The second event in the Artist in the Wine Bar series features artist Matt Griffin

Matt is a New Zealand-based realism artist whose work bridges the fine line between lifelike detail and soulful expression. From his Auckland studio, he brings people and animals to life on canvas, capturing not just their forms but their stories.

Each brushstroke reveals subtle textures and glimmers of light, drawing viewers into a quiet, intimate world within the frame. Known for his skillful technique and his eye for depth, Matt’s work invites a lingering gaze, where the familiar transforms into the profound, creating a visual dialogue that resonates long after the first impression.

If you are looking for Sauvignon Blanc with a difference, this is it. From a small vineyard in Marlborough, the fruit is wild fermented and spends some time in old French oak. It still has some of the green, grassy notes that you would expect from Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc but with a lovely, floral notes and much lower acidity. Definitely one to try even if you aren’t a huge Sauvignon Blanc fan. On the glass pour list this week - come in and give it a whirl!

In collaboration with The Flagstaff Gallery and as part of the fabulous First Thursdays initiative.

Tomorrow, Thursday 7th November, we will host Jenni Stringleman. Jenni’s vibrant and complex oil paintings portray an uplifting view of everyday life, elevating small details which the viewer can readily identify with. After the talk, don't miss the chance to visit Flagstaff Art Gallery, which will be open late.
