Nakikiisa ang UPLB KAIBAN sa pakikibaka para sa mga kampanyang bitbit at dala ng UPLB February Fair 2025 PAGBIGWAS: Buong Giting na Paglaban ng Timog-Katagalugan Tungo sa Mabuting Pamamahala, Hustisyang Panlipunan, at Tunay na Demokrasya sa panawagang ipaglaban ang mga lupa ng mga katutubo.

Ang mga Katutubong Mamamayan ng Pilipinas ay may malalim na kaugnayan sa kanilang mga lupang ninuno. Ang kanilang mga karapatan sa lupa ay bahagi ng kanilang pagkakakilanlan, kultura, at pamumuhay. Sa harap ng patuloy na pag-agaw ng kanilang mga teritoryo para sa malalaking proyekto at komersyal na interes, isang Tunay na Reporma sa Lupa ang kailangan upang maprotektahan ang kanilang mga karapatan at mapanatili ang kanilang mga komunidad. Ang Tunay na Reporma sa Lupa ay hindi lamang para sa mga magsasaka ng mga pangunahing komunidad. Kasama dito ang pagpapalakas ng mga karapatan ng mga Katutubong Mamamayan sa kanilang mga Ancestral Domains at ang pagtiyak na hindi maaagaw ang kanilang mga lupaing ninuno para sa komersyal na layunin.

Sa ilalim ng Indigenous Peoples' Rights Act (IPRA), may karapatan ang mga katutubo sa kanilang mga lupaing ninuno at teritoryo, at ito ay nararapat lamang na igalang at ipaglaban sa pamamagitan ng Tunay na Reporma sa Lupa. Ang Free, Prior, and Informed Consent (FPIC) ay isang mekanismo na nagtitiyak na ang mga Katutubong Mamamayan ay may pahintulot bago isagawa ang anumang proyekto na magtatangkang gamitin o baguhin ang kanilang mga teritoryo. Dapat tiyakin na ang lahat ng proyektong komersyal o pambansa ay may pahintulot ng mga katutubo. Kasama ang pagbibigay-pansin sa kanilang pangangailangan sa edukasyon, kalusugan, at iba pang serbisyo ng gobyerno upang matugunan ang kanilang mga pangangailangan at mapanatili ang kanilang kultura. Ang malawakang pagka-kontrobersyal ng mga isyu ng pagmimina, logging, at mga malalaking proyekto sa mga lupaing katutubo ay isang malaking hamon.

Ang hatol sa Talaingod 18, kasama si ACT-Teachers party-list Rep. France Castro at dating Bayan Muna Rep. Satur Ocampo, ay sumasalamin sa mas malawak na sistematikong pagsisikap na patahimikin ang mga tagapagtanggol ng karapatang pantao at mga katutubong lider sa Pilipinas. Ipinapakita nito ang pangangailangang protektahan ang mga indibidwal laban sa pang-aabusong ligal at kriminalisasyon ng gawaing makatao. Mahalaga ang pagbibigay ng suporta sa pamamagitan ng pagpapalaganap ng kamalayan, paggamit ng social media, pakikipag-ugnayan sa mga lokal at internasyonal na organisasyon, at pakikilahok sa mga kilos protesta. Hinihikayat ang pandaigdigang komunidad, kabilang ang United Nations at UNICEF, na kondenahin at kumilos laban sa hindi makatarungang hatol na ito upang mapanatili ang hustisya at igalang ang mga karapatan ng mga Lumad.

Ang Tunay na Reporma sa Lupa ay hindi lamang tungkol sa mga magsasaka ng komunidad, kundi pati na rin sa mga Katutubong Mamamayan na may makulay na kasaysayan at may mga karapatang huwag gawing kumodidad ang kanilang lupa. Ipaglaban ang kanilang mga karapatan, at ipaglaban ang makatarungan at pantay na reporma sa lupa.
