Sauvignon Blanc PICOL, Friuli Isonzo, DOC Lis Neris 2020. Pale golden yellow with highlights of green, a distinctive bouquet of gooseberry, sherbet and lemon rind. Brilliant lively acidity with underlying hints of some tropical fruits maybe pear. A wine of real class, and power, Sauvignon Blanc on full throttle with added length from lees ageing. Pair with care. Enjoy the ride. 🥂

Aglianico, Beneventano, Vesevo 2019. A smooth and complex Italian red from the volcanic hills of Campania east of Naples. 🍷 Aglianico is grown on poor volcanic soils which returns to the wine the richness of this earth preserving the fresh primary flavours. A small proportion is aged in American oak barriques adding some smoky, ripe black fruit flavours with a touch of cassis and herbs giving it a gently rounded structure. Very elegant and easy. Cheers 🍷🍷 A mushroom risotto perhaps, some grilled lamb or just on it own.

Brouilly by Chatelard, a flagship cru of the Beaujolais. A ruby red, fruit driven wine, plums, sometimes strawberry and other small red fruits with soft mellow tannins. A wonderful expression of Gamay with a gentle 13% abv. It serves well as an aperitif chilled to 16-17°c. Even a chicken salad. Go for it 🍷

Bourgrier, Chinon 2022 🍷 This range of limited cuvées from select terroirs are highly distinctive and particularly interesting. 100% Cabernet Franc, clean, fruity almost juicy, perfectly structured and gourmet. The fruit aromas are similar, ripe, red and black, refreshing and precise. Tannins support the well balanced body and will go as well with a salad, chicken, soft cheese, as a barbecue. 🍷 It's almost too easy to drink! Cheers. Enjoy.

Monte Bernardi Retromarcia Chianti Classico 2020 ——🍷 Intensely typical and expressive wine from Tuscany's historic Chianti Classico zone. 🍷 There’s a quiet natural charm and elegance captured perfectly by the viticulture at Monte Bernardi 🍷 A jewel, one of those wines you can drink with abandon, or quietly enjoy its subtle complexities. Sangiovese (100%) should never show up opaque, it is transparent and in a single sip, you can sense the place, the passion, the classic galestro/albarese (shale) soil, and of course the sun. Intelligent and delightful. Drinking wonderfully now and will evolve beautifully for another 6-8 years. Take your time we have it in magnums too. Cheers

A bottle of pure joy, refreshing fruity and elegant - grapes from high altitude vineyards giving an aromatic nose and an easy tannin structure. 🍷 It’s light to medium-bodied with just wonderful flavours. Oh by the way it’s 100%, organically farmed Sangiovese. A must try.

A Chilean marvel, with intense character 🇨🇱

Tabalí, Micas Carmenère 2017.

The distinguished Carmenère grape really shines in this complex wine. Cultivated in the temperate Cachapoal Valley, each glass delivers Carmenère's signature voluptuous, fruit-forward character.

Micas 2017 is a medium-full bodied delight, laden with spice 🌶 almost opulent.

On the nose, hints of cocoa complement the rich black fruit flavours. Smooth tannins and delicious acidity create a persistent and elegant finish.

Perfectly good on its own but its true depth and personality reveal with good foods and friends 🍷 enjoy.

It’s International Carmenère Day ✨

Every grape has a story and none embody this sentiment more than the illustrious Carmenère 🍇

A cousin of Merlot, Carmenère has become synonymous with Chilean wine, however, its roots can be traced across the Atlantic. An ancient grape, this vine was thought to be lost to the world - until its rediscovery in the late 90s.

Carmenère was originally introduced to Italy by the Romans, and eventually found its way to Bordeaux’s Left Bank. The vine grew temperamentally until the mid-1800s when the disastrous phylloxera aphid almost single-handedly ruined France’s wine industry.

In the wake of phylloxera’s decimation, growers grafted and replanted vines that were thought to have enduring qualities, and by the 20th century, Carmenère was thought to be lost to the world.

In the early 1990s, Chile entered the world’s wine market with a distinctly spicy Merlot. Contrary to what winemakers believed, 50% of what went into Chilean Merlot was not, as assumed, a Merlot clone, but Carmenère!

The earthy Carmenère is truly a wine like no other - medium-bodied with smoky, spicy aromas that tantalise the senses with each sip. A wine for the adventurous wine-lover interested in tasting living history.

For all you wine buffs the release of this unique wine - the fresh & fruity Beaujolais Nouveau is here!

One of the few wines allowed to be released so soon after harvest, the Beaujolais Nouveau has a remarkable short journey from grape to glass 🍷

This wine is meant to celebrate the end of a long harvest, but has evolved to be one of the most anticipated wine releases of the year.

Made from the Gamay grape and harvested by hand, the grapes undergo carbonic maceration, allowing the fruit flavours to explode and dominate this vibrant fruit laden wine.

Have you heard of wines made from old vines?

Today we’re highlighting two wines we stock made from old vines, both hailing from Calatayud, Spain 🇪🇸

Both are made under the expert direction of Norrel Robertson MW, also known as El Escocés Volante (Flying Scotsman).

Old Vines is a term without clearly-defined parameters, but is generally used to describe fruit-producing grape vines that are 50 years of age, or older.

As vines age, the quantity of fruit decreases, but the quality and resulting flavour is more concentrated. This is due partly to the thinning of the leafy canopies of older vines, allowing the grapes to soak in more sunlight ☀️ prior to harvest.

Wines made from older vines are characterised by soft, concentrated & intense fruit and sweet tannins; but with a long, persistent finish.

Treat yourself to these fleshy, ripe, yet aromatic wines from older Garnacha vines and some Syrah, with Papa Luna 2020 and Manga del Brujo 2020 🍇
