🪑Many of you have asked about our vintage stools & stained glass windows, so here are some interesting factoids that you should know… The stools are named after Michael Thonet (1796-1871), a German-Austrian cabinet maker, known as the inventor of bentwood furniture. 🤙Nowadays, these Thonet stools are found in most every brown café across Amsterdam, + they’re super cozy, or gezellig, as they say in Dutch. We sourced the stools from all across the Netherlands (thanks Marktplaats), but you can also purchase them new from @thonet_official. FYI, the brand’s often mispronounced "tho-nay”. The proper pronunciation is "toe-net" with a hard beginning and ending t. 🪟The stained glass windows are of unknown origin, though they pre-date both world wars (pictures from the early 20th century show the windows in place). Speaking of history, our street dates back to the 17th century, though the current building most likely dates back to the 1800s, which is probably when the windows were installed. 👉Over the past 50 years or so, our shop was home to, amongst other things, a fruit seller (1950s), an ice cream shop/ factory (1980s), a jeweler (1990s), and a vintage clothing store (2010s). 👋Well, have a great day, hope you learned something new, and looking forward to seeing you at this evening’s “Song + Wine Night”!
