Fernández, upon finishing his professional engineering studies in France, returned to the Hacienda Santa Ana in Bayamón, Puerto Rico and developed a formula for a rum similar to the style of the French brandies and cognacs. y and guests. At the time, this rum was served directly from the barrel and thus his guests had affectionately named the rum "Ron del Barrilito" (Rum from the Barrel). Since 1880, the Fernández Family has used the same secret formula and aging process which creates a uniquely smooth and mellow rum that connoisseurs have come to love over generations.

All of our aging barrels are made from American white oak and were previously used to age Oloroso sherry in Spain’s Jerez region. That’s where our rum rests from start to finish. These barrels are a key part of our artisanal process, just as Don Pedro Fernández envisioned over 145 years ago.

The only source of water we use in our process is rain. A naturally rainy ecosystem around us gives us plenty of water to harvest and filter for purity. This practice has never changed since 1880, when Don Pedro Fernández began crafting Ron del Barrilito.
