In Trinidad and Tobago, for the year 2024,
Sri Kāl Bhairav Jayanti
Starts on Friday 22nd November at 8:37 am
And Ends on Saturday 23rd November at 10:26 am
The festival is dedicated to Lord Kāl Bhairav, the fearsome form of Lord Shiva, who punished Lord Brahma for speaking untruth.
He is the protector of all Shiva Temples, all Devi temples and especially the 51 Shakti Peethas.
In Puja He is invited first to the altar of worship before any other devta, espec in the the worship of the Divine Mother Goddess.
In every auspicious undertaking he is venerated and propitiated as one of the Three Masters of land, wealth and assets, more commonly known as Dee Puja.
In that aspect, Lord Kāl Bhairav is the third and highest (senior) of the Three Masters, the other two being Sangani Dee Baba, and Sri Munesh Prem.
He is the ultimate punisher, as he is the controller of Time and all that time itself affects.
Although ferocious is nature and appearance, he is benevolent and calm to His devotees, revealing to them His loving, protective and caring form, who will ensure their constant safety and prosperity.
His worship begins with devotees having an early morning bath and performing simple Puja to Lord Shiva, Devi Durga and one’s ancestors.
Strict fast is observed all day. Primarily one should refrain from salt and any type of cooked food.
In the evening, his Puja is performed with all types of flowers, bael leaves, sandalwood paste, perfumed oils, fruits, sweets and vegetables.
His Murti is given Panch Amrit Abhishek (five nectar bath).
Going into the night, the Kathā of his appearance is read, his hymns are sung and his Arti is performed at Midnight with the accompaniment of bells, gongs, conch shells, and drums.
Garlands of bael leaves, madar flowers and limes are offered.
His vehicle is the dog, therefore on this day, dogs are bathed, given milk, food and treats.
The mantra for continuous repetition during his Puja is:
ऊँ ह्रीं बटुकाय आपदुद्धारणाय कुरु कुरु बटुकाय ह्रीं ऊँ स्वाहा।।
Om Hreem Batukāya Āpadūdh-darnāya Kuru Kuru Batukāya Hreem Om Swaha ||
