In the spotlight this weekend: Domaine Leon Barral
~
Didier Barral explained us (when we visited him a fee years ago) that by gaining experience in the vineyard and cellar he slowly arrived to using no additives
~
A bumpy ride indeed and we had some crazy bottles, but the last years have been very good indeed
~
The style of these Faugères wines fits the autumn weather perfectly
~
There are three red cuvées, the Faugères is aged in tank and the ‘Jadis’ and ‘Valinière’ are aged in oak barrels. All three wines are blends, mainly Grenache and Cinsault for the basic Faugères, more Syrah in Jadis and lots of old vine Mourvèdre in the Valinière
~

A part of our cellar is dedicated to our favorite Barolo producer Vietti. In the shop we have the basic wines from Vietti, Roero Arneis, Barbera d’Asti ‘Tre Vigne’, Nebbiolo ‘Perbacco’ and their tasty Barolo ‘Castiglione’, which is a blend of 20+ different parcels.
~
We hide all the Cru’s in our cellar, which you can check out during opening hours.
~
Vietti has Barolo Cru’s from several great vineyards such as Brunate, Rocche (Castiglione), Lazzarito and Ravera and the more recently acquired Cerequio and Monvigliero. Amazing wines with great aging capacity.
~
Btw… we also have some (rare) Magnums available from the amazing 2019 Vintage

Our pick of the week: the new wines from Jura from Domaine La Croisée Comtoise.
We love Jura and are so proud to have found this tiny, artisinal domaine in Poligny. Louis Bourdrel and Chloé Nardin made their first wines in the difficult 2021 Vintage. We tasted the 2022’s from barrel and loved them immediately.
And now they are available in our shop!
3 Chardonnays, a Pinot Noir, a Trousseau and a Crémant.

Matched with lovely food from chef Rogier Trip.

Two epic bottles ánd an epic Sunday lunch at Restaurant Tannay in Amsterdam.

Rioja Monte Real 1964, Bodegas Riojanas
1964 was a great vintage in Rioja ánd the birth year of colleague Michael de Rooij
What a pleasure to drink and enjoy a 60 year old bottle of wine that still kicks ass
~
Château Haut Brion 1966, Pessac Léognan
1966 Haut Brion was another epic bottle. Super refined, elegant with spiciness and a delicate, feminine structure. Grandeur you only find in the top Bordeaux wines
~
And the food? Amazing. Chef prepared some amazing dishes, based on classsic French cuisine. Coquilles Saint Jacques, partridge and an epic pithivier with wild duck. Foodies go and eat at Restaurant Tannay!

Our pick of the week: Domaine Lafarge

We just received the allocation of this family Domaine in Volnay. 2021 was a very tough Vintage with 80 % of the crop destroyed by frost. What was left is a tiny quantity, but the wines are very good, fresh and vibrant.
NB Volnay 1er Cru 5 Climats is a blend of all the Volnay 1er Cru’s…

We also have the 2022’s available from their bio dynamic Domaine in Beaujolais: Lafarge Vial in Fleurie. Very fine Gamay wines with backbone and suitable for aging.

Our pick for the weekend: Riesling Schieferterrassen 2021 from Heymann Löwenstein.

We simply love the wines of Sarah, Cornelia, Reinhard & team. This is how a natural wine should be: vineyards without chemicals, low intervention winemaking, resulting in a clean (sic), mineral driven, vibrant Riesling with lots of energy.
