We follow the @‌re_bolting association, which supports the sustainable maintenance of climbing routes in Switzerland. The members of the association give us insights into their work, and we meet Michel Piola and Daniel Anker, who developed the route "Le Chant du Cygne" on the north face of the Eiger in 1991.

from 🟠Petzl 🇫🇷: A legendary skier with an epic quest - meet

Born and raised in Chamonix, skiing at high altitudes in the Alps is who I am. It became my goal to ski every 4000-meter peak in the Alps, which led me to open two new routes on the Grandes Jorasses: Pointe Hélène and Pointe Croz. These summits are legendary in the world of alpinism, known for their impressive north face, where steep lines test even the sharpest crampons and ice tools.

On November 1, 2024, Boris Langenstein, Gilles Sierro, and I became the first to ski from these summits.

For the past five years, this quest to ski 4000-meter peaks has consumed my imagination. A 20-year journey, it was the ultimate objective for an “alpine climber on skis”, and easily the biggest adventure of my life.

Towards the end, the challenge was managing uncertainty: scouting routes, planning strategies, and choosing the right partners. A solo objective became a collective one, with each partner bringing something extra to the table.

Relatively accessible, these excursions were close to home and possible to complete in 2–3 days. Some could even be done in a single push. This was the case for the Jorasses, which required 3000 meters of elevation gain and 2.5 hours of carrying skis on our backs before putting them on our feet. Crossing paths with animals on our way down, it was a special and rare kind of skiing — the kind I love.
