This Saturday, October 30, let's embark on an exploration of artisanal beers made in Belgium and perfectly paired with Filipino fusion pica-pica !
This exceptional virtual tasting will be conducted by Jef Versele, Brewmaster and 6th generation family owner of Brouwerij Van Steenberge (established in 1874), and Chef Bettina Arguelles, Executive Chef of the Sofitel Philippine Plaza Manila.

5 awards for the Gulden Draak family in the 2021 🔥 We are proud to announce that our newest Gulden Draak, the Smoked, has won silver in his class. Likewise, our Imperial Stout accepted second place within the Imperial Stout division. In the Belgian Style strong beers, the Gulden Draak 9000 Quadruple received gold and the Classic bronze. Our Gulden Draak Brewmaster was also awarded with a bronze medal within the 'Wood Aged' category 🥇🥈🥉 Let us cheers to this 🍻

Augustinian Monks have been brewing Augustijn since 1295 at their Monastery in Ghent. In the Middle Ages, many priests and monks brewed and marketed their own beer. As the water was often contaminated, it was safer to drink beer because the water was boiled during the brewing process.

When the Augustinians started looking for a new brewing partner in 1987, Jozef Van Steenberge had already been experimenting a lot with top fermenting beers. Jozef won the competition organized by the Augustinians. This meant that the brewery gained access to the recipe of this historic monastery beer and the expertise of recipe administrator Janus Jeremanus. Janus was a consultant for the Van Steenberge Brewery for more than 25 years and introduced the original Augustinian yeast strains that we still use today.

Visionary Jozef Van Steenberge guaranteed the continued existence of the brewery in 1982 with the relaunch of Augustijn with secondary fermentation in the bottle. Jozef Van Steenberge was able to distinguish himself from the other pilsner brewers of that time thanks to the innovative character of the Augustijn beer.

Historic yeast strains give the beer its mild, smooth, but very rich flavor. The Van Steenberge brewery uses these strains as the basis of Augustijn and many of its other beers. If you drink Augustijn when it is young, you get to enjoy its fruity, hoppy flavor. If you let the monastery beer mature, you are transported back to taste the rich history in each glass. Fruity beer with respect for tradition.

Augustijn Blonde is flavorful full-bodied, fruity, hoppy amber blonde. It is mild and malty with a slight touch of vanilla and a finish that is slightly bitter and smooth.
