The SWS Awareness and Trust Ratings for the fourth quarter of 2024 have been released.

And guess who the biggest loser is?

Commissioned by Stratbase Consultancy, the survey was conducted from December 12 to December 18, 2024, with 2,160 respondents participating.

The following question was posed:

“Sa mga sumusunod, maari po bang sabihin ninyo kung ang pagtitiwala ninyo kay (Name) ay Napakalaki, Medyo malaki, Hindi tiyak kung malaki o maliit, Medyo maliit, Napakaliit, o wala pa kayong narinig o nabasa kahit na kailan tungkol kay (Name)?”

While both the president and vice president continue to experience a downward trend, they still maintain a “moderate” rating.

However, it is noteworthy that the ever-popular Vice President Sara Duterte has emerged as the biggest loser in this survey. She recorded a net trust rating of +23, reflecting a 6-point decline from her third-quarter rating of +29. Dissatisfaction is particularly evident in the vote-rich regions of Luzon and the National Capital Region (NCR), with only the Mindanaoans keeping her numbers afloat at an impressive +73.

President Marcos also experienced a decline, with his net trust rating dropping by 4 points to +29 from his previous rating of +33. Notably, he received a -9 net rating in Mindanao, which is traditionally a stronghold for Sara Duterte.

Both leaders are currently facing controversies, starting with the Office of the Vice President’s (OVP) budget cut for 2025 and the unexplained utilization of her Confidential Funds (CF), which has led to three impeachment complaints against her.

Meanwhile, the president is under scrutiny regarding the 2025 General Appropriations Act (GAA) allocations, particularly concerning PhilHealth and the Department of Education (DepEd), among other issues.

The survey was conducted through face-to-face interviews nationwide, with 1,080 respondents in Balance Luzon (outside Metro Manila) and 360 respondents each in Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.

The margin of error is ±2% for the national percentage, ±3% for Balance Luzon, and ±5% for each of Metro Manila, Visayas, and Mindanao.

BBM Administration: A Masterclass by the Numbers
CRIME INDEX

Assessing the Philippine Crime Situation under President Bongbong Marcos, Jr., based on the available data, the Philippine National Police (PNP) has reported a significant decrease in the overall crime rate from July 2022 to July 2024. This trend is attributed to several factors, including:

Intensified police operations:
Increased police presence and proactive law enforcement strategies have contributed to a reduction in crime.

Improved community policing:
Stronger partnerships between the police and the community have led to enhanced crime prevention and detection efforts.

Focused anti-crime campaigns:
Targeted campaigns against specific crimes, such as illegal drugs and organized crime, have yielded positive results.

However, it's important to note that while the overall trend is positive, certain crime categories may still pose challenges.

For instance, while there has been a decrease in index crimes, specific areas like cybercrime and domestic violence may require increased attention and specialized strategies

And while it is true that the overall crime rate decreased, issues of impunity remain a significant concern.

This dual reality underscores the complexity of the situation while efforts to reduce crime have shown measurable success, addressing systemic issues of impunity and human rights abuses continues to be a critical challenge.

Amid the ongoing buzz and drama in the political arena, controversies appear to surface almost daily, unfolding right before our eyes.

As we reach the halfway point of the Marcos Jr. administration, one must ask: Where is the Philippines headed at this juncture?

Let’s take a closer look at the data the Marcos Jr. administration has accumulated thus far.

Is the economic progress favorable or unfavorable? Do we still hold the title of the “Sick Man of Asia”?

It’s time to examine the evidence for yourself and draw your own conclusions.

BBM Administration: A Masterclass by the Numbers

Since President Ferdinand "Bongbong" Marcos Jr. (BBM) assumed office, his administration has focused on various economic and social reforms.

Here’s a summary of the key performance indicators and current measures as of 2024:

Economic Performance
1. GDP Growth
• The Philippines' GDP growth has shown resilience, with a notable % growth rate of 7.6% in 2022. However, the growth rate slowed to 4.3% in the second quarter of 2023, reflecting challenges such as high inflation and global economic uncertainties.

The GDP growth in 2024 shows a mixed performance, reflecting both challenges and areas of resilience:

Q1 2024: 5.7%
The first quarter of 2024 started strong with a 5.7% growth rate. This indicates a continuation of the recovery momentum from the previous year, driven by robust domestic consumption and government spending on infrastructure projects.

Q2 2024: 6.3%
This figure reflects a significant acceleration from the previous quarter and indicates a strong economic performance.

Q3 2024: 5.2%
This figure reflects the economic performance during that period, influenced by various factors such as weather disruptions and global economic conditions.

2. Inflation Rate
• Inflation has significantly decreased, dropping to 1.9% in September 2024. This is a result of various government interventions, including tariff cuts on rice imports and direct sales through Kadiwa stores.

3. Poverty Incidence
• Poverty incidence among families decreased to 16.4% in the first half of 2023. The administration aims to reduce this further to a single-digit level by 2028.

4. Unemployment Rate
• The unemployment rate has improved, dropping to 3.7% in September 2024.

5. Employment Rate
• The employment rate reached 95.9% in 2024, the highest in 18 years. This indicates a robust job market and effective employment policies.

To enhance its economic standing among its neighboring Southeast Asian countries, the Marcos administration has implemented several strategic measures:

1. Legislative Reforms
• The administration has prioritized passing key legislative measures, including the E-Government Act, Internet Transaction Act, and the National Government Rightsizing Program. These reforms aim to streamline government operations and boost digital transformation.

2. Infrastructure Development
• Significant investments in infrastructure are ongoing. The DOTr's budget for 2024 has been doubled to PHP 214.3 billion from PHP 106.0 billion in 2023. This substantial increase underscores the administration's commitment to improving the country's transportation infrastructure. Moreover, the National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) Board approved the addition of 23 new projects and the delisting of 36 projects from the IFP list, bringing the total to 185 projects valued at PHP 9.14 trillion. This rationalization ensures that high-impact projects receive the necessary support for efficient implementation.

The Marcos administration's infrastructure development efforts in 2024 reflect a strong commitment to enhancing the country's physical connectivity and economic resilience. With substantial investments and a strategic focus on high-impact projects, the administration aims to drive sustainable economic growth and improve the quality of life for its citizens.

3. Social Protection Programs
• Programs such as the Targeted Cash Transfer Program, fuel subsidies, and the Libreng Sakay Program have been implemented to support vulnerable populations and mitigate the impact of inflation.

4. Economic Diversification
• Efforts to diversify the economy include promoting sectors like agriculture, manufacturing, and technology.

The administration has also focused on enhancing foreign relations to attract more investments.

5. Fiscal Policies
• The administration aims to achieve a 3% National Government deficit-to-GDP ratio by 2028 and reduce the debt-to-GDP ratio to below 60% by 2025. These fiscal targets are designed to ensure sustainable economic growth.

Overall, the Marcos administration continues to navigate economic challenges while implementing policies to foster growth and stability, aiming to position the Philippines as a competitive player in the Southeast Asian region.
