yes, we heard about it this morning but we were just waiting for the news outlets to break the news.

And what wonderful news it is! We missed you all and we are so excited to see everyone again! Now we’re holding all of you to your words when you said you’d come see us!!!!

So with that being said, the P.O.E. will open at 6am on Thursday, January 4th. I know it is going to most likely be busy so of course drive safely!

In honor of the joyous news, raise your shot glass or beer! Cheers!!!!! 🥃🍻

Good morning ladies and gents! Welcome to 2024.

I have returned from vacation and I am now back to my regularly scheduled shenanigans. I am slowly getting getting into my groove and I'll be up to speed once more.

I noticed we reached 16k followers the other day. That's not bad, we got 1k new followers within three months! Thank you gals and guys, I appreciate you all following along.

Also THANK YOU to Delores Quiroz, Dorothy Swope, Tim & Lil Breazeale, Kathy Willits, and Mike & Jeni O'Callaghan for the wonderful Christmas cards! I just checked the mail and seen the cards in our box. Much appreciated!!

Upon my return the staff has slowly started taking down the decorations and lights. I'm sad to see the stuff come down because you all didn't get a chance to see them in person but I am happy you got to see pictures. Our store was all dressed up and nowhere to go, so to speak.

I hope you all had a wonderful holiday season! ☺️☺️

New, for 2024 is our January Pet of the Month, Lily. Lily is a twelve year old cattle dog who was rescued from a back yard on Easter Day and thus named Lily (you know, like Easter Lily.) She loves walks, swimming and playing frisbee. According to her humans, she is very spoiled, but who can deny a beautiful face like that, I know I couldn't. She also likes coming down to The Why Not Travel Store to not only get her picture taken by one of our many murals, but probably for the rest areas for her and her humans and to also stock up on both human and canine treats.

At The Why Not Travel Store, we like fur babies like you stopping in because it gives our crew a chance to pet you. You have earned the honorary title of "The Why Not Travel Store's Pet of the Month" for which your parents will receive a $50 gift certificate to The Why Not Travel Store.

Happy New Year ladies and gents!!!!! Thank you for a wonderful 2023.Now let’s cheers to 2024! *raises shot glass*

The start of a new dream...

In 1991 our founder, Sandy Rogers, decided to head southwest from Omaha, Ne. with her young teenage son and purchased a store in Why, Az. The name of the store was the Why-Not Travel Store. The store sold propane, gas, food, refreshments, and nik-naks that were mostly locally produced. In the parking lot was a hot grill in the shape of a bull that was used to cook hamburgers and other items.

Over the years, she increased the size of the store, affiliated the fuel products with Texaco, installed storage units, added a restaurant (much to the detriment of the bull!) and increased the products the store could offer. Of course, as with any business, there were good times and bad. In the good times she reinvested into the store and gave back to the community, and in bad times Sandy, who was of Pennsylvania Dutch stock (re: a strong work ethic), persevered. She hired locally and several of her hires still work for us.

Sadly in 2013, Sandy unexpectedly passed away. Today the store is owned by her two sons, Allen and Cortney Wonder, and although she is missed, her legacy continues. At the time of this writing, "The Why Not Travel Store" is undergoing some major remodeling. The Deli area was increased in size and now offers a large selection of products and refreshments, a new walk-in cooler and freezer were added to increase the size of our cold and frozen offerings. The restaurant was sublet and eventually sold off to Granny's Kitchen. New bathrooms were added and the store outside/inside appearances have been enhanced. Why Not stop by?
