Life in the tunnelhouse sometimes reflects the reality of life. It goes ever so slowly with stirrings underground and out of the sight of everyone. On the outside watering continues to nutrients the soul out of sight something is stirring. There’s no cats sliming the slopes the sun and warmth are sporadic and you wonder is anything ever going grow the clitche saying a watched pot never boils well that apples to plants as well. Then all of a sudden it just happens not perfect due to the lady planter having a late start but enough to confirm that next year will be productive. See just like my life it’s all a bit tail and error just when I think nothings happening all of a sudden it is.

Life in the tunnel house is coming along its sooo hot in there which I forget when I head out to see what’s growing and then get distracted wedding, and half an out later parched and suffering from some kind of heat stroke I collapse on the couch. A very wise fry(in fact that lovely Chris Levitt who gave me the lettuce plants) said now Sandy NEVER GO IN THERE WITHOUT WATER TO DRINK, guess I didn’t listen oops. Well the real excitement is every damn thing is growing how ever long this weather continues will depend on how far things go, maybe every florist in town will have beautyCalla Lillie’s or maybe I’ll have tomatoes and cucumbers to give away maybe some amazing salads will be made maybe capsicum s will grow so long as the sunshine’s. Did you know cats can ski well interesting fact they bloody can and do they ski the slopes of the plastic on the tunnelhouse sometimes in an effort to slow their pace they appear to dig their claws in and rip holes on the slopes bloody cats. Never mind there’s a large roll of clear tape sold st Mitre 10 that is now creating a kalidascope of patches, and after visiting Dr google to seek clarity on making that ski field closed to cats I discover secret weapon number 1. It appears ski cats hate vegetable oil so out I go pour some down the slopes now there’s no more cats just bugs sticking to the oil and if talleys require a place to cook their chips the hot oil on the side of the tunnel house may do it. Well that’s the past week and there’s. Few pics just to prove things are growing see ya soon

Well it seems the weather is working in my favor coolish morning up early I understand any wise gardeners will scoff but hey as I said this years for fun next is serious. At 6am I planted Cala bulbs and while that’s ridiculous and the chance of flowering is a joke given how late it is it’s bloody exciting at the same time. It’s also far to late for tomatoes however scavenger me in the cheap bin atLushintons managed to secure two of the sickest looking tomatoes and see what happens along with two cucumbers and two capcicons some spinach and lettuces grown from seed by my friend Chris so it’s fair to say this years experiment is underway

Well its been a wee while and alot has occured since our first challenge to grow something. Recently on a much smaller scale I purchased a tunnel house to play in and getting it transported put up and shifted into position was no mean task. A week ago it was lifted nicely into position by several trops called in to help, then I had to go to the racecourse and get some of the free poo to get things nicely ready for planting that and a good load of mushroom compost and its now ready. Everything this year will be experimental and a new start and with this very unusal summer Im up for things not growing. I will keep you posted as to things that grow I have planted and I am late keep an eye out for a few pictures and hopsefully by next year I can bravely have things a little orrgainsed.

Everyday we will give an update on whats new and whats available but just to give you a peck today we were so excited it would be fair to say we nearly wet our pants as we discovered the first of the cala lilies n flower tomorrow Ill take a picture and show you. Along with that our lettuces are lovely our basil is smelling divine, coriander is growing, micorgreens, just breaking ground(to be fair Id never heard of those suckers before now, and they are divine, apparently you chuck a few on your pasta in your sandwich or salad or just munch on them), cucumbers and beans excited to say this evening we di our first harvest cumbers already a foot long, tomatoes, capsicums peppers and something called jalapeno, I understand theyre hot but Ill let you know in due times. We got so much more and will give you updates regularly. Well thats probably enough for one day except that in my lily excitement I crashed into a tree car is a bit dented but Im alive lucky for Anna hehe.

Welcome to our page come journey with us each day. Its a new venture and we are one young gardening girl and one old gardening girl, that are learning on the run. Anna is the young one shes a mum of two lovlies(Greta and Libby) and helps her husband Jon (who also helps us) to run their business Jackson Spreading (thats free advertising), And then there is me Sandy and you guessed it Im the old girl, I've got kids too but they're Annas age , and they are wonderful each and everyone of them, and I got two not so little ones, granddaughters, and they are gorgeous, I've got in laws and outlaws and we love them all. Weve been assisted by whanau planting lifting filling baskets cooking meals and many many other things that we cant think of right now. Well Anna and I have started this venture out of need hers and mine and I have to say there is nothing quite as rewarding as watching something grow and knowing you helped it from seed to its full potential and then to a plate or vase, or saucepan. We are experimenting this year and had somewhat of a late start but we are keen and hope that you'll enjoy some of our produce or maybe sample some of our pesto or even pop a flower or two in a vase. We hope over the next couple of years to learn something add something and grow lots so join us on our journey.
